If you haven't already, check out AK Interactive for oil-based weathering products - they've got loads of awesome effects.

Thank Luther. Yeah I've seen the new stuff AK has released. The only stuff I picked up are some pigments and their pigment fixer. The weather oils I'm not sold on yet as like many mini focused gear, they're overpriced compared to their normal art based supply counterparts. I ended up buying some basic W&N oils and oil thinner for my weather.

Illumini wrote:I have one of those in practically the same state as yours, undercoated for years, in the same colors even.

Here`s hoping I get inspired by watching you take that thing to awesome

Thanks. Hope you get started soon and post pics!

Small and quick update on the legs which I've been working on. I managed to spray a layer of acrylic gloss varnish over the panels after using sponge weathering for some chips. I then followed up with some W&N oils (black, brown, green) and streaked them with the thinner as well as pin washing using the oil mixture into the lines and around the rivets. Wished I tried this sooner with my tanks as I manually did all rivets before with normal paints and brush which took ages! Overall, it turned out not bad for my first experiment. Next step is to replicate the same on the top half of the titan and then figure out a good matte coat varnish to respray it with on my airbrush to seal everything in.

That's looking really good Egg. Man what a difference that weathering makes!

Thanks Gits.

Quick update again on the titan after a decent painting session today. Managed to do all the weathering on the top half and most of the interior. Also blocked out all the main metallics which will need to be shaded with an airbrush at a later time. Also still need to do the pilots, gunners and princeps:

Actually I just used blister foam to do the weathering. Worked out really nice and no additional cost added.

If only they still put foam in blisters.

I just opened some blisters old enough to still have foam in them!

I actually used foam from pick and pluck foam cases.

Huzzah! Now time to weather up some armour.

Airbrushed the metallics tonight with blue and black inks. The colour range unfortunately isn't captured completely with the iPhone 6 camera but this will have to do for now from the spray booth:

What type of paint are you airbrushing for those effects on the metals? Just diluted normal paint or something special?

Blue and then black ink. Straight from the bottle. I find ink better for shading metals since it has a sheen and is semi transparent.

Did not think about that option at all Thanks!

The titan is certainly coming along nicely. I echo the comments about the cockpit being particularly nice looking.

Another quick update. Finishing off the cockpit interior and crew:

Now I just have a few OSL details left and minor touchups and the body will be done! After this it'll be time to move onto the weapons.

Finished off the body today and I managed to get some good shots with my lightbox and actual camera which looks much better than my previous iphone pictures. I need to figure out how to take better pics with the phone.

Anyway, here are the pics:

Wow, you really knocked that one out in no time, Egg! Looks fantastic, in particular the gorgeous metals. Any chance we could get a shot of the back? Will be doing up a titan soon, and Im curious how you handled the giant areas of metal.

Weathering on the yellows is spectacular, too. Really adds to the character of the big guy

Beautiful work as always. Interesting that there are excape hatches above those two guys in the back. I'd always thought they were more-or-less permanently wired into the machine.

Thanks - sure, here's a shot of the back. Funny thing is it never occurred to me to take pictures of the back when I had the lightbox setup . Oh well, once I get the weapons done and setup again for the final shots I"ll get some from the back.

The back vents I drybrushed in boltgun and then shaded with the airbrush. Pretty fast and easy method I use on all my metallic areas.

Thanks Gits! Hatches are so they can get some air but yeah, they're wired in there permanently.

Outstanding!

I thought the hatches were there to insert/ replace.

Only thought.. doing a bit of OSL glow coming from the vents? Just a touch of your blue maybe?
