@Gitsplitta: You mean work intensive? If so - oh yes, definately. But I'm settling in my place as the guy who doesn't do the "efficient", fast and "clever" job but the individual job if that makes any sense. I think I could be one of the many new 'uns who get the latest GW plastic monster asap, do a quick (usually pretty good too) airbrush job that looks good in the pictures and sell them on ebay but that's not what I would enjoy. Things would become a grind completely and way too mechanical and reliant on materials and tricks.

@Dr H: Thanks very much. Guess I got lucky with that camo. Let's see how it works on the rest of the team!

@Nerdfest09: Ha, thank you! See, this is why the "going into/out of stealth mode" was not done on those. Glad people seem to like them.

So yeah, working on those Stealth Suits. Er. Update later.

That wasn't quite what I was getting at... but you gave such a good answer that I don't think it's worth clarifying. Your artistry and commitment comes through in every piece you do, and the fact that you work on such a broad variety of miniatures in a variety of scales and genres is a wonderful demonstration of your painting philosophy.

Oh, sorry, misread that then. If what you meant is that the scheme looks very "intense" as in "expressive"/"gaudy": I'm sure I waxed on about it many times. I think that camouflage on 28mm tabletop minis is a very interesting thing because you don't really want it to "work" as camo should because especially in 40k the minis should be visible on the table. So one has to hit the point at which the camo looks identifyable as camouflage without actually camouflaging the model on the table, between terrain and so on. Of course these modern sandy type camouflage patterns work really well with that. Urban camouflage does work well too whereas woodland camo is a bit harder to pull off I think because it often lacks this contrast.

Yeah, I'm a bit bored with painting so I get distracted with babbling about random bits.

Alrighty, keeping it short this time. Here are three more guys who aren't finished at all:

The guy in the left I converted a little to have him flying around, guy in the far right is the comms guy of the kill team, thus he's got a large antenna on his backpack.

See you tomorrow, I suppose!

@Yggdrasil: Thanks! Much to my shame I have to admit that my level of knowledge on the kill team rules is 4th edition rulebook.

New update!

really not so much new, but that's the full team now (sans gun drones of course).

Fly guy in the left was converted, second from the left is Comms guy, next to him is leader guy (with some additional thingies added to his jetpack and the encouraging fistpump/pointing fist, then we got assaulty guy and "other fusion gun guy" and "other burst cannon guy". All still very WIP of course. Bases I might have to redo a little.

@Gitsplitta: The goal was to make the guys rather individual looking which is quite a task with these models which all look exactly alike. I'll see that I can get some kill/squad markings on them as well to make them look a little different from one another. Aside from that I only really have the poses to work with. Both flying ones took quite a lot of repositioning of the legs.

I took the day off from painting Tau and did some painting on the third Soviet rifle section:

These of course are from Black Tree Design again. Really fun models and look at all those poses. As I said in my review, it's astounding how much variety they threw into their riflemen. Got a whole platoon and out of these 30 figures maybe three or four have the same poses. Good stuff.

Okay you lovely people. Not much painting was done over the weekend (at least not on the Tau but I got another Red Army rifle section almost finished). Today was filled with the joys of a dentist's appointment and some other things, so no painting so far. However, I redid my photo setup a little and took the opportunity to take a new WIP shot:

Hope you like it.

Also got a big box full of Tau and a smaller box full of Tau from Forgeworld so stay tuned if you enjoy the kill team so far!

@Solar_lion: Thanks!

@Cosmic: Thanks muchly. I don't do OSL very often because I think it usually requires more "mood" than a regular 28mm mini which is part of a larger group can deliver but on these I thought it was fitting just so there's a bit more colour on the otherwise pretty camo'd up models.

Just as a quick in-betweener, here's the latest Red Army rifle section I painted over the weekend and a picture of the full platoon (sans Lt.):

Hope that you like them. More Tau tomorrow.

I wish I was as good as you Siggy! the kill team look fantastic, I am now inspired to see what it's all about now! is it something from the rule book or a new thing from GW? I can remember the old kill team but didn't that sort of die out ages ago?

whatever the case, your work is brilliant as per usual and I'm totally looking forward to seeing you smash some Tau out of the park!

Any chance of a tutorial on how you completed your dark age village? My friend and I are just getting into SAGA and need terrain. Thank you in advance.

I’m sure glad GW is going to all plastic, so the ever-rising cost of white metal won’t impact the cost of their miniatures.

@Gitsplitta: Thanks very much on the comment on the ww2 dudes. It's probably one of my most midled projects given I don't have any tables remotely large enough to play anything 28mm scale on without cutting the ranges by a huge amount (i.e. Bolt Action style ranges) but in my christmas stupidity I just got so many of the buggers. The Warlord ones aren't even all that pretty. Black Tree Design's though (form where I got the soviets pictured above) - now those are fun.

@nerdfest09: Cheers but you know you are. GW actually redid the Kill Team rules a little and I think they put out a splat book with the rules (because they do love releasing little supplement books these days). Don't ask me why but there was always going something on with Kill Team and now of course people are more into it than ever it seems. I doubt that it's really "tournament fit" at this point even but it's probably good amounts of fun if played with the right people and mindset. (just like anything concerning 40k I think)

@Forlorn: I'm having a review of all kinds of MDF buildings in the making, amongst them a look at these buildings which will have some pointers on what I did beyond just gluing them together. Not quite sure when I will publish the reviews but it won't be long because I get quite a kick out of writing them. Stay tuned!

@Dysartes: It's very straightforward. Google for the camo pattern you want to recreate, take a look and you can see which colours go first and so on. Getting the scale right so it looks like camouflage but doesn't actually make the contures of the model blur is something that can't be written in a tutorial I think. It's more or less chaos and luck.

It wasn't about how smart or how good you were. It was chaos and luck, and anyone who thought different was a fool.

Hope you like the fellas. The Kill Team would have been finished sooner but I had to wait for the rest of the models to show up for the gun drones.

They look great, Sig.

Actually, while I'm here, do you do any shading on models like this (as you might if they were one colour)? If so, do you shade all the camo' stripes and chips, or just the base colour?

@Dr H: shading on camo is an interesting thing indeed. If the colours allow you can just give the whole part a little wash/filter. On my Haqqislam models I did the shading for each camo colour though.

Again, as usual more amazing work! the gently pulsating rail rifle reloading in contrast to the other one is just plain cool! :-) they all look amazing! Tau can actually look totally wicked!

Yeah Sig, your opinion on camo matches my own when it comes to 28mm. The lighter desert, urbans and theres quite a few WW2 German colors that work like Autumn Oak and Splinter that will look great on minis. Your own chocolate chip camo there is a great example. But the darker camos I have found do not work too well. I have pulled off BDU camo on imperial guard and they look great close up, but it kind of does its job at any distance and they look like dark green blobs. BDU is the only one I have even made to look decent. I tried a summer oak and a few custom darker schemes and they looked like crap. On a space marine it looks even weirder.

What's your base sand color on the models? Its too pale to be desert yellow I think.

Great looking models!

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!
