Hi!
Is there anywhere in the GTA that does 40k on Thursdays?

Also, are people in the GTA usually ok with old style Broadsides?

Wondering if I'll need to mod them up to be closer to the new models in profile.

I actually find it hilarious that you you bring up Yonge and lawrence in response to his post post; I've actually seen a player in a friendly game scolded by one of the staff there for having an old broadside (quite the coincidence I know) on one of the old small bases. I'm pretty sure their base size was increased and they want you to buy the new bigger bases for them. Anyways. Yonge and lawrence blows. Just sayin

I swung by there the other day and they seemed alright.
Besides, I can't find any where else that does 40k on Thursdays.

The store Meeplemart is reopening in a new location this weekend and some time after that their tables will be reopened for gaming.

They usually are open thursdays for free gaming. You will have to set up games ahead with someone else though.

I have been going to Yonge and Lawrence for years, I have never been given a problem there. Chris is the manager there, and I can guarantee he would not have given a crap about something like that. If it was one of the other people there, just tell them to leave you alone and bring it up with Chris. GWs for the most part are lame I agree but its a great place to play. I can come by with 1000 points of guard if you want to have a game. PM me!

Forum,

I had quite an opposite reaction from Chris (with the ear rings) from GW Yonge/Lawrence.

I have a few metal Necron warriors in my collection amongst several units of plastic ones, his words exactly words last Septmber were:

"Your old models are, hurting my eyes". -- Chris Slye

As a once loyal Games Workshop customer and even part-time summer employee since 2nd edition, I was so overwhelmingly offended that I have never returned to that store. The customer base there also came off as quite 'clique-ish' and hyper-competitive.

Fortunately for us in Toronto there are other great places like LegendsWarehouse / Sci-Fi World, Heroes World and soon Meeplemart (reopening), where I can't imagine hearing such offensive, elitist words uttered to their customer base.

Just my two $0.02.

That is his sense of humor, he made fun of your toys so you got butthurt and never went back and now trashtalk the store on a forum, good on you, way to better the hobby!

@Jae4x4:
Either way, it's how C'Tan honestly felt going into the store. If he had a bad experience, how does that impact the hobby by writing about a particular store/venue? Picking fights on a public online forum & insinuating a lack of maturity... the irony isn't lost.

Generally speaking, having been to almost all of the GW's/FLGS, most have decent terrain and are fairly welcoming. I haven't been to Yonge and Lawrence in awhile, but the terrain quality is what you expect from one of the larger GW's. Go with a friend and it's generally okay. You're also guaranteed to have players around, which is nice... the supposed "clique-ness" & "hyper-competitiveness" aside. The other venues suggested are fine too.

Yeah, I went to the GW yesterday, and didn't see any of the hyper competitiveness or clique-ness everyone is so down on.

Plus I think the fact they have a paint station so you can totally just hang out and do some hobby-ing before/after games is a nice touch.

I know Chris Slye when he worked in Mississauga and Oakville and he was always a cool dude. I also think he was just joking around around with you. However, it seems he misjudged his comments with you that day. Perhaps if you told him politely that you were offended by his comments he'd refrain from making further comments.

In the end, not going to a GW isn't the end of the world. There are plenty of good gaming venues in the GTA. Although based on my past experiences, arranging a game beforehand is the best way to guarantee games. I've walked into several FLGS' during scheduled gaming nights to find them empty.

Hello everyone.

Just joined DakkaDakka. You can consider me as someone "new" to the gaming aspect of the hobby and 6th edition 40k. I started taking an interest in GW miniatures back in 2010 and have been on and off painting miniatures and I never really got into seriously playing the game.

About a year ago I chose CSM Death Guard as a my first real and dedicated army to paint and play, but I've been too busy to finish painting them. It's been a very slow but gradual process and I would like to try them out in a real game possibly to help motivate me into getting them done. During that time. I also made myself a complete but shabby homemade modular board and I have some finished terrain from Pegasus Hobbies to go with it.

The gaming stores I've visited were the old Cross Swords, Dueling Grounds and Heavy Support Games. I haven't been to any of the other places mentioned due to the distance but I may be able to visit other stores around the GTA.

I've never actually been able to play a "real game" of 40k and I would like someone here to show me the ropes if you don't mind playing against unpainted armies. I have around 2500 points of both Chaos Space Marines and Daemons with another 500 still being assembled. Other than that I have a planned but not yet started possible Adepta Sororitas (Sisters of Battle) or Female Space Marine Chapter (Non-GW models) army I would like to get done as well.

Welcome to the forum, and the gaming side of the hobby. You will find that this is a great way to set up games and meet players in the Toronto area, and I doubt most people you meet will have a problem playing against unpainted models or new players. For the most part I play at legends warehouse which is located in Vaughan and am always happy to help new players learn the ropes if that interests you.

On a side note, anyone looking for some games this sunday? Looking to play at legends around 11/11:30, let me know.

I would like to play a game or two with you guys but unfortunately with my current transportation circumstances (TTC/Subway), the Legends Warehouse and Hero's World is just too far away. Possibly in the future I may be able to make it up there.

The farthest store I could reach would either be the GW store at Yonge/Lawrence or perhaps the Friendly Troll store near North York Station (I'm not sure if they allow or have the adequate space to play since I've never been there before).

I'm not sure what the GW store policy here in Toronto is for unpainted models and Forge World models. A significant portion of my Death Guard is is comprised of Forge World parts (just for visual fluff) and I do have one or two out of date models. Judging by some of the opinions/comments it seems the GW store may not be the best place to visit, considering I have a preference for Non-GW and unofficial models. I'll also admit I don't possess a physical and legitimate copy of the 6th edition rulebook.

Currently this month I'll be free on Fridays or the weekend and can make it Thursdays in the evening.

Hey everybody, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a Chaos Aegis Defence Line - they seem impossible to find online, and I was hoping someone had spotted a box in the Newmarket/Toronto area? Thanks!

I'm not afraid of converting an imperial Guard version, but would like to save some time.

Also, I'm about to have a 1000 point Chaos army, and will be moving to the Dupont Station area in May. I have a friend re-vamping his Space Wolves army after years of neglect, and am looking forward to finding more 40k allies opponents downtown. Cheers!

Have you checked out Meeple Mart? They just opened at a new location down at Spadina and Dundas, so it's pretty TTC accessible.

As for GW at Yonge and Lawrence, I'm not sure it deserves the hatred it gets. I was actually pretty weary about going there as I remember their store at the Easton Centre way back in the day, and they where pushy, didn't let you play with in-painted/un based models, had small tables, and where not a fan of you using them for long.

This GW on the other hand is pretty great. I've been there a couple times now, and so far it's pretty great. They have a lot of gaming tables and terrain, and the painting station at the front of the store is a great place to hang out and get painting tips from other hobbyist.

Anyhow, you will need a copy of the rule book in order to play there, and while they do allow FW, I donno about other minis.

Also also, Meeple Mart carries things like Kromelech in blister packs, so it's super convenient to get a really good feel for what those bits are like as far as size and detail go.

Also, GW seems to be the only place with a specific Warhammer 40k night on Thursdays.

That was probably Dan, luckily he is long gone, Curtis, Chris and Brandon are good guys though, Dan was a company zealot with tons of sand in his lady bits. And they are fine with whatever models you bring as long as its GW.

Besides that, Astronomi-con is coming up and wouldn't mind getting some practice games in so a few friends and myself will be there Saturday and sunday with astro missions.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!
