Yep, and the international situation has not changed that much in the last 12 months, either.
Wayland's RoW pipedream is yet to materialise.
Maelstrom went down.
GW still think we'll pay THAT much for their stuff here, and for some reason, the "GW hobby" (being held down and letting a redshirt have their way ... with your wallet) is still gaining new recruits.

You're right. Not much has changed. We can still buy from the US freely. We can still go to places like Dicebucket and DGS and Battlefront and numerous other places. And you're still mad if you're buying locally.

Mate. I don't even buy GW, anymore. So much more out there. Playing GW's game is like tucking into a whopper at a degustation menu.

If you are looking for an alternative though, the other one I have heard good things about is:
http://www.milsims.com.au/catalog/1648
I haven't purchased from them myself but have seen feedback from people who have. If anyone has had a bad experience let me know as I'm looking at possible getting some Woodland Scenics stuff from them in the future.
I've been getting stuff from Milsims on and off for about 10 years. They're okay.. not great, but not the worst. But I'd honestly go and get my GW stuff from somewhere else, because they don't keep a great range in stock and they dont offer the same discounts as other retailers.
If you need historical wargaming stuff, or board games, or that sorta thing? Go to Milsims. Other stuff? Shop around.
I'd buy from Milsims if they weren't so surly/rude on the phone. I dunno who it is that seems to answer the phone most of the time, but he really seems like he doesn't give a crap. There was one guy there who was very nice, useful and friendly. Shame I'm not sure what his name was.
Result - I buy from Milsims only when there's no other option (and usually there is)...

Milsims is good for cases and foam, they have a really good selection of custom options. Around $15-$20 for a tray, but it's been a while since I went there for anything.
I bought heaps from DGS and they didn't send me 2 SW battleforces and 2 CCW termies, cost me over $250 and I got nothing!!! Been contacting them for months, never return emails. They claimed they had already sent it and it must have got lost, plus they send everything as sprues without instructions and stuff. Over it...
Yeah, I got the SM megaforce for $250 plus $15 delivery compared to $400 retail. Its a pretty good deal for what you get.
Oz retailers are lifting their game and putting GW's out of business - GOOD

Combat company is excellent. Good prices, outstanding service, great support to tournaments. Order from him and get it at Lords, Clash watever and you get a further discount. Guy has goodwill for a reason.
I like Chapterhouse Studios for bits too.
Otherwise you can find some great deals in swapshop here.

I bought a bunch of stuff from Bitz Barn. It wasn't free shipping, but it was still a hell of a lot cheaper than Oz. Bitz Barn is a few bucks cheaper than the US retail price, which brings them down to almost half the Australian prices.
Only negatives, they took a while to process and ship (from placing my order to getting the models, it was about 3 weeks). I also question the quality of their packaging, all my stuff got to me fine, but they weren't packed in a rigid container, so if someone put something heavy on top of them I'd worry about the models getting damaged. However, I will say I had no such problems, so maybe I'm just paranoid.
I bought 2 dozen hormagaunts, a Thunderwolves set and a Fenrisian wolves set and even with shipping it was a great deal compared to buying in Oz.

Lately I've been buying from http://www.bunkergames.net, 25% off the retail price, free postage in Victoria and a good loyalty system. They offer a $50 voucher once you spend $500 (cumulatively) or something, so I guess if you spend enough that's kind of like ~34% off? Sort of what you'd pay from the US but with shorter delivery times.
I used to get stuff from Milsims, but they are slightly more expensive and don't carry as much stock as they used to.
I also in the past bought armies from Cipher Games in the US, worked out to about 35% off our prices but I just got sick of having to wait for a month and the extra currency surcharge of a couple percent.

I'm based in NZ so I'll probably be checking a lot of these sites out and hoping and praying they ship to here too.
Used Dicebucket before, good range if you just need troops fast since they don't do special characters. I thought they were good prices but I may just not know any better . Ordered and had it at my door by the end of the next week and let me remind you I'm in NZ and this is an American company. I'd buy from them again but I think they changed their shipping costs as it's something like $25 minimum shipping for under $100 but then it's like $55 for orders around $200??
I might be missing something but I'd rather save that five bucks and just make two orders. But I'll be checking these other sites out first.
*EDIT*: Still seems like Dicebucket is the cheaper way to go. May not offer the same amount of stuff since they don't do HQ's but it still seems to be the more viable option.

Yeah I did, but they sent me an invoice and paypal won't protect you for that. I keep contacting them though. I figure if I make the guy do hours of work answering my emails they will have to pay that much anyway.
I checked out Combat company's website, they do a lot of sponsorships of tournaments which is good.
You should check out http://www.tabletopminiaturesaustralia.com they have character models and lots of stuff like bitz and finecast. I got 40% off a few tanks which is pretty good, no catches like spend this much and get free post or anything just a good discount.
I like dicebucket too. I had an order with them and 2 sentinels were missing their missile launchers, I didn't really need them but they sent them to me any way, and another time they forgot to send me an ork truck, but then they sent it to me so it was all good.
Pays to shop around and see what the best deal is for you.
Edit: Couldn't figure out how to do the link

Yeah Dicebucket just seems to be the way to go in terms of shipping and price. That's the only complaint I've heard about them is that occasionally they forget to send stuff but they always send it immediately so I can't find to much to complain about in that. Nobody's perfect, right? Not to mention their customer service is good too.
Just checked out another site Ozhammer, wide variety, emailed a few questions last night and just woke up to a personally written response email, mentioned I played SW and the guy that wrote me joked that he wasn't sure they wanted me as a customer if that was the case lol. The only downfall is that they go by the British pound so it still costs just as much as it would to go to a GW store.

Again - why don't you just have a gamer in the US buy the stuff for you? GW can't stop it, and it would have to be a substantial savings.

"Custom" - that was the word, send you an invoice, take your money and send you nothing!
They're the same guys as DGS
I get the same prices as US plus it ships quicker, no customs, paypal protection here
Worked out links - sweet :-)
