In your thread, trolling.

I like any base, as long as the unit has some sort of theme that stretches across all of them.

I miss the old square WHFB square bases. Great for rank and file

Circular, uses less room on the tabletop. It allows models to be placed more snug against cover/ inside structures.

Standard circular ones just because you can make your own name labels on them, use rolling pins etc.

Aesthetically speaking, the elevated GW bases tend to complement the model more. They also make the model easier to grip, and so my vote went with them.

I have experienced using "flat" bases, but they make it more difficult to hold the miniature (I prefer holding the base instead of the model).

I'm right between lipped and circular standard.

Lipped can better protect the models if they're in melee combat/base contact. If speaking of lipped bases I like the relief ones the most, as you can fill them with greenstuff and carefully press in a stone structure in it with an actual stone from outside... Quick and easy scenery bases.

Circular Standard are more subtile and can blend in with the terrain.

I like lipped slightly more, but I'm more used to standard round bases. So it's also a kind of emotional decision.

But if standard round than the actual GW ones or special scenery bases made of resin. I don't like the cheap feel of Infinity bases... I cannot square with my conscience to put those super awesome minis onto their cheap plastic chips they're delivered with.

Round ones for small units/units that won't stand up nicely. No bases for the big guys that do stand freely (e.g. Exocrine & Carnifex)

Should the poll cover the difference between beveled and non-beveled bases?

Strong preference for GW round bases. They dont warp easily thanks to the lip, and with the bottom being hollow they are much easier to place on top of uneven surfaces (terrain pieces). Rebasing these is also a breeze as you can just cut the lip off with pliers and glue onto a new base.

There's only one way to paint the rims IMO - metallics. Preferably dark metal shades. Anything else looks funny.

Depends on the game. For games set in a world with technology at a level before 1900, such as most historical wargames set in that period and WHFB, then I prefer square bases. If it has technology set after 1900 (including the far flung future), such as bolt action and 40k, then I prefer round bases. The exception is if it on a smaller scale, such as flames of war or epic 40k, than square or rectangular bases with multiple soldiers on them is ideal.

The vast majority of my bases are the 40K style, but I really do like the look of the Warmachine ones.

Circular but flat as possible, like Bolt Action figures. I don't like models having base when it's not necessary, as in when a model can safely stand on its own or vehicles.

While there is no real significant difference between beveled bases and lipped bases, I have to say, i like the lipped ones more. I can't explain why! I just think they're neat.

I like the circular standard, however, I really like the ones made of thin clear plastic so that you can see what's below them, like they are actually standing on the terrain.

Scenic basis are great and all for displays and dioramas, but nothing takes me out of a game more that seeing units with badass lava bases running around in a jungle or cityscape, ect...

Like how Mantic bases can be flipped over and a magnet inserted in the bottom. Really convenient!

My preferred bases are the reversible ones from Reaper Minaitures.

You can use them basically like 40k bases, but the sides are straight so you can flip them over if you've got a basing concept that needs a little depth.

For skirmish and sci-fi I generally like the standard 25mm wide, 3mm tall, slightly beveled edge round base. Whether, flat topped, or slotta, it's a size that just works well for most 28mm figures.

For ranked games, it's squares of various types, but I still stick to the 3mm height.

Interestingly, the interior flat recess of a standard warmachine 30mm round edged base has exactly the same 23mm basing area as the top of a standard 25mm GW style slotta..

For my single-based models, I prefer to go with a round base for ease of positioning, 25mm for infantry, this will mostly be for scifi or skirmish games. With historical and fantasy games involving formations, or miniatures smaller than 28mm though, I'll multi-base on square/rectangular bases using 20mm increments.

I like my square bases but mostly for anything fantasy. Dunno why it just feels right to me. This is followed by hex bases and then round bases after.
