I am not sure if this news saddens me or not; tbh... was this game EVER going to compete with WoW or SWTOR?

It could still be good!

Obviously my condolences go out to the lay-offs though :(

EDIT:

The official site still refers to it as 'Dark Millenium Online', though.

I doubt it. If that were the case, Space Marine would not have been such a horrible failure. The honest truth is that just because you enjoy the hobby, does not automatically mean you're going to play any 40k video game. Additionally...look at the fanbase for Star Wars. By far, the SW fan base is many, many times larger than the 40k fanbase, and SWTOR only has about 1M subscribers now, and it's not looking all that great for much of an increase.

The fact of the matter is, as long as WoW exists, most MMOs don't stand much of a chance to be more than a passing thought of a game, here one day, gone six months later...

Space Marine was a failure? Why is it getting a sequel?

Warhammer fans are adequate for keeping splayer game afloat; look at DoW... it's pretty much THQ's only profitable series

Where was WoW bare months after its release? WoW has had a good eight years... I think SWTOR's done pretty well. The problem is how much money was sunk into it; they took one helluva risk and we don't know if it will pay off for them yet.

I agree with everything, except space marine was not a failure. I know a lot of people who play and enjoy it.

Space Marine a failure? News to me. Epic Success, probably not.But I know that there are people who got into the hobby because of the game. It was interesting listening to people talk about getting into the fluff and hobby while playing or waiting on matches to start.

It also means we can actually play it in a year since there won't be a fickle online community going to the next big MMO. I'll be set for MMOs with Planetside 2, and I get a (hopefully decent) single player 40k RPG out of it. Win/win if you ask me.

I can not wait for Planetside 2, It is going to be even better than the first one, which was awesome!

As far as Dark Millenium goes, I would be surprised if it was even released.

I think they are going to scrap it.

Still disappointing that with such amazing fluff, and a great community supporting the IP. That THQ couldn't just nut up for once and put out a decent project. I mean it's damn good that it didn't become an mmo because i have too much respect for 40k to watch it become another linear factioned waste land. But at the same time if this game ends up like dark siders we still lose at the end of the day...

This.

This This This This

I admit I was very happy and satisfied with C&C3 as a whole and Generals was pretty nice in it's own right. But RA3, C&C4 were so disappointing and then ditching the Tiberium FPS?!!!?!?! That looked like it was going to be amazing! WTH EA!!!! If EA gets it... please give it the C&C3 or Generals treatment... please?

I thought RA 3 was awesome, and I've played every CC from Tiberium Dawn to RA3.....

That's your opinion and I respect that (especially as you are also another fellow C&C player who has played all/most of the C&C's). However, I know I speak for a great many players that were disappointed in RA3.

Red Alert 3 was funny as hell...but I never took it seriously - especially since it was a foregone conclusion that the Allies would have the canon ending. Uprising though, seeing as the Imperial ending is supposed to be canon, and the theme became darker than the previous game, now we're talking.

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

Yeah.. as far as the RA series was concerned... it was all ridiculous, which was the point. I think EA did a fine job making it both fun to play (the graphics were awesome for RA) and even the addition of futuretech (or whatever the allied corp is) was actually cool- though I never mastered the challenges-I'm not insanely good at the game.

Sorry to disappoint you, but the game seems to imply the Imperial ending as canon...
