I've heard talk of a potential new starter set (not Achtung!), which would include plastics and focus on Late War. Possibly including 101st, with plastic infantry. I have searched the FOW website, but have found nothing. Can someone tell me where they heard about this? WWPD webcast? When will it be released? Thanks - Mez

A few rumors here and there, mainly from the boys at WWPD. The talk is that the plastic infantry is based on the existing metals and will be indistinguishable from them once painted. Apparently the forces in boxed set will be US Airborne and German Panzer Grenadiers with plastic vehicles included, but so-far it’s unclear if these will be any different to those in the Achtung set.
There is also talk of a plastic V2 rocket, which I assume will be some sort of objective.
I’m curious about the infantry because sofar I’ve been unimpressed with the attempts at plastic infantry from PSC and WF. They just seem a bit stick thin with static poses. I realise that they are more correct anatomically, but I like the more dynamic nature of the infantry from Battlefront and Forged in Battle. FIB in particular are my favorite producers of 15mm WW2 infantry atm and are much cheaper than BF.

If this helps.
Mini rule book, 150 or so infantry, 6 tanks, one Gun, and a V1 "Objective" I think October is the planned release date I heard on that interview.

I am very much looking forward to this set. I will use the Germans to supplement my Panzerkompanie, and the set as a whole will be good for demoing FoW when I start a gaming club at my college.

Wow!
Fair play to Battlefront, those really do look impressive.
Any word on the Vehicles to be included, is it just the Same M4A1's and Stugs from the current set? I hope they drop some new ones on us.

From the rumors i have gotten,Stugs and Fireflys are in. Automatically Appended Next Post: Here you go a nice copy paste for you.
The set will include 2 platoons of Grenadiers with HQ, several Stugs, several AT guns and the V-1 objective for the Germans and 2 platoons of British Shermans with Fireflys and HQ (10 tanks total) and a platoon of US Paras. He didn't have any information on pricing or if/when they will be released outside of the Open Fire set.

So American Paratroopers with British Armour? Interesting. Sounds like the set is based on Market Garden, I can't think of any other time they would have fought side by side. I've already got a number of PSC M4A4's and Fireflys and more Germans than I know what to do with, but I'll almost certainly pick this up regardless. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, Market Garden sounds like the thing. V-1 Rockets were fired primarily from the Netherlands and Belgium. US Paratroopers and Firefly's are in the current Market Garden book.
I may have to scrounge some money up for this eventually.

Vehicles look average, but the infantry models are very nice for 15mm. Some really nice poses, though I do wonder if having lots of 'unique' poses in a unit may make it look odd? That said, I think they look very nice.
As for the V1... Very silly.

Well I must say those infantry look very tasty indeed, hard to believe they are plastic. The vehicles look pretty good, nothing amazing but certainly just as good as anything PSC have brought out.
I’m intrigued at the hint that there is more plastic infantry to follow.

Do you think the plastic infantry will look out of place with the older metal ones? I'm going on the head size on this one.

To me those German plastics look to be far more proportioned than most of Battlefront recent metals. I'm interested in seeing them side by side.
I don’t think there are any 15mm WW2 figures out there that have gotten human anatomy completely accurate yet. PSC are certainly better than Battlefront in this regard but I find their infantry to be rather lifeless. The more cartoony heroic figs scales made by Battlefront or Forged in Battle may have OTT proportions, but their figures are far more animated and in that regard I consider them to be the more realistic.

It's an objective/terrain piece. The vehicles (apart from the firefly) are the same ones from Achtung! so they're not terribly exciting.
Since I'm not a fan of plastic 15mm infantry nor these particular vehicles I think that' I'll give this a miss. I'll look out for the V1 turning up on eBay though.

Hmmm tempting. I was going to start collecting an Allied force when BF started releasing their new Market Garden content. This might be exactly what I need.
The Sherman/Firefly alone looks great value for money but to be honest I may just get the platoon box as I'm more interested in the individual sculpts. Although the stowage on the sprue should make it easy to customise these new ones.

http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/flames-of-war/open-fire/prod_17774.html
I've already got the V3 rulebook but I intend to pick a copy up anyway. The Germans alone would cost more than £45 in metal/resin.
