Thank you. I enjoyed making the Avenger and do hope they come out with one. Its maiden flight was on Sunday and it worked well. It is what I would call a support fighter. The beam weapon was able to put the breaks on the a-wing by slowing it down on the action phase and then the ties could pounce. The imperials lost the game because of a poor choice of targeting on the last round and the Avenger was finished off by a Y-wing. With how the Avenger is set up it was really balanced for campaign play since only one is allowed and if destroyed that is it, one and done.

All I have to say is that the Y-wing is still my favorite fighter in the game. Its Ion Turret has won me so many games that I will not field a force without one. Ran a Y-wing wagon train circle the other day where three y-wing fly in a circle all game and an a-wing darting around. The imperials were trying to break the formation but the staggered formation allowed there to always be an ion turret to be able to brought to bare. As ties were ion'd the a-wing would zoom in and pounce and then dart away.

I never thought to do a 'wheel of death', but it totally makes sense from a dogfight sense of view.

I didn't think it would work but it did. I was dumbfounded.

The Y-Wings would move in 3 rings all in white turns. The first as tight as possible, second alittle looser with more shallow turns a bit behind the first and the third following alittle bit farther out and a bit behind the second. This allowed them to cover to most amount of area with the turrets. When the TIEs closed in the A-Wing flying as Ty would pick on one to attempt to draw fire or damage/destroy a tie with cluster missiles.

If the TIEs are closing in the rear of the Y's and the A-Wing is out of possition the Y's would slow down to 1 stright which is pretty much hitting the breaks. The TIEs would either bump the Y's or over shoot them. Either way it would limit their targets to 1 Y each and the Ys would have them due to the 360.

The next turn the Ys would move stright ahead 1 or start their circle again while the TIEs would have to make hard turns breaking formation or doing loops which causes stress and no actions. If they are hit with Ions the previous turn then they are easy prey for the Ys as they start their circle again. The A-Wing should be back into posistion to cut through the TIE formation picking off the wounded TIEs.

It worked great and only lost one Y to lucky dice rolling on the part of the Imps and Marksmenship. The 1 point R2 unit that allows 1 & 2 moves to be green allows a Y to shift spots in the formation to give cover for damaged ships and still be able to get back into tight formation next turn.

I know I could read the whole thread, but...has anyone else found the imperials to be the better group? We've played kill teams twice, once with the big ships, once without, and the empire has won twice with minimal casualties. And we've switched around the players, I took Rebs first, then Imps second. Just a curiosity.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Just a few pages back, there was a player who said rebels always win in his group. YMMV. I've only played with rebels so I won't offer an opinion.

I really find it is the player that can break the other person's formations first is the one that wins. If you are able to seperate fighters from the pack or cause them to make hard red turns and scatter you have the int which is hard to take away.

I've been getting into this game lately... hmm... what did I do this afternoon again?

Nice thanks for the two pics. Will definitely try to make a board out of the death star one.

We are just dipping into the game and i didnt see so much immediate interest in a game for a long time in our club. Everyone was immediately hooked when we played our first few games with the starter box.

Problem is that everything except the starter box, slave1 and the falcon seems to be sold out EVERYWHERE until end of the year . People on ebay pay crazy prices for the small expansions. So i expect to see double falcons more frequent than it should be .

The Death Star texture I got from a link on Boardgame geeks, there is a name but I don't have the source file with me at the moment... the rest, including the rebel and imperial boarders and texturing are completely me. Central area is 3X3' with a 5 inch border around on the starfield, the deathstar one is 36"X46" with a 7 inch trench.

Its taken me three months and I have lost track on how much but I have a pretty big X-wing set. I let my friends play the many fighters I have. It was a pain in the butt getting the stuff but I am pretty much caught up. Here is my collection so far:

Rebels -
6 X-wings
3 Y-wings
3 A-Wings
3 YT1300
1 Blockade Runner Covette (Kenner 1998)

Imperials -
7 TIE Fighters
3 TIE Interceptors
2 TIE Advances
1 Firespray
1 TIE Avenger (Made from a TIE Advance)
1 Lambda Shuttle (Hallmark)

That is three months and hunting online and buying when I find them in my FLGS. Honestly I only bought one thing over MSRP but it has taken a lot of google-fu and ebay stalking.

q3 2013...

You can still find them out there, here and there... distributors are always reshuffling orders it seems as some stores cancel. My FLGS just got a stack of Tie's for example due to a cancelled order from another store.

But ya, Y-wings in particular will be tough to come by it seems, core and slave 1 and falcon being the easiest probably.

Actually...there's quite a bit of these mini's in Barnes and Nobles at Riverdale in WA.....so....how addicting is this genre?

I wish I'd known about the availability issues when I went to Salute, saw loads of wave 2 ships on various stalls at the start of the day, didn't buy the starter until we were leaving and was shocked that every single stall had sold through its expansions.

Its a shame ... really. For a long time we are looking for a real go-to alternative for 40k. We tried malifaux, SoBaH, Wm/H, Infinity etc etc etc. Star Wars really is the first game EVERYONE in my club is interested in. People went out to stores to get themselves some models and were struck by the low availability. Even starter sets go rare here in europe .

Jeah seems we will have to get what is possible and wait for restock day :(

Yeah, the availability at my FLGS is really bad, but the Barnes and Noble just across the street from work has all the wave 1 and 2 small ship expansions. I had been hunting for a second Interceptor when I was wondering around B&N and came upon the treasure trove of ships.

I know that Target has the Starter set, and I really recommend anyone interested in starting buys 2. Not only do you have enough ships and upgrade cards to make things interesting, but you also get enough dice when you buy two starters.

I'll have to check to see if B&N has Y-Wings... I need a pair.
I'm crazy excited for the terrain boards that will be releasing with wave 3.

my FLGS has x, y and a wing as well as TIE fighter and interceptor boosters (might be out of a wings by now). Afraid shipping stuff to Canada from here would kind of kill it though. If not, PM me what you'd need and I could call him to reserve some stuff. wouldn't know how to ship cheaper than €25 though - and that's a LOT of dough... also sells boosters at the EU RRP of €14,95... so for someone who could wait a month or two and order from miniature market at <$10/booster you'd have to be pretty desperate

Ooooo ya... that would be pretty pricey indeed... that is a great selection though! Mostly I would be looking to trade first and foremost, if only to do something productive with the other models lol!

I also ordered some turrets from this guy, you guys have seen these I assume already?

Would've been rather suprised had you jumped at it, lol.
He's only got that much in stock recently though. I... might've purchased one of everything I didn't already have on the spot
Not up for a trade I'm afraid, so good luck.

Nice board. Heh, not too surprised at the header:
DUE TO UNGODLY POPULARITY I AM NOT TAKING ANY MORE ORDERS FOR THE BASE SET OR THE TRENCH SET UNTIL I CAN CATCH UP OR EXPAND. TURRET SETS AND MOLDS ARE STILL AVAILABLE. SORRY...

He he he didn't see that! Man FF should get their gak together they are sitting on a gold-mine... I am surprised investors haven't offered to help them speed up and increase production...

Thanks very much for the offer though, perfectly understood!
