We can officially announce the third ever Bugeater GT. This year it will be held on May 31st through June 2nd at Millard West High School in Omaha, NE. The Grand Tournament is not only an awesome weekend of gaming, but it is also a fundraiser for the debate team that I help coach that raises thousands of dollars for our program. The Millard West debate team has won the state championship the past three years, and has had students place in the top 20 at the NFL national tournament. Our success would not be possible without your support!

New Reasons to Attend for 2013:

Are you already a Bugeater veteran? Here's what's in the cards this time around:

~ Bit swap night during the GT. Especially with the new edition as people dive into their new armies and interests, we'll have tables cleared for people to set up shop and wheel and deal
~Narrative/apocalypse gaming. This is still in the early stages of planning, but multiple people pointed out that we had a whole second gym floor going unused. We plan on setting up a massive apocalypse battle along with some other events (like a BFG invasion scenario to modify the apocalypse game the night before) for those who want to get some fun gaming in, but don't necessarily want to play in the GT.
~Live stream games: we'll be streaming our 40k action for the wide world to see
~More Friday night action! Mini team tournament, warhammer fantasy skirmish, battlefleet gothic, and of course the return of our successful combat patrol!
~Most importantly, focusing on improving. You'll notice that I didn't list anything major for the actual GTs. That's because we're refining what we already do well. Better tournament software for more accurate and quicker pairings. Making sure you don't get stuck on the same table or play someone from your club the first couple of rounds.

If you haven't been to the Bugeater before, here's the brief list of reasons to consider our event:

1. We will use the NOVA style missions and format again (tiered missions, win-loss, etc.)

2. Our cost is low at $52. That's for three days of gaming, and a swag bag, access to the Golden Gobbo painting competition (our version of the Golden Daemon), and a chance at over a dozen prizes for fantasy and 40k each. This is possible because we get access to the facilities for free in exchange for donating money to the debate program.

3. We will again have thousands of dollars to give away in swag bags, raffles between the rounds, and prizes for award winners.

4. We have spots for 64 40k players and 48 fantasy players, but that is only our initial billing. We have the room and materials to expand our slots as necessary. We sold out in February last year (and some people trickled in off our wait list as people backed out of their tickets), so don't wait to get your tickets. I'll post information on how to reserve a spot in the next month or so.

5. If you're looking for some diverse competition this is your GT. Last year we had people come in from more than 10 different states from Wyoming to Texas to Louisiana in addition to the states in our region. We're a 2 hour drive from Des Moines, 3 hours from KC, and only 6 from the Twin Cities.

6. We have awesome concessions at the tournament. The debate kids and staff run the concessions, and in addition to lunch you can get at the tournament site, they will come around to your game tables and take orders for pop, candy, chips, etc. while you're playing. That's service!

Folks - tickets are going to go on sale October 1st. We will NOT be doing pre-registration this year (too many hassles), so tickets are on a first come, first serve basis. Like last year, we will have 64 spots for 40k. We are adding a narrative apocalypse event as well, # of spots are TBD.

The 40k GT is 6 rounds at 1850 points. We will tentatively up our round time to 2:30 based on some feedback I've heard from players. There will be 64 spots.
The Fantasy GT is 5 rounds at 2500 points. There will be 64 spots.

If you purchase either GT ticket, you get a swag bag, access to all the Friday night events, and a free entry in our painting and modeling competition, the Golden Gobbo.

We also have a 40k Apocalypse event this year (Floorhammer as I'm calling it since it will be a massive battlescape on the gym floor). An apocalypse ticket gets you into the Friday night events and a swag bag. There will be separate prize raffles for the apocalypse players as well.

Friday night we'll have lots of stuff going on:

-Combat Patrol
-Fantasy Warbands
-Fantasy Mini ETC team tournament (details to come)
-Battlefleet Gothic mega battle (tied to the Apocalypse event, but anyone is welcome to play)
-Open Gaming
-Badab War scenarios for the apocalypse event (anyone can play)

Its Andyman here. This Years Bugeater is gonna be FANTASTIC!! I am the guy responsible for making the majority of the terrain for our tourney. Thanks for the feedback from last year, it was VERY constructive. We have standardized our terrain placement and size so every table will have an optimal amount of terrain AND manuverablity. There will also be a cool "centerpiece" for every table. There will be enough of each "type" of terrain on every table to ensure a balanced game. And there are enough of each "themed" tables so that you wont play on the same style table for the entire tourney. We also have spare craters at each table for exploded vehicles. And the Apoc game on Saturday is gonna be a blast. I am making special "movement trays" for our foot sloggers with long sticks to use as handles so we dont have to try to move our boys on foot ( it'll speed up the movement phase tremendously ). And dont sweat getting your boys "Nuked" on round one. We have implemented the old "Meatgrinder" rules for Infantry. I have in my possession one of the original Armorcast Phantom Eldar Titans that will make an appearance. We would LOVE to have more TITANS and SUPERHEAVIES show up. I have already started construction of the cityscape and the fortification side. The Apoc game will be impacted upon by the win loss results of the Fiday night BFG and the Friday night 40k scenarios. Now, you dont have to play the Badab scenarios friday night, but why not? They are coming straight out of the Badab Campaign from Forge World. See you guys there!!

Hi folks - this coming week we'll put out our first primer packs for fantasy and 40k. We've asked for input on our facebook page, but if you're not a fan there feel free to post here.

We've sold well over a quarter of our spots so far, it is looking like we'll sell out well before the event again!

You should look for another year of great support from our sponsors - KR Multicase and Fantasy Flight Games have already committed to supporting our event again! And since it is almost Black Friday, think about asking for a Bugeater GT ticket for the holidays

Hi folks, time for an update now that we're nearly a month into 2013!

Tickets are selling at a pretty constant rate here, with well over 1/3 of our spots sold now. We already have people from 7 states attending, and of the people that signed up nearly 40% are first time attendees. Remember there's no reserved spots this year, so if you're one of the many who "plan on coming," make sure you get that ticket!

We'll have some updates on prize support and such as we get closer, but I want to let everyone know that we'll use any new codex /armybook if it is released a month out from the event ... any closer any we'll use the older codex (so April 30th is our deadline). I wanted to clarify that since GW seems to have a faster release schedule for army books, which is a great thing!

Hope to see many of you in June!

With me being stationed close I should be able to attend this GT again. Ticket purchased. Looking forward to some hard fought battles. Now to decide on which army to bring...

I wish that I could make this, but it is the daughter's birthday and 3 day prior to attending a family wedding. Maybe next year, love an excuse to head home for a week.

The golden gobbo is a great painting competition.
There will be a number of entries, and the level of skill last year was INSANE!!
Tim has a great set of well-rounded judges who have been around and seen alot.
What army are you bringing?
You will see my Astral Claws there...

Probably Tyranids... they were my tournament army in 5th and they're even better now in 6th!

One of the big guys that ran away with the Golden Gobbo last year (Johnny Hastings) took a trip to England for South Coast GT so he's not making it to the Bugeater this year. So that leaves the door open for some new folks to get Golden Gobbo awards.

We also have four spots left in 40k - some of our regulars just can't make it this year so any one on the fence has a chance to grab a spot. We're going to have some insanely good competition this year - we've got folks from 12 states coming in and some major GT winners and finalists to boot.

I'm excited to be going (my first big tournament).

One question: Can models used in the tournament also be entered in the Golden Gobbo competition? Or is judging for Golden Gobbo taking place during the tournament?

BTW: What is your alls ruling on this?

Not going to read a 7 page thread myself but you got the RAW wrong on your poll.

But it seems you'd get the 2+ if your obscured by the ruins your in as your still in area and being obscured by ruins gives you a 4+. If your in ruin area but not actually obscured by ruins then it's a 3+

I know the list deadline is Friday but do you plan to have the mini FAQ out before that? Trying to make some final cuts before having that is tough. In specific I was wondering how you would rule on an Ethereal joining an outflanking Kroot unit?

We sent the mini FAQ out tonight. I'm conferring with my judges on this one, but my initial reaction is no on the outflanking kroot - I came to similar conclusions that Neil did. On first go my judges agreed with me too, but we're double checking before a final ruling. I'm curious what the arguments are in favor. The door isn't totally shut but I'll render a final ruling tomorrow just so people know.

I can't really see a good argument for allowing the Ethereal to join and outflank with Kroot. It seems like outflank is a "sub ability" of infiltrate so you would not be able to use that with an independent character. If the precedent had a not been clearly set that infiltrate can not be conferred to a special character then I would vote you could but that is not the case.

One question though. In the mini FAQ you say that Njal's tornado ability can hit flyers now. This feels like you are trumping the GW FAQ. Understand that storm lords lightning ability can hit flyers but I think that is because you must roll to hit, just like the warp storm. The tornado does not roll to hit so according to the GW FAQ,

Q: How do maelstroms, novas and beams – or indeed any weapon that doesn’t need to roll To Hit or hits automatically – interact with Zooming Flyers and Swooping Flying Monstrous Creatures? (p13) A: Only Snap Shots can hit Zooming Flyers and Swooping Flying Monstrous Creatures. Therefore, any attacks that use blast markers, templates, create a line of/area of effect or otherwise don’t roll to hit cannot target them. This includes weapons such as the Necron Doom Scythe’s death ray or the Deathstrike missile of the Imperial Guard, and psychic powers that follow the rule for maelstroms, beams, and novas.

Just curious on that ruling.
