So I'm moving over the next few days, and my hobby area is always the first thing I pack. I decided it was a good time to take a brief inventory of items that I have in MIB or new-open items I have laying around.

The final numbers made me kind of sad, until I calculated what I actually spent on them, which took some research.

For my "Collectors" models(models that I want to paint even though I don't play or collect their army) I have roughly $541msrp worth that are in brand new condition, most of which are single models and many of which are now OOP. Luckily I looked up receipts and trade values and found out that I only paid $239 for those 30 models, which comes out to about 56% off. Not too shabby for wandering around trade forums. Only one of those models came from ebay oddly enough. A few were from ChaosOrc at massive discounts for being overstock and OOP.

Then I added up the misc and 40k stuff I have laying around still in the box. $717msrp!!!! Of which $567 is 40k and ForgeWorld models for my Red Hunters project that has been put on hold.

So $1258 worth of models that are sitting around(and likely will be for some time before I get around to them) just hanging out taking up space.

Now I know that I'm not the only one here who hoards models up for various projects that end up getting delayed and put off for myriad reasons.

So how much(close estimates are fine) do you have that is just laying around nagging at the back of your mind for attention?

Those with spouses who read Dakka are exempt from answering of course, unless they are just as guilty as you!

I have only nine unbuilt models that I am quickly working through. Well-built too: mold lines remved and every part pinned.
I won't claim to have all of them painted (or even half), but I'm doing ok at getting things done at my own pace and have fielded fully painted lists before.

I usually build up an army while I paint my current project.

Using Ebay to get bargains over the course of months.

I probably have 1000 euros worth of oop daemons waiting to be painted once I finish my Sisters.

Not all that much to be honest, two boxes of Termagants and a few LOTR items. No more than £100 worth of stuff anyway.

Almost nil. I tend to want to get new stuff on the table top as quickly as possible. In addition, boxes and sprues take up considerably more space than assembled models, and space is at a premium here.

...unpainted stuff though...I don't even want to think about it

Well, its the accumulated detritus of 20 years worth of wargaming so it tends to mount up, especially with a master procrastinator like myself. The stuff that I count as 'sitting around' is stuff that is all assembled and used but stuff that needs to be painted - that is essentially my hobby backlog. I never have stuff not assembled but almost permanently have things awaiting painting. This includes but is not limited to:

  • 3000 points of every 40K army, including 5 Space Marine and 2 Chaos Marine armies

  • All released Blood Bowl teams - at the moment I have painted half the teams so far

  • 3 3000 point BFG fleets

  • A bunch of Man O War ships

  • A load of Warmachine Starter sets

  • 4 Brushfire factions sets

  • 3 Historical Wild West gangs

  • A load of Dark Future cars, buggies and bikes

  • 30k points of Epic Orks

  • 30K+ points of Epic Space Marines

  • 30K+ points of Epic Chaos

  • 20K Epic Eldar

  • 20K Epic Tyranids

  • Assorted HeroQuest stuff

  • A new edition Space Hulk set

  • A load of Incursion miniatures

  • 3000 point GW equivalent Mantic Dwarf army

  • 3000 point GW equivalent Mantic Elf army

  • 3000 point GW equivalent Mantic Chaos Dwarf army

  • 3 Carnevale starter sets + an 18th Century Venice game board to complete

  • That's the stuff I can think of off-hand. There's probably more I'm ashamed to admit. I used to have all the free time in the world and squandered it on booze and video games and then once my wife and daughter entered the equation, I have no time at all. One day I will finish it all...

Had a brief look in the "pending" chest earlier this week with th gf, had to stop as it was getting a bit silly pulling out all these resealable bags filled with metal. Guess my recent few months worth of eBay activity amassed quite a bit!

I have hundreds of LotR metals, a Tyranid army (about 1250 pts), the rest of my Dark Elves, Dark Vengeance, Dreadfleet. Oh dear. If I implemented a buy no more until everything is painted policy I'd never buy any more models at the rate I paint!

Unbuilt is mainly the focus. Things that you haven't even started on at all.

Well I always prepare new purchases (clean, build/assemble, prime) and then store them in a drawer/box.

Leaving shrink-wrapped boxes around just takes too much space and it gives the impression I'm just going to buy buy buy and never work on them!

Ok so for unbuilt I have: DV chaos models, 1 Valkyrie, 1 Catachans CCS, 1 HWT Catachans, 1 metal chaos raptors box, 2 plastic CSM boxes,
1 CSM rhino. And I have also have some unopened blisters: 1 warriors of chaos sorc (plastic), 1 VC plastic necromancer, 1 chaos lord with jump pack (metal) and 1 chaos terminator lord (metal).
Oh yes and there will be more when chaos omes out, at least one box from each new models from the new chaos range of minis.

I've got $600-$700 just in stuff for sale that I know I'm never going to do anything with myself.

Beyond that I've got boxes of bits, a DV box mostly untouched, a Land Raider to build... most of my stuff (high elves, a whole IG army, and a bunch of recent SM ebay buys) are in the "strip and repaint" pile.

Hmm... This is one of those questions that I hate to think about, but makes me feel slightly better when I see that some people have exponentially more to do than myself.

I have the following just sitting around waiting in unopened boxes:

    ~2000 pts. of Imperial Guard

    ~1000 pts. of Orks

~3000 pts. of Space Marines (opened but still on frames)

    Terrain: Imperial Sector, Craters, Barricades

The fact that I'm not alone is a large rock off my shoulders

    - Loads of Bretonnia. Two or three Battalions, several boxes of knights, Grail Relique, some Battle Pilgrim blisters, Trebouchet, some more blisters (Damsels, Lords etc). It turned out I didn't want to build a Bretonnia army after all.

    - A CSM battleforce and a box of ten Chaos Marines

    - Dreadfleet

    - The Warmachine two-player starter set

    - A Republique of France fleet (Dystopian Wars)

I get roughly $1000. And so the rock is back on my shoulders again...

In money I've paid, I'd estimate about $400 of items in my "to do" list. Unassembled it would only be the new starter box, everything else waiting is assembled just lacking a proper paint job.

I always build stuff the day I buy it so nothing un-assembled. The amount that requires painting, however...

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."
