Having read the majority of HH books, I have noticed how several of the authors seem to be found of having the face of a character cut off. So far I count Little Horus, Tchure, Julius, Alajos and Erebus, with the latter being the newest member to join the club.

Is this ongoing trend something that has primarily happened in HH series? Or are such cases also commonly found in regular 40k books? And what do you think of this concept? Do you find it cool, or distasteful?

No one should be complaining about this codex. It gave regular Eldar a much needed buff by allowing us to drop Fire Dragons and D-Scythe Wraithguard wherever we want, without scatter. Without this, I almost lost a game once. It was scary. I almost took to buying fixed dice to ensure it never happened again.

You forgot all the Alpha Legionaires who transplanted their faces.

Yeah, the HH seem to be turning into a bunch of ideas that the authors got from other movies and books.

I'm losing interest in the HH because of this.

The heresy was more interesting before they started detailing everything. Odd removal of faces and survival of virus bombing didn't help any either.

Well, there's only so many ways to maim a character without killing him outright. The HH books are filled with dismemberment, face carvings, backstabbing, and so on. The authors want to show a character's suffering without killing him before the Black Library is done with him in the storyline. For example, I see Little Horus turning on Horus during the siege of Terra. Little Horus is supposed to be the spitting image of Horus. His face being marred is supposed mean...something. I don't know what.

100 times this. It was much more interesting as ten millenia old myth of treachery and betrayal.

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?"

I agree. However, since they already crossed the event horizon, I say just go all the way and start making miniatures and stuff from the heresy.

It was more the obsession with breaking peoples backs that I've noticed...

I like to think the whole face wounding thing a lot of the time is a joke about sergeants running around without helmets on.

He loses it in Fear to Tread. The scene were his face gets cut off, is so awesome, that it alone is a good enough reason as to why people absolutely should buy and read this amazing book.

Read the spoiler below friend and you shall receive enlightenment.

Spoiler:
‘You let the mask slip Erebus,’ he told him. ‘You showed yourself to me. I saw what you show them.’ Horus touched the tip of the dagger on the Apostle’s cheek and he flinched away as it burned him. The Sons of Horus were suddenly there at his back, blocking his retreat.

and

Spoiler:
‘Let me see that face again,’ said Horus, cutting a bloody line across Erebus’s forehead. ‘Your true face.’ With an artist’s care, the Warmaster sliced through flesh and into meat. Through he gasped and trembled, Erebus did not cry out. Horus took the severed edge between his fingers, and like the turning of a page, he skinned Erebus’s face from his blood smothered head.
