I shudder to think what that giraffe will be...

Totally agree on the dude casting Bigby's Really Icky Eye. It doesn't actually do anything but really grosses out the other guys (save vs paralysis or lose an action)

Love your work as always, pure brilliance with the eyeball. Really great.

And welcome to the competition, looks like a fantastic idea, really looking forward to seeing where you go with it.

A wizard needs a high Eye.Q. to cast such a spell, to be certain. I do like the way these wizards are turning out. Nice job, Josh.

Syro, it was a spell, sort of, BITD, wizard eye. The eye was invisible though.

The eyeball wizard is great and my only complaint is that all the eye jokes have been made already

I guess this thread has become quite... j-ocular

Y'know, when I posted these photos, I didn't forsee them leading to a pun thread. I'll have to keep a closer eye on you lot.

I don't normally post WIP photos, but I guess doing so is SOP for LoER competitions. Here's the fire pit all built:

I put down a layer of sand/gravel on the base, built a ring out of slightly larger gravel, filled that in with slightly smaller gravel, and then added some wood I cut from scrap balsa. I soaked the whole thing in watered-down PVA to keep it all together.

Then I painted it. It came out a lot better than I thought it would. Next, I have to chop up the giraffe and get it ready for the spit.

Any thread can become a pun thread without warning. you would do well not to fan those flames

Also the fire looks very good! it looks very much like glowing embers.

I’m getting all hot and bothered by the puns. Maybe I just need to go sing Cumbayah(however you spell it) roar a while.

Thanks for all the kind words, every one. They really fan the flames of creativity.

I've had to slow down a lot in the last month or so. My wife (quite correctly) as pointed out that I have too much hobby stuff, and need to thin out the Closet of Shame. I don't really have time day to day for that sort of thing, so it will have to wait until summer break. Until then, I'm trying to keep a lower hobby profile in order to maintain domestic tranquility. That said:

I added the posts to the fire pit, chopped up the giraffe and added the spit. I can see the finish line from here-- about three more painting sessions should do it.

Starting to look delicious. The fire looks perfect.

As a by the by, Geoffrey the Giraffe was the mascot for Toys'R'Us, a toy store here in the UK, so right now quite a few of your slightly younger Brit fans are having a real problem!!! Not me, I used to be a butcher at one point so just about anything that moves is edible in my book.

Toys'R'Us started here in the US. Sadly, it was destroyed by Late Stage Capitalism.

Another useless bit of information about Giraffes that I heard on the radio many years ago is: Giraffe milk is kosher , it had been debated for a long time as they have hooves or some such thing. I just remember hearing that the Jewish high authority (not sure of the name) had decided on it after much deliberation.

In my elementary school, very tall students named Geoffrey were nicknamed Geoffrey the Giraffe because of the Toys Я Us.

Was there not a fuss a few years back when a Danish zoo in Copenhagen butchered a giraffe named Marius instead of trading it to another zoo? The Europeons could learn a few things about wildlife management from us Americans. Heaven knows we learned the lessons the very, very hard way.

I like the way the fire pit has turned out. My taste would be for a spit roasted elk. Elk venison is so tasty. I have no idea about giraffe.

Maybe something to suggest a wisp or two of smoke from the fire?

I only went with the giraffe because that particular toy had the best profile once it was beheaded. The moose looked kind weird to me. I'll probably add some flames if I have time before the contest deadline.

I see a fire pit with meat roasting and the Monster Hunter cooking jingle starts rolling through my head.

Well done!

Great job on the thatched building, looks awesome! I have heard of the twine method, and you have made it look fantastic. Another faster method is to use old hand towels, something I want to try sometime.

The firepit is also excellent! Great job on the embers and coals.

I'm not familiar with that song, but I'll take it as a compliment. Also, this piece is for a RoSD scenario involving gnolls, so I suspect the meat will be quite rare...

The twine looks pretty good, IMO, but was a PITA to do. I've thought about the washcloth technique, and may try that next time.

A little more progress on the fire pit:

I painted the carcass in browns-- that's what most of the GIS results for "roast whole cow" looked like. I added some OSL to the bottom of the carcass (you can barely see it in this photo), as well as some on the rocks (slightly more visible). The whole thing feels almost finished, but I'm not wholly certain what it's missing. Ideas?
