You are just picking nits. Theres a huge difference that you are ignoring. #1 Lovecraft openly gave permissions to expand upon and use his works. (D&D Cartoon did not) Mythologies are seen as open license because nobody owns the rights to them. (D&D cartoon is not) If you can't understand how that makes them different then I don't think you want to understand.

The artwork is better than I can do, so I can't complain.

A couple points: 1-- regardless of copyright (the legal side and in some cases the moral side), there is the fundamentally similar aspect of profiting off of someone else's idea, which I believe is the point he's making

2-- "better than I can do" is a pretty thin argument.
•mechanics that only half-fix my car
•most TV, movies, music, which I feel are poorly executed (rather than just not my taste)
•overpriced restaurant food

... just 'cause I'm not capable of doing things as well doesn't mean that I don't have the right to complain about "professional" things that aren't professional. Especially when there are other options.

EDIT: for the record, the above point is for the sake of argument if that isn't clear, not commenting on/comparing to Dominion of the Gods

They get ignored because they don't have an exciting Kickstarter campaign planned. Think of it as marketing.

Those Games Workshop guys seem to be doing pretty well risking their own money.

It's okay not to like a model. But as soon as you take the conversation personal, you're stepping over the line. Many posts deleted; back on topic, folks.

Given that we've ALREADY had a moderator reminding people to stay on-topic, next person to post OT in this thread is getting a vacation.

Are there going to be other pantheons for different gods, or are we just looking at Greeks, and Norse?

Other then that, the Cyclops looks good, can't wait to see some other figures....

In supporting this project, our hope is to not only release these two quick start box sets, but also to fund other quick start boxes in other mythos, such as the Celtic, Hindu or Lovecraft.

So, hopefully it does well!

The new Celtic/Irish box set is available to pledge. Looks like some more great models and more options for the game.

I like the idea- skirmish scale brawls with models drawn from different pantheons. But with only a few models, I am not sure how the rest will turn out. Cyclops and minotaur look very characterful, but the Athena and Thor models look meh and the Amazon promo has weird hands. The sketches are terribad.

The Tiamat coin seems like really poor game design. Pay for going first. Really? I think a commemorative coin would be sufficient.

Also, why destroy the cyclops variant after the KS? Seems unnecessary given that alt weapons would probably attract more buyers/players even if it was just an upgrade pack.

Would like to see Deep Ones and Father Dagon, though. Mainly just because I love HPL themed minis.

Yeah! Because you don't have to buy things to have their abilities in any game! That would be poor game design! GW gives us FMC's.

Seriously, they explain how coins are part of the game and how there are a bunch that will come out. Some will be easy to get and others will be commemorative.

Also, the Amazon was done by vlad junger so it's probably a weird camera angle.

Sadly I'm only interested in this if they hit the 50k mark, and I can get a Lovecraft Starter Set.

Something about a Half-Deep One wearing a finely tailored Turn of the 20th century suit punching Thor in the face makes me smile.

Other wise I'm less interested in this game, and more interested in just picking up some of the better single modles for use in RPG's and stuff. Some of these would be realy usefull and cool.

huh.. I was posting as I was reading, so posted that reply before I saw your post. I'm a bit ambivalent about this one, as I've had no experience with these guys or their ability to deliver. The cyclops looks like it's in a kind of WarmaHordes style. I don't mind the Greeks, Norse or Celts, but I'm not in love with any of them either, especially with concept art rather than actual figures (Athena's face looks a bit cartoony, for example) and I'm pretty Kickstarter-ed-out at this stage....

I wouldn't get too concerned about the silly coin. If you're playing with a friend and he tries to pull that one out constantly, then he's probably a bit of a douche and not worth playing with. Otherwise, this game's probably not going to get a hyper-competitive tournament scene. Realistically, you'll be lucky to find another human with one of these sets to play against (unless you buy two yourself for friendlies) so the coin will be the least of your concerns.

Destroying the alt-weapons gives them a chance to put up a "limited edition Kickstarter miniature - not available anywhere else! - EVER!"
Again, not a huge deal. The weapons aren't too far off something you could clip off a Reaper or GW figure yourself, after all.

New updates for this Kickstarter.

First up, they posted a picture of the Achilles sculpt.

Second, they have now made available an H.P. Lovecraft Quickstart box set. Here is the concept art for a Mi-go:

the box set is said to contain
Yog-Sothoth (50 mm base)

Mi-go with lightning gun (40 mm base)

Mi-go with plasma ejector (40 mm base)

Shoggoth (40 mm base)

Keziah Mason with Brown Jenkin (40 mm base/possible extra 30 mm base for Brown)

Maybe It might be me, but didn't thig game start out as a Pantheon of the Gods sort of fight?

How do you make the streach from Ancient Greeks to the cthuhlu mythos?

Wouldn't it have made better sense to go for something along the lines of, you know... Pantheions of the Gods for different real cultures? As in South America, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Visigoths, Huns,etc....

That is the point at which they lost me. Interesting, but this one looks like it needs a better vision of what exactly they want to fund, rather then just throwing grasss in the wind and seeing what takes.

Still going to watch it, but would like to see some more substance then what has been shown in the artwork. Though the sculpts are getting better then the artwork, they need to work on the delivery here.

Cthulhu and Friends are big attention getters and sales generators - seems like a smart move to me to include them.

Their presence will help fund more 'real' Gods, I'm sure.

Actually, it started out as and has always been about Mythologies. The Cyclops and Minotaur are not Gods. The H.P. Lovecraft stories are frequently referred to as "the Lovecraft Mythos" so I think it is staying right on course.

While playing with made up or 'dead' Gods is cool I fear they may end up creating a degree of ill feeling if they get to the Hindu faction.

That's a real, major, active faith with people who belive in it and who could be upset by any portrayal....

Would they do a Christian, Islamic or Jewish faction ? If the answer is no for any of the above, I'd say stick to 'dead' gods

The figures look good, but need more info on this to make a decision.

Are we looking at a WORLD view of gods? What does the future releases list look like?

IMO, it looks like they rushed this, and are really being a bit pushy.

Don't get me wrong, Comfy Chair has some fun little sculpts, but they are not nessesarily known for reliability.

Watching this one, though. Good looking sculpts so far.

This. Spinespur was a great little game, with cool fluff, and great sculpts. They started to get some momentum behind them, and they just folded under the pressure. I'm interested in the game, but will wait until it's well established.

Note also that the Cthulhu Mythos box is specifically because a $5k pledger requested it as the pledge perk. To make me jump in, no doubt. Madness is insidious!

Just a clarification, there was no folding under pressure or reliability issues. There was however a Divorce that forced them into a hiatus.

Also, new news is in!

Thats a lot of big models for $55!

That's what, $9 and change for each model? With 2 oversized monsters, 2 large models, and 2 30mm scale models, that seems like a really solid deal. In WM/Hordes terms, it's like 2 heavies, 2 mediums, and 2 solos.

Apparently for the Lovecraft box it is Yog Sothoth (I MELT YOUR PITIFUL GOD'S SANITY AS WELL AS MY OWN!), 3 Mig-Gos with hi tech guns a Shoggoth and Keziah Mason with Brown Jenkins (not sure if this is two models or one). Awesome!

Unfortunately this one didn't reach its funding goal.

Anyone know what the plans are going forward, if any?

They really didn't help themselves by stating early on that "The sets will be five models! No more! We're already offering you the best value we can! No stretch goals to add free stuff!"

I see they changed it in the end, but it was clearly too little, too late. I thought the figures looked quite decent, but they're unknowns, I've never heard of them, and they're focused on a game I frankly don't care about (as opposed to the miniatures). The minis, while nice aren't amazing value (in the KS) when you consider I can also buy some cool Greeks from Warlord Games, and some cool vikings, trolls, ogres and minotaurs from.. well, almost anyone else, and do so right now and have them delivered in a week or so. So why would I be especially excited to pay upfront and hope they come through, sometime next year? (especially since places I know have a proven track record are already/going to be late at best)...

Good points, and a good example of how not to run a Kickstarter.

For better or for worse, expectations have been set for these things, and trying to 'buck the system' that hard out of the gate certainly didn't help...
