I'd get in now on the Gold reward. You'll get discounts on both the KS campaign, plus access to a post-KS web site where you can order additional minis at a discounted price. If you've been eyeing that wicked cool Chimera, Manticore, or one of the other monstrous creatures, now's your chance for a huge discount... Also the minis are great as they can pull double-duty for those of you running role-playing games.

In the grim darkness of the far future, we shall kick back, drink a few beers, and exchange a few war stories....

Norse - Hrafn Starter Host

As the last piece in the puzzle of the Norse Starter Host - Hrókr, the Gunnhrafn - has been unveiled, it's time to give you the Norse Starter Host!

Darklands Starter Hosts, which give you an easy to purchase host that contains a general, a couple of units and some order tokens and D10 dice; everything you need to get started with Darklands, basically!

These Starter Hosts can be purchased via any reward; simply choose your reward, then increase your pledge accordingly.

Each Starter Host contains everything explicitly listed on their graphic, as well as the following accessories:

10x white Mierce Wolf D10 Dice
1x black Mierce Wolf D10 Die
1x kindred-specific Order Token Set (containing 5x MOVE, 5x HOLD and 5x ATTACK order tokens)

Now, these Starter Hosts do not offer any further discount than if you purchased each individual miniature or accessory separately; they're just an easy way to see what a cool host could be to get you started.

Without further noise, here's the Norse Starter Host, and a repise of all the other Starter Hosts you can go for right now...

There'll be more Starter Hosts as more units are unlocked, so check back soon!

I've issues with the way she's sat atop the horse, which I've mentioned in the KS comments, but if you think she looks out of place as an Irish/Celtic woman in a fantasy setting, I suggest you're not overly familiar with the trope...
Spoiler:

As for the type of horse? Yeah, aesthetically a slightly finer boned Arabian, Lipizzaner or Thoroughbred would suit more appropriately, but those breeds are all either hopelessly anachronistic to the setting, or possibly geographically for Arabs, I'm not sure when they originated as a breed.

Personally, I'd just like her positioned in a way that suggested she was actually riding a living, breathing animal, rather than just glued into the saddle!

Two Days to Go!
Comment
1 like

It feels like it's only just begun, but amazingly, there's only two days to go on our current Kickstarter project - so you'd better get your skates on if you want to take part and smash through some more stretch goals!

We're currently at £108,000 - let's drive it higher!
Current Stretch Goals

We've smashed through a few stretch goals over the past few weeks, but there's still plenty to go at. Here's what's currently up for grabs!

Stretch Goals Map

Here's an updated Stretch Goals Map, too, to keep you abreast of all the goals achieved and unachieved:

Watch out for more stretch goals unveiled over the coming week!
VOTE FOR THE £120,000 STRETCH GOAL!

As we're nothing if not concerned with what backers want (and definitely not because we're stumped as to what to put up next, oh no), we've decided to let you guys decide on what the next Unit stretch goal should be on our Darklands: First Edition II Kickstarter project.

All you have to do is vote on our forums by clicking on this link!

http://www.mierce-miniatures.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=285

Be quick though - the vote will be closed when we reach £110,000, which is not far away!
Sneak Peeks - this is what you could be funding!

There's one thing we do on the comments section that always gets people excited. We show sneak peeks of concept art that could appear as stretch goals later on in the project!

Take a look at what you could be funding soon!

Get yourself on Facebook and have a look!

600 backers isn't going to happen - probably.

This KS offers nice 'value', but does not touch the "too good to resist" territory necessary to get that many additional backers in the next 2 days.

A lot of the concept art above won't see reality until the next Kickstarter in 6 months time, if then even, depending on what 'needs' to get made in order to get more people playing the Darklands game, which will in turn help drive sales and future campaigns...

Get the minis you love, paint them up, and your friends will come around eventually (or just incorporate them into whatever project).

For example, I'm getting these three at least, for no reason at all aside from to paint and display (and my painting is decent, but nothing to write home about):

I'm more of a sci fi junkie, so they'd be Darklands or nothing really. I still have two days to convince them I guess. Also there's a lot of questioning the popularity of the kickstarter and a slight naysaying of other kickstarters currently running which is... Odd, to say the least.

So we're closing in on £110,000, which will lock in the ongoing vote for the unit unlocked at £120,000!

Right now the Gairlom (Albainn's first human infantry unit) are in the lead.

The Mallax have made a very un-sloth like surge in to second place.

And the Shadow-Drunes are close behind, which is the last place you want a Shadow-Drune!

You can vote by registering on the Mierce forum here: http://www.mierce-miniatures.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=285

For those interested in the rules you can check out some awesome community interaction with Rob in the Rules Discussion forum here: http://www.mierce-miniatures.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=3

Last leak from Rob on miniatures was that the Albainn will be getting giant hairy bull/mammoth things as monstrous beasts down the road!

Looking forward to seeing what else will come up as we enter the last 40 hours of this campaign!

Well, I've just received some pretty terrible financial news, which, unless it can be resolved, is going to significantly impact not only my hobby spending, but my whole life.

The odds of it being resolved in time for me to maintain my pledge are tiny, so, with great regret, I'm going to have to drop out. At least I was only in for £100, so you guys shouldn't miss me too much when I'm gone....

Time to catch up on the updates:

Update #48
Apr 21 2014
£112,500 - Quintus Crito

With two days to go and £107,500 reached, it's time to give you another stretch goal... especially as we're so close to £110,000 and In III Judas!

Quintus Crito is is free to anybody who has purchased the In III Judas Demilegionary Incaendium (whichever way you've bought it). Otherwise, he's £10 regardless of your reward!

Quintus Crito is an Optio, second only to the Centurion in a Byzantii legion, and thus a Warchief. He is Drilled (although he can be upgraded to Veteran status) and Uncommon, and if Veteran he will be Rare. He is armed with a spatha (sword), a pugio (dagger) and a hastile (staff, to keep the troops in line); he is armoured with a mix of lorica segmentata (plate) and squamata (scale) armour and will bear a scutum (shield) in the final sketch and miniature.

On that note, Danny Cruz is so busy at the moment that the only concept art we have for Quintus is a sketch, but Danny will of course complete the artwork very soon (although possibly not during the project). Either way, we think he's going to be a great sculpt.

Unlike the other "freebies tied to a unit", Quintus Crito is not exclusive to this project. He is a completely new miniature and, as we need an Optio in the Byzantii, it would make sense to ensure he will become a general release!

Even so, the free Quintus Crito is limited to one per backer, but of course you can purchase additional Quintus Crito miniatures within this project.

No Exchanges!

Note that we will not exchange Quintus Crito for any other miniature, so please don't ask! He is tied to his unit. The reason for doing this is simple - logistically it's a nightmare to exchange miniatures and will lead to errors when we get to packing your orders. Of course, we are very sure that other backers will help out with exchanges, and our forums are the perfect place to do so!

    One Day to Go!
    Spoiler:

With just one day to go on our current Kickstarter project, Darklands: First Edition II, you'd better get your skates on if you want to take part, grab some bargains and smash through some more stretch goals!

    We're currently at £109,000 - let's drive it higher!

Good Reasons to Back this Project!

So, you may ask - why should I back your project? That's a good question, so here's some answers!

    • AMAZING DEALS! the "ALL THE UNITS" reward gives you fifty miniatures at over 50% off their projected RRP, and you can get up to 50% off whatever you purchase with "THE GOLD SPOT"!

    • THE GOLD REWARD BONUS! For every £100 you pledge, we give you £10 - but this bonus is ONLY applied to pledges made during the length of the project, so the more you pledge now, the more you get back!

    • ACCESS TO OUR BACK CATALOGUE at 20% off the UK RRP! For pledging on this project, we reward you with access to our entire back catalogue until the end of May, at 20% off the UK RRP. This includes everything released up to now, plus a few other bits and pieces!

    • ACCESS TO OUR PREVIOUS PROJECT, DARKLANDS: FIRST EDITION, at that project's prices! As well as giving you 20% off our back catalogue, we give you the opportunity to purchase just about everything from our previous project, including hosts and special offers!

    • WE FUND MORE AWESOME MINIATURES! Every penny you spend gets us nearer to another stretch goal, and that means more choice for you!

In short, there's lots of reasons why you should, and no reasons why you shouldn't!

Go to this update - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mierceminiatures/darklands-first-edition-ii/posts/799148 - for full details on what you can get from our back catalogue and Darklands: First Edition by backing this project.

She reminds me of a naked fantasy chick some D&D nerd drew in high school, then decided to pencil on some clothes at the last minute. I say this as a D&D nerd having drawn more than my fair share at the time lol. Its the spandex look of the clothes, the visible nipples, quasi camel toe etc.... I'm not even sure what that top would have been made out of historically to get that look. I have total confidence the actual mini will be amazing, I just have to kind of chuckle at the art.

    £117,500 - Armoured Trolls
    Comment
    9 likes

Now that we've passed £110,000, we can bring you a couple of stretch goals to aim for over the last twenty-four hours of the project.

First up , a nice little stretch goal that pays homage to a lovely man and a backer of all our projects, Andrew Speirs!

As it says on the tin, Andrew - without being commissioned by Mierce - took it upon himself to convert a couple of the Trolls he loves so much to have hammers and more armour. When he showed us his work at Salute 2014, we were gobsmacked - we loved the results so much, we decided to purchase them from him... and hopefully commission him to do more!

Now, he's already done Armoured Gurrir and Armoured Nisurl, so regardless of where this project gets to, you'll be able to purchase those; but he'll also be converting the three remaining members of the Troll unit (Vörtun, Gjöll and Unnolg) to have hammers and more armour. We may even be able to get him to convert Vörtun to have two hammers instead of one.

What are you waiting for? Get them funded so Andrew can work his magic!

    Update #52

£120,000 - Spears of Dun Durn, Gairlom Unit
    Comment
    4 likes

Well, our £120,000 Stretch Goal Vote was a big success, because 125 of you took part and decided that the next unit stretch goal would be the Spears of Dun Durn, the Albainn Gairlom Unit!

The Spears of Dun Durn are the very first infantry unit for the Albainn, a unit of Gairlom, and show the savagery of northern man very well. Semi-professional they may be, but their harsh environment ensures they know one end of a sharp stick from the other!

Gairlom will stand on 30mm bases and will be around 30mm to the eye. They are common, Trained infantry equipped with spear and shield, and can be taken in units of 5-20.
They are NOT in "ALL THE UNITS"

Please note, the Spears of Dun Durn are NOT part of the "ALL THE UNITS" pledge; you must increase your pledge further if you wish to purchase them.

Damn those demilegionary guys look badass.

Ha! You have perfectly described how I've felt about the character this entire time.

I think I'm out. After much mulling and discussion I'm not sure my friends will ever buy in a rrp, and from browsing the rules the big beasties will always be the stars of the show, and I'm more of a non monstrous guy.

Im wavering one way then the other. I hear you Zond, but then I looked at my mounted Penda. To stay in for a few choice pieces, drop or go the whole way down the rabbit hole.

As more and more 'regular' infantry show up, I think the game will take off faster.

But it is the giant beasties that seem to draw the majority of the "Oohs" and "Aahs"!

Still loving the Trolls, they are tempting me every time i see them, but the weird bird like things that look like they're from the Dark Crystal are also really intriguing and could sway me as well?

I'm really hoping the unit makes an appearance in this KS, but even if they don't we did unlock one of their Leaders in the previous KS which you would be able to buy

Oh now that's good to know! :-) he looks wicked too and is something completely left of centre for my usual projects, dragon cousins you say? crikey now what would I paint the skin like then!? it's an endless oportunity now in a good way! I may just buy him to start and then build as I figure out what to do with them :-)

As we're nothing if not concerned with what backers want (and definitely not because we're stumped as to what to put up next, oh no), we've decided to let you guys decide on what the £125,000 stretch goal should be on this project.

All you have to do is head on over to the Mierce Miniatures Forums and vote!
PLEASE NOTE, THIS POLL WILL BE LOCKED WHEN THE PROJECT TOTAL IS £110,000!

    So vote quickly!
    ALBAINN - Gudhlagg, Oghur Uhmaer

Gudhlagg is an Oghur commander and will be 50-55mm to the eye, standing on a 60mm base. He will be a Wild Warchief with an Ubiquity of Rare.
BRYTHONIAID - Geraint Nerthol, Teyrn of Cedweli on Ceffyldraig

Here's a diversion for you - Geraint Nerthol riding a mighty horse-dragon (Ceffyldraig) into battle! Geraint is a Teyrn of course, a warlord, and his Ceffyldraig is a beast standing on an 80mm base and around 40-50mm to the shoulders.
BYZANTII - Tri IV Acteon, Auxilia Bestiarii Tribum

A unit of Auxilia Bestiarii, the better to control your Byzantii beasts such as Ulmons or Tykho (in a similar way to the Goad-Drunes of the Ysians). These guys - Uncommon, Drilled infantry - stand on 30mm bases and will be around 30mm tall to the eye.
    FOMORAIC - Gaanh, Walvax Gultain

Gaanh is the first of the Fomoraic Walvax, or walrus-men, 'orrible nasties at home on land as well as in the cold seas. Gaanh will stand at around 50mm to the eye and on a 60mm base, and will be a Wild Warchief with an Ubiquity of Uncommon.
    KHTHONES - Ignilak, Zalamandra

Zalamandra are particularly nasty lizards, heavily armoured and able to spit gobbets of fire upon their enemies. Zalamandra are Rare, Wild monstrous beasts able to be taken in units of 1-3 and stand on 60mm bases, being around 40mm tall to the eye.

    You can purchase one Ignilak.
    NORSE - Stígr, Felljötunn

Felljötunn are hill giants, related to the mighty Jötunn but smaller and less brutal. Even so, they are still formidable opponents, well able to turn the tide of battle!

Felljötunn will be armed with hammers and wear light armour. They will stand on 80mm bases and will be around 80mm to the eye. They will be Wild Monstrous Beasts, able to be taken in units of 1-3.
YSIANS - Hedroc of Carn Maen, Battle-Drune on Hound-Horse

Hedroc is an Ysian Battle-Drune and he likes to ride a Hound-Horse into battle! The Hound-Horse will stand on an 80mm base and be around 40-45mm to his shoulders.

Those are your options... choose wisely!

The whole vote closes at £110K is likely a type as we're already at £111K...
