so I'm making a allied detachment for my pirate necrons of counts as CSM. one of the things that will be included is a bunch of counts as cultists, I just don't know how to make them. I was thinking having them be some kind of sea creatures with guns, but I just can't decide what to make and how to make them. what I have in abundance is Scarabs, much more than I need in fact, so I'm looking to make the scarabs into some kind of humanoid robotic sea creature with some GS and plasticard. as I've said before I'm stumped as to what to make them, so if anyone has any good fishy ideas I'd like to hear them.

I've already got a unit of warriors covered in barnacles to use as plague marines, so barnacles is taken.

An excellent idea for a Nurgle counts as. Hmm, I'll keep brainstorming.

Maybe not a very menacing animal, but since you look like you can handle the green stuff pretty well, I though about Mantas Rays:

Scarabs already have that "tail" portion in the back, you could easly add the rest of the tail and you can create the fins for the sides ... only problem would be the scarab's claws. You would have to either remove them or cover them up with the green stuff

If they are going to be humanoid creatures, maybe it would be a waste, but you could try to create a rough humanoid shape holding a weapon and glue scarabs all around, with a different colored scarab as the head. A bit like D&D's Larva Mage, but far less sick:

How about some kind of robo squid, jellyfish or crab?

Or perhaps paint up some cultists piratey and fashion on the scarabs as some kind of mechanical 'alien' facehugger/half-life headcrab that is controlling them.
You could remove some of the face and glue on the scarab then greenstuff or plasticard some legs wrapping around the head. Maybe even add a tube or something going from the scarab into thier brains?

I've actually been looking at squid and crabs as inspiration. I'll look some more into this.

Since you want them to count-as cultists, use the scarabs as helmets for human figures. Sure they'll look bizarre, but makes perfect sense for cultists in a necron pirate army to wear 'silly hats', either to imitate their masters or to control the hapless cultists.

Sorry bit of a syntax error, I'm working on a pirate necron army that I use as necrons, but I want to make some more specialized troops as counts as CSM. Hope that clears it up.

Right, but why? CSM rules are extremely different than Necron rules, what possible sense does that counts as make? I might have to see the reasoning to "get" this concept.

My reasoning is simple: I'm a big believer in things happening for a reason and when I was thinking up themes for each of my four warrior units they just happened to match the theme for the cult troops. Unfortunatelly you can only make cult troops troops in a primary detachment, so I needed some actuall CSM troops to get some allied cult troops. It's not actual CSM in the fluff, just weird necrons using their rules. Like the keel haulers who are warriors covered in barnacles count as plague marines. But more to the point is that I made a connection and wanted to run with it. Kind of like how I read something about how DE are glass hammers and it made me think of avatar, now I feel the need to make fire bender DE. It's just my process.

You try and go down the Headcrab route (or Headcron, in this case) a la Half-Life.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
