I'm going back to Kan's statement from the first page:

"It's cinematic!"

As long as "cinematic" is somehow a euphemism for "dead Cadians everywhere".

I'm still going to keep on planning my own trench line, utterly lacking in guardsmen corpses as the main mottif. You can see what they will look like in Dawn of War, guardsmen quarters, with rough and ready dirt works.

The dead cadians don't bother me that much, you could PVA some sand over the corpses and you have instant rubble. What does concern me however is the big SKULLS WITH BOOKS AND WINGS motif on every second section, it just seem very much oversized and impractical, and that's including GW's previous record of oversized, under detailed, cartoony terrain.

that said does anyone know whether these will be in resin or plastic?

I thought it was a euphemism for "random rolls everywhere!"?

Maybe they'll be "Mysterious Above Ground Trenches" and have a chart included in the box.

If they're above ground trenches then they're already mysterious. Who would build them? It's a mystery!!!!

No no no, that's "glorytastic".

Jeez HB. You have to stay current with the times!

That said...dead Cadians everywhere makes me sad. Not just because I love Cadians, mostly because of the fact that it is silly to have the trenches piled with bodies before the battle even starts.

I have an army of cadian style troops. Some dead ones in front of a barricade would suit me just fine! If I did not already have a vast Warmill fortress waiting to be built...

Wait a sec... are you saying you'd build trenches IN the ground? As in "with a shovel"? Seriously? What are you, some kind of savage? Next you'll be telling us you'd reinforce those dirt trenches with wood beams and bags of sand stacked on top.

There's actually reasons for skeletal Cadians on the outside of the battlements. One I think of immediately is the world was taken from the Imperium, and an IG regiment (since the 'Cadian' gear is meant to be the 'standard' gear) tried to take it back. Hence they had to storm Imperial Defences. The bodies were left there because who the hell wants to clean up that mess? Now a battle is raging there again.

Not that I wouldn't prefer it without them - even adding them as optional extras to place would have been better. It doesn't make me like the set any less, only the price does. Might have to order one of these from the US.

Oversized and impractical is what 40k is all about. Also, these will be plastic. Every other GW terrain kit, barring the aforementioned barricades, has been plastic.

One thing I don't think many people are realizing is that most IG players will have no use for this. I can tell you right now that i could MAYBE fit a a single platoon in this trenchline with proper spacing, and that's counting the bunkers, at least based on what has been said to be included in the kit.

Then, anything behind these lines will not be able to see over it or shoot. AKA your heavy weapons, other infantry, etc. will be useless. Tanks will be ok, but all the other infantry you bought will probably have to stand in front of it in order to do anything (guess we knows where the piles of guardsmen came from)

So the one army that would LOVE to have this, has no use for it?!!?!? What the hell GW?

*Also, the pile of dead dudes is a bit overkill, as is the 300 and 50 billion skulls on everything ever. I'd probably just measure the dimensions and make my own. I love the idea they have, and at first glance, it looks awesome. But then you see the stacks of guardsmen armor, and where they took the walls, dipped them in glue, and rolled them around in a box full of skulls for a few minutes, and you really don't want them anymore. Shame, my store will probably get one though, and I'll try to use it for fun games at least.

I Like these terrain pieces, I am only worried that I won't be able to afford them. Hopefully there is a smaller $40-$50 kit as opposed to the massive launch bundle.

There's been other resin pieces, like the Chapel of Sanctuary, which even came pre-painted.

Its definitley plastic. And judging by the photos, the piles of dead guardsmen arent too bad..its mostly some skulls ( surprise! ) some bits of armour, helmets etc and equipment covered by rubble....there are no ummm..fresh corpses to speak of. The sections will accomodate 10 20mm bases and the larger sections have room for your guard heavy weapons. And I find it a little bit funny that people are saying that they dont look like trenches. From the WD article they were never meant to be trenches, I think that some people got excited by the pics in the CSM codex and other peoples descriptions of this piece as trenches. Personally I like it, but not at the ridiculous overinflated price that GW are charging for it in Australia!

Yeah, this is definitely better than the old FW trench system (link), and I can't wait to spend an obscene amount of money on it...

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
