My god that looks gak...
Warmill's fortress kits are infinitely better looking and more versatile. Also undoubtedly cheaper too.
And as they are reasonably plain, they can be pimped out easily. Hell, they even sell a couple of different frontages for it.

Warmill terrain looks really good... for making the fort from Starship Troopers. Unfortunately, I think it really lacks that 40k flavor, which this new GW kit has in spades.
That being said, I'm pretty sure I won't be buying either. I'll be interested to see what the rules are like, though. Right now it kind of looks like a piece designed to cluster your forces into "hope the other guy didn't bring blasts or templates!" formation.

So more terrain that only fits the Imperial's and Chaos? Covered in skulls and dead bodies? That can't be removed!
Great.

I can more easily see the Warmill kit in a 40K setting than the rubbish GW has put out
A lot of the modern GW kits really don't fit in with what I think of as the aesthetic of the 40K universe. The hugely chunky, over-inflated walls and bunkers with skulls everywhere? Not really doing it for me. Like lots of their newer stuff it looks like a cheap toy rather than something from the field of a universe at war.

GW goes overboard on the skulls, but their stuff does have a lot of gothic architecture trademarks, and that's how 40k is always depicted. Warmills stuff is generic sci fi - not that I'm belittling it, but it really doesn't fit GW if you are sticking to canon imagery. Warmills terrain is a great fit for a lot of sci fi games, 40k just isn't one of them, at least aesthetically.

In the european WD it states that "these products will be available for preorder today and available on November 3."
But can't seem to find the Wall of Martyrs anywhere. Any word on when it will actually be available for preorder, and if it will be direct-only?
And where did people get the "while stock last" idea from? Can't see it in the WD.
Cheers

I live just down the road from a number of excellent examples of gothic architecture - I know what it looks like. My point was more that GW's trench system as shown above looks like someone has pumped it full of air - it is almost a chibi parody of gothic terrain with skulls on. It looks like a cheap toy. That is my problem with it.
Warmill (and indeed other companies producing similar kits) may be generic, but it looks like it actually belongs in the threatre of war, and because it is plain, you can add on as many gothic elements as you want to make it "fit in" more with the gothic feel of 40k.

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal. |

Hmm, GW seems to have done a pretty basic paintjob on this set. Wonder how hard it would be to chop away the guardsmen piled all around the front? It might be easier to pile rubble over it or something...

I figure the dead Cadians were just another way to get more skulls on to the model without actually having to add them to the fortification itself.
Overall it's pretty cool, but if I pick it up, the Dremmel will have to come out for some Cadian removal.

The space where the models sit is big enough to fit an IG gun with the dreadnought sized base so it is pretty big according to WD. It looks good and comes with lots of peices, but I Wish it was a tad cheaper. I also wish they would sell the parts individually. No rules for it yet, and it honestly does not need then since you would play as 3-4+ cover in trench and inside and on top of bunker would be as described in the MRB. It is kinda big imo to incorperate it in a 6x8 standard mission unless the mission was set around the piece.

Ah ok. Thanks mate.
Seems weird that the WD mentions the release date as "already ready for preorder" and mentions nothing about the limited availability, but the pamphlet mentions "while stock lasts" and the internet can now inform me that it isn't even availably before the 10th...
Gotta say, WD is usually more correct in their adverts than this time around

Could just be the collection, and they will start selling the bunkers, the "trenches" and the connectors seperately later on. Like they did with the "Imperial Sector" which was the three building boxes combined into one.

I actually like this a lot. Some of the details (or lack thereof, in the case of the parts circled in yellow) need some covering up, and I've got the leftover Imperial bitz to do that. The actual defense line is very cool overall though, and fits the 40k aesthetic perfectly. I'm always happy to get more terrain!

The skulls everywhere don't annoy me much but I honestly think they should have spiced things up a bit; Cadians here, Marines there, Ork skulls among Termagaunts.
Is that a Necron arm beside that Sabat Helm?
Really make it look like everyone and their robodog has been and died there.
Just Cadians everywhere just looks samy and boring. Smacks heavily of laziness.

They missed an opportunity by moulding the dead Cadians onto the walls. Not only would it let you vary the placement and quantity with more detailed corpses, GW could also have bundled a sprue or two with a box of Cadians as a special Halloween offer and a teaser for the full release.

"Hey guys, everyone seems to like the Aegis defense line. Lets skyrocket the price, make it bigger, more cumbersome, and more limiting into fitting troops into it. They'll love it!"
Seriously though, no thanks GW. I can't see any reason I'd like to space out my horde army to fill that up, and anyone with armies elite enough to not need spacing won't need that much fortification.
Unless it provides a 2+ invuln save, and comes with a battleforce of my choosing, I don't think so, GW.
This kinda seems like something for FLGS' to pick up.
