I'm having a party (we're all nerds, so yeah.)
I'm wondering. Is Super Dungeon Explore a party-friendly-game?
Like can you pick up and play, or is it more of a D&D decide on rules for hours kind of thing?
I get my box in this Friday for the party the weekend of the 17th.
I'd appreciate any feedback or pick-up suggestions. Thanks!

As long as the "DM" knows the rules, and can explain the basics easily... SDE is very much a party game... Note: You will have to assemble the models before you pick up and play...

Pick up and play. Monsters and Heros are stated out on cards, only why to change them is with loot found playing the game (yes the monstersget a loot card at a point in the game that effects them all the monsters).
Edit: Alfndrate is right the model do put a hitch in the pick up[ and play part, but once that over games start in like 5-10 minutes.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor. |

Sweet! Well I'll be the DM and I've got a week to assemble/learn, and I'm pretty darn good at learning rules quick (I was the the 8th ed. fantasy and 6th ed. 40k rules guru in my area as I love to read rules, lol) so I shouldn't have a problem. Thanks all . Just wanted to make sure it was suited for that sort of environment, and wasn't a multi-week, hardcore RPG hiding under a cute mask.

Pretty much the DM has to know how things work, the rest can learn how to play their hero pretty easily.
The rulebook is very thin, and about 5 of the pages are explaining the 'template' effects which are pretty self explanatory.
The only thing is that an experienced DM has an advantage over newb heroes and can really murder them. So if you plan to play as the DM you may need to temper your play until they 'figure it out' and once they figure it out, it works remarkably well allowing the DM to go all out.
Model Assembly is not too bad, but cleaning mold lines and sprue attach points is a lot of effort. (if you care about future painting)
Good luck! SDE is fun.

There's a lot of rules, but they are relatively simple. Just don't be worried about doing everything exactly right the first time and things should go gravy. It's more about smashing monsters and throwing around sparkle bursts than exactly following all of the rules perfectly.
As long as the GM has the 'gist' of the game, it is very much a "lets-start-rolling-dice" type of game. You can really learn it best through playing.

I'd strongly suggest getting in some play test games. I also believe there is an online FAQ for the game, too. The rulebook that comes with the game is written such that you'd think English wasn't their first language; there are some things that really will not be very clear the first time you read it.

Be nice when you summon the dragon. I was DMing and a cocky player led to a quickly charbroiled party.

Yeah, the guy running the show has to learn the rules first. Don't try to "learn as you play". It... doesn't work. Trust me.
Zombicide on the other hand, that takes about 3 seconds to learn, so that could work.

Zombicide on the other hand, that takes about 3 seconds to learn, so that could work. I found learning as you play SDE works just fine, even with people who aren't miniature gamers. You don't have to get everything just right the first couple of plays. All things considered, the game is pretty loose anyway. Red dice, blue dice, green dice. Number, color, count the stars. You beat the monster, you kill the monster. Bad guy spawns more monsters. Anybody can use a potion anytime. Anytime anyone finds loot anyone in the party can take it. The rules are a bit more complicated than that, but seriously, you don't need to know the ins and outs of party dynamics to play through SDE and learn the rules. Who cares if you all get eaten by a dragon the first time out. At least now you know the rules and you can play again right away. The game doesn't take 6 hours.

SDE is a lot of fun.
The biggest part of it is assembly. Other than that, it's a really easy to pick up and play.
Some tips:
Take the Paladin, Fighter, Druid, Fire Wizard, and Rogue.
-Have the party stay around the Paladin who will cast a spell to give everyone more armour.
-Give the druid a ton of offensive gear and use his bear form to plug holes.
-The fighter and wizard are highly intuitive.
-The rogue is really fun for pop and drops with her potion.

Sounds like the WoW-system of parties, which we've all played together. We've also all played D&D, (or most have) so they're experienced. I just didn't want to sit down expecting something quick and easy and be sitting at a new D&D system, lol.
Really appreciate the comments and help everyone, I'll let y'all know how it goes after the 17th.

I like the Archer over the fighter. First turn Sparkle Burst with Potion, the Spawn Point. Then Rouge Potion next to the Spawn Point, hit for 2 point of damage, move towards Treasure Box. End turn one a Spawn Point down and 1-2 Loot.
