is it just me or do any other gamer's think that games workshop prices are just getting way over the top thees days ?
its getting to the point now that i have almost stopped buying stuff n have to think long n hard before forking out money for new stuff .
even the local model shop where i use to pop into to buy new stuff from has now stopped selling there products as they were getting so greedy with the amounts of stock he had to buy at any one time .
i wonder how long it will be before it all come's crashing down around them due to greed and pricing buyers out of being able to afford the products !!!!

Prices should be higher. I'm not a fan of poor people doing something that I do.

But that's just my opinion.

They are high but the quality is actually very good in comparison to many other brands.

Armies can be made on the cheap though and re-using models is another viable option. At the end of the day it's down to each person and what they are willing to spend.

I heard from my FLGS that prices increase about every year or so. That seems about right too from a consumer standpoint. I also heard something about GW is catering to a higher class so they'll never drop prices. Take that with a huge grain of salt obviously. It sucks...but I love the hobby too much to quit. We have a great gaming community out here. I just can't buy as much as often as I would like.

Yeah i do agree that there products are fantastic just hope that they don't hike the price of them way to high .
And end up loosing loyal buyers of there products due to over pricing !
Plus if they get to high it will put those wanting to start gaming off which would be a shame if it got to that point .

I used to buy a box a month.
Then it was a box every three months, then 6, then it was maybe one box a year.

Now, I don't buy any GW product new. I scour second hand markets for cheap, badly painted older metal models that I can strip and reuse.

Honestly bro, I don't know how you could even say this with a straight face. With GW, you pay for the mold, not the model. and 10-15 years ago, when plastics were still kinda iffy, and GW relied much heavier on Pewter, I'd agree with price hikes. Pewter tears apart molds.

But with the innovations in materials and molds that GW has gotten their hands on, their molds are lasting many more times longer than they used to. They keep the prices hikes going because they can get away with it. They could slash their retail price in half, now a days, and still make over a 100% profit. So these price hikes we all hate, are out of greed, not necessity.

Don't get me wrong, I am glad GW isn't bankrupt, and I understand how production and retail works, but GW's prices are way too high, and there is no understandable reason beside the fact they know they can make more profit.

Great, this thread again...

Yes they are expensive. If you find old compare the prices. In terms of buying power, its has actually followed inflation and the economy. If you like the game, you'll find the money.

P.S. for your next topic, make your subject line relevant to your discussion, not just a vague line to trap innocent people into reading something like this...

These days, the markets for both Sci Fi and Fantasy miniatures are so saturated that the addage 'vote with your wallet' is incredibly easy to do. Don't want to pay GW's prices for Cadians? Buy Mantic Corporation figs. Don't think GW's Chaos Warriors are up to par for their price? Buy Avatas of War Warriors of Apocalypse instead. Don't think GW's Daemonettes are any good (I don't blame you)? Buy Raging Heroes Preying Mantis warriors. If you think something GW sells is worth the cost for the sculpt? Buy the GW sculpt. Sure, there's some stuff it's hard to find alternatives for. Full Space Marine kits, tanks, Tyranids, etc. It's hard finding alternates for the whole army (though Trollforged is doing an admirable job with Tyranids). But you can still get creative and go 'counts as'. Use Mantic Space Dwarves for Space Marines, for example.

Something you don't need to worry about anymore either is the whole 'official GW only' warning. With GW now shrinking stores down so only demo tables are available, and dropping support for official tournaments, there's no reason at all anymore to go with GW miniatures if you don't want to. GW might not think the rest of the wargaming hobby exists, but that doesn't mean you have to ignore it.

GW products are of very high quality compared to other companies out there. Their plastic sculpts are second to none.

Plus its easy to get discounts if you know where to look.

The unfortunate thing is that newcomers to the hobby typically won't know where to look for deals, or even that they exist.

So sadly the hobby isn't very attractive to school aged children with a $5 weekly allowance, who are GWs main target.

And honestly, GW has nevef really been a budget game. It has also maintained a high level of quality pretty much from the beginning.

Its every year. I think June is increase month, pretty much an up to 10% increase. Battle for Macragge was around $100NZ, Assault on Black Reach was $135, Dark Vengeance is $210. Codex Books have gone from $40ish, to $65,now the new Chaos codex is $100.

Game buy in is around $500NZ.

I used to work for a store that stocked gw goods for the same price as a gw outlet and I went into their database and found out what the profit margin they were making was and I can tell you it is now just shy of 100%. That does not take into account the profit gw makes before they are sold to the third party as well so considering most are sold from their own outlets or online the profit they get to see is even higher. Now i know that has to cover overheads etc but seriously they are thieves. I dont foresee them entering into a more balanced pricing strategy because money comes first with them and they've obviously done their maths and worked out that their price elasticity is at optimum with regard to their market- that is adults with money and kids who have nothing else to spend it on cos they're too young to go out and too geeky to have a girlfriend to burn money on.

I agree with that if they dropped there prices a bit people would buy more products more often and that means more turn over and just as much profit if not more . I do think that they are driven by just pure greed thees days .

Yes I disagree, it should be more acsessible to people who have lower incomes so that we can grow our community, but I'm not saying all the bums and delinquints need to ruin the game though. Don't be such an elitist

GW products are definitely priced a premium level to set them apart from the other games.

There's some thought that says that they can make more money if they dropped prices by increasing volume, but at the same time, they may not want to do that. It may be about brand protection.

Who really knows? I mean, ultimately they are chasing the most profitable model (long term), one would assume.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

I make over 25 grand a year in my job but still cringe at the price of some of GW stuff.
I don't mind paying for quality products but that don't mean that i want my trousers pulling down tho . even there paints are starting to be a con now days the old pots had a good amount of paint in them for the money but the new one's are smaller over all and they are just over half full im thinking rip off for £2.50 each or what ever they are now. And that new full paint set that they are doing now OMG how much you would need a bank loan for that !!!!

Just keep thinking that. Finecrap is a piece of gak, Infinity, Studio McVey etc. dump all over a lot of GW sculpts. Forgeworld's resin is poor quality compared to other companies. PP's metals are so much better in casting quality and not full of flash and mould lines. GW's plastics can be good, but they canalso be glaringly crap. Case in point the Dwarf Warriors and Black Orcs; both of which have massive blank spots of missing detail on them. Of course the whole thing of aesthetics is somewhat subjective but frankly a lot of GW's recent models looks a lot like something you'd find in Toys'R'Us.
