I much prefer playing at the FLGS. I dig the social aspect of it. I often won't even end up playing any games and just hang out and watch games.

Well said and a nice way of putting into words a bit of the different dynamic that home-gaming has compared to FLGS gaming. Not that FLGS gaming can't lead to great friendships, but gaming at home does have a certain something...

There's also the added plus, that from my experience, rules arguments are much more civil in a home setting. I don't think it's the whole "I'm in someone else's house, and I don't want to be kicked out" but more a "hey, there's no sidebar group watching us, so we can figure this out at our own pace, have a beer and get the game rolling again"

Its also nice to be able to get up and leave to go get food without having to station a guard so stuff doesnt get stolen. Everyone can leave and when they get back everythings still exactly where it was left.

Having done both in store gaming and home gaming I prefer home by far. I find in store gaming is fun for demos and such, but thats about all.

I played a game at my house last night. It was nice to have a beer, flip on the TV to check the score, get back to the game, and take our time. No minis were lost to my cat, fortunately.

I actually would like to say the store since my FLGS is down the street from my apartment, But they Hate on anything non-painted and indirectly make you feel bad for bringin in primed models, especialy if you win. The "experience" is what i am looking for at the store though, playing different armies, Different terrain, being social etc...

Also 75% of the time its 15 yr olds and under im my FLGS... Im 23, only about a yr into the hobby and only know 2 people (personally) that play. Im Trying to meet more people that play maybe make regular opponents, just not with 15yrs n younger. i have a hard enough time justifying this hobby as is, let alone start playing with younglings haha ( i know im stil young ) Needless to say i still only have 2 regular opponents lol ( both play ork )

At home games are great becauseplus i enjoy my terrain setup as do my friends, but only have 2 opponents if i play at home, they also cant play as often as id like Though. I guess thats life. plus Beer, Tea, Food etc.. The only downside to home is i live in apartment, so if i want to play i have to setup and disassemble, which can be time consuming in itself.

I really detest attitudes like this. This is one of the reasons I simply don't ever go to one of the gaming stores in my area. I got the stink eye too many times for not having a fully painted army.

I understand people who want to play against a fully painted army. I get it. But there is a big difference between encouraging people to paint and ostracizing people who want to play with unpainted miniatures. It is bad for the hobby as a whole because it frankly discourages participation.

How hard would it be to approach someone whose models are not painted and talk about painting in a friendly way and, God forbid, offer help and encouragement? If you aren't too keen on painting, I can show you some really fast techniques that would get your models to a 3 color standard in an afternoon. If you like, bring your models over to my place and I will base coat them with my airbrush. You seem to do great conversions. How about you do some conversions for me and I will paint some of your models. How hard is that?

I completely understand people who feel that painting is an important part of the hobby. But if someone feels that way, it is far more productive to help and positively encourage others to meet your personal standard than to criticize them for not meeting it.

Being only in the game for a year, how do i know what my troops,vehicles will have indefinatly? ( not to mention GW never includes all IG upgrades EX: plasma/meltas, unless your willing to spend the $$$ to get em and i hate the metal SM ones )
I dont mind Spot gluing on the pieces i want to use for that game so atleast its still WYSIWYG.
I understand hating on proxies, 1 or 2 i dont mind, but proxying a whole squad or non similar vehicle is a different story.
In my eyes atleast ive spent the money on the appropriate model, spent the time to assemble, and will be painting shortly as im new to that aswell, not to mention being a perfectionist.

Another thing i noticed about some of the stores lately is, its not so much a "Friendly" Local gaming store as its more of a Local Gaming Store. Untill im at the register, Wallet in hand.

If i showed up every week and my army never got painted, maybe i could justify some Hate, But otherwise....

Hey! EVEN the local pressganger derides his flock and THEY eat it up. If I called the local 40k players "uneducated and ignorant muppets who would buy anything with a GW logo" I'd probably be lambasted (but I'd still be right ... )

I like to play with myself so naturally i prefer to do it at home.
