I hope this hasn't already been posted, I had a quick scan down the page and didn't see anything so here we go.

It appears as though Sega and Creative assembly have partnered with Games Workshop with a view to produce future games.

Here's the link http://www.creative-assembly.com/sega-and-creative-assembly-announce-partnership-with-games-workshop-to-create-warhammer-games/

In fact, having thought about this a bit more this could be the wrong forum, not sure if it belongs here or Dakka discussions. If this is the wrong forum could a mod please move this. Thanks in advance.

SEGA and Creative Assembly Announce Partnership with Games Workshop to Create Warhammer Games

SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON – 11AM GMT, December 6, 2012 – SEGA® of America, Inc. and SEGA® Europe Ltd. today announced that Creative Assembly™, award-winning creator of the Total War™ series, and SEGA® Group have entered into a multi-title licensing deal with Games Workshop® to create videogames based in the Warhammer® universe of fantasy battles.

A new high-calibre development team has been set up at Creative Assembly’s UK studio to work alongside the existing Total War, Alien™ IP and Mobile teams on the first Warhammer title in the deal, scheduled to launch from beyond 2013.

“With this year being our 25th anniversary”, said Tim Heaton, Studio Director at Creative Assembly, “it seems fitting for us to embark on such a dream project with such a well-established partner. The incredibly rich and detailed Warhammer world is something we grew up with, and has left an indelible imprint on us as both designers and gamers.”

“We’ll be doing the Warhammer universe justice in a way that has never been attempted before. We’re bringing those 25 years of experience and expertise in extremely high-scoring games to bear, delivering a Warhammer experience that videogamers will absolutely love.”

“We have enormous respect for SEGA and Creative Assembly and have felt for a long time that the combination of the enormously rich setting of the Warhammer world, and their stunning development talent is a match with huge potential,” said Jon Gillard, Games Workshop’s Head of Licensing. “Now that we’ve managed to bring these two giants of gaming together it is safe to say that some truly amazing products are going to be unleashed as a result. We are excited at the possibilities, and are enthusiastically working with the team at Creative Assembly already.”

This first Warhammer game joins the eagerly-awaited Total War™: Rome II and the untitled Alien IP as one of five projects currently in production at Creative Assembly, now one of the largest developers in Europe.

Does this mean that Relic cannon't make anymore Warhammer 40K games because of the financial troubles with their publisher THQ? In that case I'm very sad. If both Relic and Creative Assembly get to make Warhammer games (fantasy or 40K), then I'd be much more happy.

Total War-hammer would work
I've thought some a proper large scale RTS game for warhammer has been needed for a while now. Soemthing with a galaxy map, all the races, all the options. Essentially just a huge animated version of what we play on the board. That is the sort of game that could lure people into the hobby itself.

Especially if they build in a really versitile army painter.....

This gives me ambivalent feelings. As far back as Rome: Total War, the Total War games have had mechanics that keep track of a staggering variety of factors in resolving each conflict. And the result tends to be games with excellent strategic depth. Pairing them up with GW means they will either create games where that strategic depth is gutted in order to create a "Warhammer" feel, or they will create a game that is superior to the table-top game in every way.

It puts me in mind of little boy Timmy getting the engineers at Porche to assemble his plastic model for the county fair 4-H exhibition.

Actually, there's Rome: total war 2 in the works, the last one was fantastic. There's already a trailer out for it.

They are going to make an fps. The player is a guardsman fighting in armageddon. You unlock new weapons like boltgun, missilelaucher and portable railgun, gain new level and perks like stomping power, ninja and terminator armor. You get to fight with famous characters like Ghashzgull, Wazdakka, Shadowsun and Horus.

If you preorder you get a combined pack of all day 1 dlc 10% off.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

No, no, no. A 5% discount on on-disc DLC.

Far more reasonable.

Jesus, the gods have truly rewarded us, my favourite fantasy universe being brught to life by an awesome company. Just.....damn, literally cant describe my feelings.
Look at the rome 2 graphics and now have warhammer mate with it. What games do you think we will get. I can see total warhammer (loved that mod for mtw 2) but I would love to see an open world/rpg type game as in explore some cities and engage in huge wars whilst customising your character.

Come on CA I have planetside 2 as my sci fi dream game, give me a huge war in warhammer fanatasy and I can die happy

edit: Someone suggested a warhammer version of spartan total warrior...yes......yyyeeesss.......YES

Apparently some people don't realise the difference between Age of Empires and Total War.

I might actually buy a Warhammer Fantasy total war game. I have never been interested in WFB until now.

The Total War games are my favorite game series (own all of them, actually still playing Empire: Total War's grand campaign again), so a Warhammer: Total War game sounds like it could be great.

I agree that some people don't seem to recognize the difference.

I am incrdibly excited for this now! I've ALWAYS loved Total War and I love the whole Warhammer Universe! I could see several great games coming out of this I think they'd probably do Fantasy over 40k at this point since it would be more feasible and close to their current mechanics. But depending on what rights they got to what games we could see Warhammer: Total War, Total War: 40,000, and possibly they could delve into the smaller lesser known games like Necromunda, Gorka Morka, and maybe a new Blood Bowl? Just wish listing

@BrookM - All of the Total War games have had a "quick battles" type function that you just pick your units (each costing money/points) and then play against an equal enemy team that you can customize if you want.

(although it sounds like it would largely be a new team doing the programing at least they have a solid leadership)

I think they will throw a curve ball out first with Warhammer: Total Fantasy - an erotic gaming adventure in the Old World.

......Or more likely more of the same with their own versions of DoW.

I'll wish list an Epic Armageddon/final liberation game or +1 to dark omen though.

Also, this is mainly concerning the FANTASY licence, which was held by a company not owned by THQ, whom holds the 40k gaming licence.

I'd be willing to bet that they've only been given Warhammer, which means that Electronic Arts now don't.

Yes, the 40k and fantasy licences have been split up by GW ages ago, which was a great move if you ask me, just look at what Relic has done with the 40k licence.

Yeah, I could totally see them doing Warhammer Total War. I would definately buy it, though for some reason none of the Warhammer Mods for Total War games have really peaked my interest, not sure why.

It would be really interesting to see how they would do magic though.

I like it..... Slaaneshi strip poker, win three hands and just wait and see what this hot dame can do with her crab hand and 3 fannies!

The news is good as far as I'm concerned, I love video games, play 10-15 hours a week.. they don't make anywhere near enough as far as I'm concerned. Sales always seem decent, I figured they would have started kicking the arse out of GWs IP many moons ago.. Its a licence to print money surely?!

Anyway yeah, RP, RTS, FPS, TBS, its all good for me, I think the whole WH universe is excellent grounds for video games.

Imagine a 40k Skyrim with a gak load of planets and a heavy bolter to chew the galaxy up with.. It would be fething quality.

That reminds me, has that Dark Millennium thing been totally wrapped on now? Last I heard of it was a trailer about 2 years ago...

I agree with mattyrm, whatever style of game we get, its the warhammer universe and its seems like they will know their stuff, they wont be people who are just reading the army books now. I have faith that we will get to see this universe in a truly glorious fashion. As long as it's not a TCG
