Most people that have read my posts or have seen my images are aware that I am creating a sanguine army, but I need some help or even ideas to keep my creative juices flowing.

As we all know the Angels Sanguine are very secretive and keep their faces covered at all times but here is the question WHY???

Are they like Jawa's on steroids who sneak up on their prey and at the last minute use their jetpacks to jump out screaming Booteeeney?

Do they just have shining evil eye's, do they have extreme vampire features or are they just extremely vein even more so than the normal Blood Angel?

I have ordered a number of different head types to apply to my army these range from fully hooded to face mask etc.. but I want to know what you guys think.

There are so many resources we can use on the web to create the ideal look and feel for our army's so please help me with mine and post your ideas, any pictures you think would fit also if you have your own sanguine army direct me to your images and perhaps we can help each other.

It would also be cool if we could create a better and more Detailed background story for these guys, they look awesome and deserve a good back history to match Flesh Tearers

I know that there is the theory that they remain hooded all the time because they have a strong vampiric look about them although that would not explain why they remain hooded in each others presence even in private.

Did you check lexicanum?

Lexicanum is only gives limited info, there are some books with more info so good to see what people think. Would be good if people have made images

Also don't expect any hard answers. Best ideas I've heard are that their faces are hideously vampiric, like Nosferatu style, or they all have the same face of Sanguinus and don't want people thinking they're clones, or that they're a little niggling GW hook that will never be fleshed out.

They hide the fact they are mutant heretics to avoid Exterminatus. But they will get it soon enough, yes they will.

If they are mutated, then they are like the Soul Drinkers, Death to the Imperium and their corruption, Long live the Emporer and the Sanguine (not sure the Blood Angels would approve but they are to busy making boy bands with their pretty boy warriors)

I started my Angels Sanguine earlier this year and have roughly 1200 pts. I've often wondered and made up ideas as to why they hide their faces, as really the whole idea is to give them a mysterious vibe and another gift for the fans to play with - they're never gunna tell us. I eventually settled with it being a penance thing. Either they are faceless champions not in it for the glory, they are only an extension of the Emperor's will, or (my theory) that grimdark secret they have hidden beneath their Fortress Monastery causes them to hide their features out of shame or the paranoid belief that someone may gleam the secret in their eyes (not a superstition they necessarily believe, but more a custom. (Plus with psykers and the Inquisition about you can never be too careful...)

I dunno, that idea just saves me worrying about modelling and picturing random mutations

They are simply self concious, failing that their calendars are stuck on October 31st.

I actually thought it was as mentioned by Biaz, a Penance type thing where they do not strive for personal glory etc they are simply an extension of the emperors will. Although I can't remember why/what I based that on.... I think I've read something with the Sanguine in it before.... although it could have been fan fiction. Possibly :S

There was some short story by... C.S. Goto, I think? (Don't worry, it wasn't as bad as some of his other stuff.) That might be what you're thinking of, its free to read somewhere here on the interwebz if you can track it down.

Thats the one. I noticed the characters spend a lot of time without their helmets on, and none of them are described as having any defining facial features worth concealing. The Inquisitor also doesn't seem shocked when he see's the chaplain without his helmet, but perhaps he'd seen Ashok's face before.

So you can take that how you like, perhaps it is a more custom/penance thing. Or you can just choose to disregard it, Goto is known for screwing up the fluff

I'm going to give my guys some hoods, the death company on the other hand don't give a rats arse about keeping their helmet on. All they want to do is rip the enemy apart and what better way than with bolter, blade and then the teeth grrrrrr
