Alpha Legion is in the Dawn of War series. Most of the other books or stories are Heresy era. Legion, Serpent Beneath and Faces of Treachery I think.

The Night Lord Trilogy by Aaron Dembski-Bowden is my pick.

The three books are:

1. Soul Hunter
2. Blood Reaver
3. Void Stalker

By the 37 keys of Tzeentch,We open the way for our brothers,
By the 1000 whispers of Slaanesh we call to them,
By the 12 plagues of Nurgle we fell their enemies,
And by the mighty axe of Khorne we cut open the world for them!

I'll second the suggestion of the Night Lords trilogy. They're just well-written books, as well as great fiction for Chaos Space Marines.

Graham McNeill's Iron Warriors omnibus isn't quite to the level of the NL trilogy, but it's fun. It has the Storm of Iron novel and other goodies.

Night Lords Trilogy far and above are the best. Storm of Iron probably after that. McNeil often fumbles but he got it right there. Avoid its sequels though.

Are not Chaos. One of them is BT and the other is IG.

On topic I second the Night Lords, those books were amazing.

This.

Or some of the HH novels, such as The First Heretic, but these aren't true Chaos yet IMHO.

Enlist as a virtual Ultramarine! Click here for my Chaos Gate (PC) thread.

"It is the great irony of the Legiones Astartes: engineered to kill to achieve a victory of peace that they can then be no part of."

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

I read the Iron Warrior Omnibus after the Whole Ultramarine series and just loved them all since I got both sides of the whole scheme of things. Lord of Night is another good NL book. Blood Gorgons is a good one I recently finished.

+1 for lord of the night.

Any heresy books are always good.

I really enjoyed Angel Exterminatus - More Iron Warriors. With many nods to Storm Of Iron

Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.

The Night Lord trillogy gets my vote. Void Stalker is a tad weak but still good.

It's not a straight up Chaos book, but Battle for the Fang has a fair amount of writing from the Thousand Sons' point of view.

Definitely enjoyed the Night Lords trilogy and Storm of Iron, and the Word Bearers Omnibus was EPIC. I also wanted to through down a vote for The Siege of Castellax. Orks lay siege to an Iron Warriors forge world. I'm about two thirds of the way through it and it's definitely been a very fun read. The lack of any Imperial perspective is refreshing

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."

I am currently reading it and it's pretty good. But it doesn't get as deep into the idea of being a Chaos Marine as some of the other books people have mentioned here. Will post a full review as/when.

Blood Gorgons is another one to look into.

Can you elaborate on that one a little bit? I've been tempted several times by it, but I keep holding off because the description makes it sound like it's going to be about one single Chaos Marine by himself on a recruiting world. Not sure if that's up my alley or not. I would love to hear more about it though if you have a second to describe it.

Sure. While there is a solo-mission type sequence throughout the middle section of the book, it's about more than one CSM. The Blood Gorgons are a fallen Cursed Founding chapter and it was interesting to look into their view of Chaos and the politics of their chapter.

FYI, It's about as good overall as Siege of Castellax but (IMO so far) Blood Gorgons never gets as good as the parts where Siege gets really good.
Spoiler:
Such as the scenes with Brother Merihem.
