a few comments ive heard this week from GW staff have been..... ''i'm getting very excited about seeing the new imperial guard units'' and ''cant wait for codex imperial gaurd to be finished''. i do know that my favourite 40k artist Jes Goodwyn has been working on imperial guard artwork and sketches for new models recently. might be a while before we see them but i'm hoping theres something completely new and not just a remake of cadians and catachans
via the Secret Squirrel from the Faeit 212 inbox
The imperial guard sketches are from "the gothic and the eldritch: the collected sketches of Jes Goodwin" which was published in 2001. The guard sketches themselves are from 1993 and there are more than just the 4 (although they're not in the book), some of which were used for the 2nd edition metal guard models.
All that said, you can't discount any old sketches as Jes also make concepts for high elf reavers back in 1992 which are almost exactly what is in the isle of blood box set.
Here are some of those pics

IG shouldnt even be on the radar right now. I would like to collect them soon (after my Nids are competant) but it would be extremely irresponsible of GW to mess with them without addressing other armys first.

Well, than again, IG and Nids were, I believe, the only books aside from Space Marines that (pre-6th) were on a "updated every edition" heavy rotation, while most others only got an update ever 2 editions or so.

But they've got a new plastic flyer kit and some new plastic tanks to sell. As good a reason as any to completely re-do an army.

Also, given GW's history of holding onto finished product for extended periods of time, it could be the IG are intended to be released in 2014 if he's working on them "recently". That would likely mean 2-5 40k armies getting updated between now and then, depending on if they aim for early 2014 or late. If they're doing a new "range" of IG, that timeframe doesn't seem terribly outlandish based on how GW has operated in the past.

I don't doubt other armies need the work more for their own playability, but the IG 'dex could use a lot of work too so it's not so reliant on several units and isn't so annoying to face with certain lists. The majority of elites and fast attack could use a lot of tuning so more than just the one unit is worth taking.
Once the flyers start to level off in sales they can release a new codex with the nerfed flyers, with beefy ogryns and rough riders.

The same thing that could be said of Tau and Necrons then? After all, they were pulled out of nowhere and weren't part of the original game, so they clearly don't deserve their own books. Tau can just play counts-as Eldar or Imperial Guard anyway.

Really? IG? Heh, we don't even have kits for all of our units yet (that is, if you don't want to shell out bookoo bucks for them from FW). As somebody mentioned earlier, more likely than not, the models, rules, artwork, etc. are being worked on and put in the pipeline for a future release.
Really, though, IG is still highly competitive, and has some of the most broken lists in the game now (did somebody say Vendetta spam?).

The army that you're implying deserves a book has nothing to set it apart except for "hurr we put scouts in with our regular doodz". Nice try though. Also your army wasn't part of the "original game" either so that's a further strike.

Ooooo, can I make pointless arguments too? They shouldn't have updated or ever made Blood Angels cuz they're the same as SM in every way except they like blood! Dark Angels might as well be rolled into the main book cuz only difference is Belial and Sammael.
Now, grown up moment: These books have followings, same as Black Templars. You don't like it? Who cares. Black Templars play more differently from all other Power Armored codexes, except for maybe Space Wolves. They won't allow you to play with psyker allies (except GK), the Neophytes and Initiates are a mixed unit, they allow you to horde up, and when they get shot, they bum-rush the opposition instead of being able to make tactical retreats. Oh, and despite all chapters actually having their own EC, only the BT have him in their book. And when he came out, he was a true badass. Are these enough differences from the main book right now? No. But they were at the time, and I'm sure an update will give them more differences. So quit trolling.

And no Devastators or Whirlwinds. And not following the Codex Astartes. And so on and so forth. Give Veterans the Carapace Armour upgrade and you've got a shooty unit with BS4 and options like people always want in Tau threads.

If it doesn't count against Tau and Necrons, why does it count against Templars? Because it's cool to hate MEQ Codices? Wouldn't a much better solution be to differentiate the Black Templars Codex so that it isn't "the same as every other Marine Codex"?

Maybe it's just going to be a model wave release? A proper box of guardsmen in carapace armour or even an expansion of plastic Iron Guard, Tallarn or some other regiment.
Concept art looks cool enough to warrant some new kits without altering the book. Guard is one of the few armies which GW could release 6+ boxes for the same unit (Regular guardsmen) without writing new rules.
Then again, there could be an ally expansion, which could also be cool. But seeing many other GW releases over the years it could be anything.

Because 1. they're entirely different races with entirely different weaponry (pulse weapons aren't the same, gauss isn't even close to a lasgun) and you're just grasping at straws. And 2., the best solution would be to put them in a combined book that has all the "deviant" chapters of the Space Marines. Alternatively, have Forgeworld start producing Black Templar stuff. They do a good job with the Elysians and DKoK.

It is not me agreeing with you-did you miss the sentence afterwards? No, it's not enough anymore, but it WAS enough at the time. They're still more unique than Nipple Marines and Emo Marines. There was no agreement, you took PART of my comment out of context from the rest of it. And as for trolling, did you miss this previous comment you wrote: "hurr we put scouts in with our regular doodz"? You're setting out just to piss off the Templar lovers with comments like this. So yes, you are being a troll in this thread. To make a point about IG rumors so my post isn't deleted though, Vendettas need to be increased in points, rest of codex doesn't need anything. Hope these rumors are way down the line or non-existant.

In response to the Black Templar whining... Black Templar do need an update quite seriously, so if we're going to get an inevitable power armour Codex in the near future, make it them. And how would you feel if your army just up an disappeared from the game? No one likes to see their armies/units discounted (even if they're useless like Pariahs... anyone remember the Pariah whining when the new Necron dex came out?), so don't be a dick and say that they should because you don't like them.
Also, in their current state, Black Templars aren't all that unique. However, if they get an update I'm sure they can do some cool stuff with them.

If it does happen though, this is a good point - IG are a very strong dex atm (the strongest imho), but their internal balance is awful.
