As always, depends on your list. If you go with lots of armor, pred would add to saturation (oblits adds too, but IMO in lesser extent) and if you run non mechanized list, oblits wouldn't stick out so much as. Also, obliterators can be deep struck and that gives you some flexibility and if you have free slots in HS (I doubt that) you could run them 2x1 which is even more versatile.

Also, obits only pull ahead in firepower if you want the shorter ranged guns instead of las cannons, as you can't fire las two turns in a row so you may find yourself out of range. they only have 2 shots compared to 3 and can get locked in combat. Plus, they are weak to s8 without spending more points to mark them nurgle.

In summary, nurgle obits as close support tactical terminator stand ins are the most effective use of obits, leveraging all the gun types as well as those power fists. If you have a need for long range anti tank, then the predator is far superior, since the obits can only shoot every other turn.

I think all vehicles are trash now. Obliterators are more durable than a pred by a large margain. if you can squeeze them to be 3x and nurgle. The oblits can't be glanced out of the game by things that oblits will get a 2+ save. Have 6 pts of survivability vs 3, only fear str 10 weapons but bring the right weapon for the job.

I need to return some video tapes.

I think Oblits are pretty bleh in this codex unless you're infiltrating them (Via WL ability, etc) or DS'ing them. Their limited weapon usage vs limited range makes them fairly lackluster.

If you have other armor I'd take the pred, if you're light on army I'd take the Oblits.

Limited? Yes basically every gun over various ranges is very limited.

Allied Armored Battlegroup with an HQ Vanquisher with Beast Hunter shells, Lascannon, co-ax MG, and a troops Thunderer. You could probably drop some stuff to fit the Vanq, which is much better AT than the obliterators OR the annihilator. (and is ridiculously good against MCs)

Yes there is - in Imperial Armor Vol. 1 Second Edition the Siege Tank Squadron is actually entirely comprised of Thunderers and must be upgraded to Demolishers

Lascannon havocs are my new favorite heavy. Trying to load up on the models currently so I can run 3 units of them.

I want them to perform tank hunting from my deployment zone vs Mech IG.

T1 Lascannons.
T2 Can't use lascannons ... what else do we have with >24" range
