Sounds fun!

Well, my own army is an Imperial Guard regiment that was positioned on a planet sitting the edge of Tau space, known as "Tiberius". Tiberius is a large rock world with fairly high gravity, and two very large moons around the size of mercury are in its orbit, and a large imperial station orbits opposite of the planets rotation. On this planet, the moons, and the station, there are two imperial guard regiments, and a space marine chapter. One day, the Tau sent a diplomat to Tiberius, in hopes of converting the population to the Greater Good. Speaking with conviction, the diplomat convinced one of the regiments and around half of the Space Marines to join the Tau. Unfortunately, the second regiment, and the remaining Space Marines decided to stay with the empire. There was no conflict at first, but the tau supporting regiment, the 797th Cadian "Red Tigers" painted the words 'We Are Tau' on all their vehicles and armor as an insult to the Imperial Loyalists. Civil war immediately broke out, but the Tau rebels eventually won.

The victorious regiment, the Cadian 797th, turned the planet to Tau control, and joined the empire as Gue'seva.
That regiment happens to be my army.

They're colored with Gore Red flack armor, Ultramarine Blue cloth, and Golden Yellow for lining and the Tau symbols I have painted on the shoulder pads and tank armor.

Well, space marines been corrupted by chaos in massive numbers, and there is indication that Tau posses mind-control technology, so I honestly see no reason for the marines to be immune to the reason and logic behind Tau philosophy.

I don't buy the reason and logic behind the Tau, you can imagine the average Space Marine's happy reaction to them. They are zeno scum who shall be wiped from the surface of any planet in their view.

Yet the Tau happen to be the only race that the Imperium hasn't gotten around to mass attacking?
I must highlight that the Tau happen to have converted many imperial worlds to the greater good in the past, some even with SM Chapters on them.

My tau army's fluff is strait forward for the most part my shas'o dislikes the etherials and the etherials are iffy about him because he docent bend over backwards for them so he gets stuck with a expeditionary force.
With a small group of etherials watching over his shoulder ..... BUT the etherials tried to greet a new race they meet (tyrinids this is still iffy might do something else later on) confident that they could control them one thing lead to another and there all horribly horribly slaughtered.
except for the youngest one and shes allowed to stay with the understanding that this is the shas'O's command not hers . so little to no ethereal's in my army and a lot of allies as we contact more as we go along or absorb stray tau that have been pushed out or defeated by various enemy forces and a ton of kroot each one filling a different purpose and consume different races for improved ability's like ork eaters and such.
Beyond that im still working on it.

Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results.

There was, but that was the only big one. After that, the Tyranids attacked, the Imperium and the Tau fought side-by side, and the Tau wound up annexing a bunch of Regiments.

I actually have four armies who all share the same basis in fluff.

A Tau "Unified Corp" consisting of aux troops and pre-imperium humans recently discovered by the Tau empire.

A Ork army led by a Bloodaxe war boss with a perchant for historical simularities.

A crusade force consisting of the Marines Malevolent

and a very modern-ish IG force to support the MM above.

Worked them all together for sakes of modeling and terrain making, and just fun.

Junklord Gorosh, leading DA JUNKA BOYZ

During the First battle of Armegedon, Gorosh was the toughest Nob on the Krazy Deff, in charge of the boyz on the ramming deck. Krazy Deff was one of the first Deff Kruzzas in the lead attack, and one of the first casualties. Krazy Deff had gone to ramming speed when it exploded, sending the bow ram hurdling wildly into space. As chance has it, the ram slammed into a incredibly giant Rokk (an impressive mass of space flotsam.) All ork perished in the crash, all but Gorosh, the toughest of them. Gorosh pulled himself together from the wreckage, healing and rebuilding himself. He wandered DA HEAP collecting and building. The ork spores did their work, and soon DA HEAP became a thriving ork sub-world.

Junklord Gorosh is the unopposed lord of DA HEAP. Da Junka Boyz haven't had contact with other orks yet, and klanz haven't taken root yet on this relatively small ork population. Their clothes are random shades of leather ranging from khaki to black. Bright colored paint is rare, but is used on symbols and glyphes (especially red), but most metals are left dull and usually very rusty. The exception being motors are given extreme care and glisten bright silver.

Da Junka boyz are extreme hoarders, gathering as of the 'good junk' as possible. Their dwellings end up becoming giant piles. The bigger, tougher, meaner, or crazy the ork is, the bigger their pile. (somehow it escapes them that their entire 'world' is entirely made of junk) Lootas are very common. Meks are common as well since they have a practically unlimited supply of scrap parts. This resulted in Vehicles being common as well, only that they are even more ramshackle and junked together.

Junklord Gorosh has finally organized the meks, and they have gotten DA HEAP moving. Everywhere DA HEAP goes, Da Junka Boyz launch assaults on systems they pass. Their goal isn't to conquer, or even to destroy. Their one obsessive goal is to loot, and bring it back to DA HEAP for their own pile. After a victory, the battle scene is picked clean, and literally everything is taken.

Stealthy Dark Angels Scout with Shotgun

Being digested by a Tyranid.

my successor chapter is called the Order of the Lion/the Knights of Zion(I know, I know, I'm indecisive.)

the chapter is said to be descended from those who stayed loyal during the fall of Caliban, but whether this record is true has been lost to time. However they consider themselves personally responsible for the destruction of Caliban, and paint some parts of their armor red, signifying the blood of the slain. their symbol is the symbol of the order, which sometimes gets them into problem with the imperium, as it is mostly the symbol Dark Angels themselves wear.

the chapter is fleet based, with a capitol ship, "The Repentance" which generally stays near Piscina.

They specialize in fighting chaos, thus making them have a disadvantage against xenos compared to other chapters. They have been found wanting in several campaigns, usually from either engaging in 'honorable warfare' with the enemy, taking unnecessary casualties and expending needed resources, or from being ordered on a mission from their parent chapter, the Dark Angels, which leads them away from the battle. This has lead to them being close to extermination but they hope to win back their honor by way of a crusade, in penance of failing to stop a cult uprising in subsector Kalvanis.

Their chapter master is Alastor Zachariel, who was master of the chapters deathwing before becoming chapter master, and currently leads them into battle as his successor as master of the deathwing, Sar Castor, perished during battle in the fight for Kalvanis Prime.
Alastor's brother, Jophiel, is an interrogator-chaplain who hopes to one day step out of his older brother's shadow, and is well on his way to becoming a reclusiarch.

Their greatest ally is, somewhat ironically, the chapter their progenitor has a fierce rivalry with, The Space Wolves have fought together with the chapter many times, and appreciates their martial honor. when the two meet in battle, they usually try to outdo each other, while still aiding them if either shall be in trouble.

Generally it's based on knightly orders in medieval Europe, I tried to dumb down their backstory as I want to add victories to their list based on exceptionally fun/good games I have.
The space wolf stuff is for a friend i'm getting into the hobby, who likes space wolves, we plan on doing a lot of 2v2's and apoc matches (once he's got a good force going) so I felt like putting some camaraderie in there.

Any tips advice and/or criticism is appreciated.

Cheers.

The Emperor's Hounds.

I don't have much of a backstory for these chaps at the moment, but the concept is one I've been toying with for the past few months. They're based upon old English fox hunting meets;

- Hounds: The battle-brothers form packs of dogs essentially, equipped with chain weapons & bolt pistols, they romp around chasing/bearing down on their foe & ripping them asunder. Very strong sense of loyalty & utterly obedient even when in the midst of frenzied slaughter.
- Beaters: The scouts act as 'beaters', getting the 'prey' out of cover so that the Hounds can close on them and destroy them utterly. Squads of Devestators are also considered to be Beaters.
- Hunters: The best of the Hounds can rise to be Hunters, mounted on massive horses*. When the Hounds break the foe the Hunters move in for the final kill.
- Hunt Masters: The officers of the Chapter, also mounted on massive horses, lead & direct the pack, signalling their intent to the primative instincts of the Hounds with horns & bugles that can bring the Hounds to a frenzied state.
- Master of the Rolls: The Chapters chief Librarian.
- Lord of the Hunt - the Chapter Master.

*The strain of horse they use is native to their homeworld. It is related to the common horse but time & selective breeding have created an enormous mount that can carry an armoured Astartes all day & romp around at the gallop for long periods of time.

The Chapter does make use of Rhino's & has a couple of Land-Raiders but lacks Terminators, Dreadnaughts and Predators. They do have a large number of aircraft at their disposal.

They are not worth spending the time on, because there are things out in the galaxy that are far more dangerous. And Sm would never join the Tau because well...THEY ARE XENOS! Current Chapter Master: Grand Master Arn Magnusson.
Chapters Current Strength: Classified.

Currently the only chapter outside of the Unforgiven that knows of their dark secret, the Chapter serves the Imperium as an airbourne cavalry unit, launching their assaults from massed orbital drops via drop pod or deployed in 5 man kill teams via Thunderhawks/Storm Eagles. They often deploy alongside the Unforgiven in their hunt for the fallen, adding "shock and awe" tactics to the fray. .They are one of the only chapters to retain a sizeable quantity of pre-heresy wargear. Storm Eagles, MK IV maximus Armour, Tartorus Pattern Tactical Dreadnought Armour and in some cases, the venerable Phobos Pattern Bolter. The chapter keeps their armouries under extremely strict guard, not even allowing the Mechanicus to enter even the same ship sector. The Chapters 10 companies are all based upon Imperial Strike Cruisers, 1st company being based on the "Dreadnought" 4th company on the "Illustrious" and so on.

The Chapter is often at the forefront of most imperial campaigns, its companies spread thin across the galaxy searching for the remnants of the traitor legions. During the 13th Black Crusade the 5th Company launched many assaults against the traitors from drop pods onto the surface of Cadia and into the heart of the Chaos fleet on assault boats. The 2nd Company aboard the "Revenant" currently scour the Maelstrom for signs of the Red Corsairs and other traitor warbands. As of 999 M.41 the Ordo Hereticus is undertaking an enquiry into the unknown history of the chapter, as although their origins are unknown they are believed to be loyalist elements of the traior legions, seeking vengeance against their traitorous brethren and retribution for the fallen on Isstvan III. Currently they have been suspended from active service by the Inquisition. However this suspension will doubtlessly be broken and it has already been breached by the 4th company.

I play tau(beat me with soap and a sock why don't you?) w/ eldar allies.

I haven't come up with a name, but I've been thinking up a backstory.
Basically they are a force that was designed to guard diplomats/ethereals. a minor craftworld came out of the webway near their planet, ravaged by raids by CSM and dark eldar. The craftworld eldar needed military support, so now they are intigrated as part of the sept(immune to ethereal pheremones) and give the tau technology, in exchange for protection and resources. Basically, in order for the eldar to not withdraw from the deal, the tau have to protect them from enemy attack, with help from craftworld troops(since the eldar are trying to mantain or raise their numbers, there will be no plain troops, only jetbikers, speciallists, artillery and vehicles. There have been raids on the supply lines, and ethereals have kept the eldar in the dark, so the eldar think they can withdraw from the deal, but in actuality, they have to stick together or be picked off. After a few centuries and social inegration. the eldar have come to respect the tau and vice versa.

During the Reign of Blood, the proud members of the Royal Body Order of the ministorum were sitting high on their pedastle. In a freak accident during the Massacre of Sanctuary 101, a small contigent of priest warriors were sent hurling out of control through the warp rift caused by the Necrons. All they knew was lost as the entire are was helplessly slaughtered at the hand of the ancients. After years of drifting through the warp, the once proud order of men at arms for the ministorum, reappeared into time and space a millenium later. With the sanction to prevent any manned force under the ministorum to be allowed, they were not warmly welcomed. With great reluctance from the Imperial command, they were reinstated into the Imperium as a lawful order, but limited entirely to merely as a "crusade contigent" and not as a order of the ministorum, though they are distrusted by the Imperium as being too close to what they sought to destroy, nevertheless the Hierarchy cannot deny that an expendable force like this at their disposal can hit two grox with one las round, kill off the foul wrenches by sending them on suicidal missions to destroy other wrenches. Why waste your own troops when these chaps are more than happy to spread the word of the emporer in warfare?

I made up something called the Schism of Amarath in an attempt to explain why the 5e GK book's fluff was so badly-written; long story short, the High Lords of Terra attempted to appoint a 'Supreme Grand Master' to allow for more control over the Grey Knights, which led to about half of them, backed by the Inquisition, to refuse the Supreme Grand Master's authority. The Inquisition and the High Lords both got that a full-blown civil war at this point would be detrimental to both of their authorities, so they've kept this all tightly under wraps and generally keep to separate parts of the galaxy, but both sides have declared the other heretics and will start shooting if they come across each other.

On the tabletop they play out as a normal Grey Knight army with a self-imposed 0-1 limitation on Purifiers and Paladins, and no Special Characters; it seems to work well enough. The renegade forces don't really have a name, since they consider themselves the 'true' Grey Knights; I refer to my army as Saris Revant's warband, since he's the Inquisitor who's nominally in charge.

There's also the Knights of Bone, a Second Founding Dark Angels Successor led by a rather secretive fellow named Sarl who was a Captain in the Dark Angels Legion pre-Heresy and has spent the last ten thousand years hunting for his former second-in-command; he's never seen outside his armor (he's mostly cybernetic at this point) and the army itself is fairly generic as Dark Angels go.

In your nightmares...

I'm really liking a lot of these ideas. Especially suicide tanks.

My side-project army after the DE is the Dark Crusaders (not related to the DoW game).

Basically, they're the 2nd legion, exiled after their Primarch had some time in a lab with their gene-seed. The result of this gene-tampering was that they manifested a heap of psykers and have been on the run since before the Heresy. Fortunately, their world (Nirvana) has a 360-year cycle of travelling around the galaxy so they haven't been caught. Yet. They will be eventually.

Their Primarch fought An'ggrath, resulting in the death of both and since then their numbers have been decreasing. Now, there are just under 1500 of them so technically they're a Chapter now, just not Codex-adherent. About 30-40% of them are psykers and they have 5 psychic orders outside of Chapter organisation. Their Chapter Master is Isaiah Eden, who is a psyker and can use his powers to see a few seconds into the future. More effective than it sounds.

Their primary goal is to work their way back into the Imperium, making it a better place along the way, but they know that probably won't happen. Their sworn enemies are Chaos and the Inquisition; their allies include the Barghesi, Blood Angels (shh) and some Eldar.

Their armour is black, white and gold. Their symbol is a gold or bloody crucifix. Usual strategy is similar to the Heresy; only with a speartip of psykers to shatter resistance. They have many unique squads but are unable to make artillery, demolisher cannons and plasma, amongst other things (they don't have the plans and materials). However, they aren't afraid to use xenos tech, although they don't really like to.

The First Concordian Armored, Mailed Fist of His Imperial Majesty and Spearhead of the Harission Crusade.

1CAR is an armored regiment in the service of the Imperial Guard. It was raised from the Manufactorum World of Concordia in Segmentum Tempestus. Being a manufacturing world, Concordia has some members of its planetary ruling council who are beholden to the Adeptus Mechanicus, and oversee production in the Infernus Forge, the whole of Concordia's primary continent.

Recently, the Regiment came under scrutiny from an unknown Inquisitor Lord, who was snubbed by the Regiment when he attempted to order it away from a mission which was being overseen by Magi of the Adeptus Mechanicus. This inquisitor ordered the Forgotten Sons chapter of Space Marines to destroy the regiment, but they too resisted the Inquisitor's will after receiving some visitors from the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Ever since, the Forgotten Sons have accompanied the Harrision Crusade and the 1CAR with at least one company, if only out of mutual protection and disrespect for the Inquisitor Lord.

Behind the scenes, meeting between the Chapter Master of the Forgotten Sons, Azhek Roderick, and the regimental commander of the 1CAR, Podpolkovnik Illius Krasnov and their staffs (including Lord Commissar Verrulus Xaphos of the Imperial Commissariat and Overseer Lynaris of the Adeptus Mechanicus) have yielded some slight political power, while the Adeptus Mechanicus and Imperial Guard seek to shield their members from the machinations of a single Lord Inquisitor. Only time will tell what fate awaits the 1st Concordian Armored and the Forgotten Sons.

My brother runs Angry Marines =D

Name: 114th Dar'thul Assimilation Team
Leader: Shas'o N'thar (Commander Shadowclaimer)
Region: Jericho Reach
Modus Operandi: Assimilation of Imperial and other Xenos worlds, elimination of unintegratable races, escort to water caste diplomatic fleets
Colorscheme: Dark Red and Gold

"All shall embrace the greater good."

The Dar'thul Assimilation Team is a special forces team tasked originally with protection of Water Caste Diplomats when they first arrive on Imperial Worlds, their forces are meant to inspire a mixture of awe and fear into the Imperials or local Xenos upon landing with the diplomats. In the case that diplomatic proceedings break down, they are the ones who get the diplomatic forces out of action and into safety, as well as the force that is called upon when a world vehemently denies the ideals of the Greater Good and must be eliminated appropriately to avoid risk to important Tau assets and to pave the way for colonists.

The team deploys primarily crisis suits in its actions, they believe in fewer, stronger units providing a more powerful presence than hordes of weaker ones, and the majority of its pilots are seasoned veterans of wars past. In recent times they have been assigned mostly to combat the Achilus Crusade and prevent the loss of Imperial Secession Worlds belonging to the Tau Empire and to put down worlds that have changed allegiances back to the Imperium. Many Gue'vessa have been rallied to great deeds by the presence of Dar'thul forces, even against their fellow Imperials.

Rumors abound that the Dar'thul also fields special units in tandem with Earth/Water Caste researchers, however such knowledge is usually stripped from public records before it can be looked into further.
