Hey everyone, while looking on GW's website last night, I noticed that Farsight (a model which I love and want), is no longer available. Not even from citadel direct. I'm not sure what this could mean for him, if he is going to be cut from the codex, re-released in finecast, or a whole new model altogether.

Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

This.

Unfortunately, the most likely explanation is GW's continuing effort to remove the last of the metal/plastic hybrid kits. Farsight needs a new model and new rules (or to be removed entirely), but we're probably just getting finecast.

On the good side, you love the model so you'll be very happy to have a pile of dozens of them as a result of having to keep trying to get replacements until you finally get one that isn't fatally miscast.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Better hope he is being taken out.

Trust me, it's a better fate than being sealed in Finecast. Just think of the children! The horror!

Honestly, I've only had one issue with finecast, and that was because a single piece was missing, although that is another issue.

It just seems illogical to me that they would release two upgrade kits (Shas'o and Broadside) in finecast, but not release Farsight, and then make him unavailable. Then again, this is GW...

Though it would be a nice way to get crisis suits if they were in the same box, it'll probably be like the broadside upgrade kit... They thought of this it seems.

I've been told, that GW has 'fixed' its finecast issues by people I trust, after yanking the worst kits from the shelves for a few months, then returning them problem-free.

I am still dubious though... but will try purchasing a box of wracks in the new year... We shall see!

The main problem is, it'll be 20% or more expensive than it would have been previously to get Farsight (£25 a Broadside... wut).

Depending on where you shop, it's actually cheaper. A FLGS in my area gets GW products in and sells them 20% off, so that makes a broadside (battlesuit kit and upgrade pack) only $30. And there are sellers on eBay that cut you a higher discount if you buy things in bulk.

I'd honestly never buy directly from GW unless completely necessary, and I can justify helping a local business more than directly paying them.

HERESY

I mean, that's wonderful! I wish my FLGS did that. Oh well, Ebay is just as good...sometimes....

But, if they decide to re-cast Farsight in Finecast this will mean a few overall things for the model

1: Quality will go down about 5%-10%
2: You will most likely need to get a replacement, but that have been doing better
3: Price will go up 10%-15%
4: They will try to make him a really good unit, fluff and stat wise, in the new Tau codex so they can push sales of the model

Then:
Commander Box = £18.50 from GW (w/ 20% Discount: £14.90)
Now
Commander Upgrade: £8.00 from GW (w/ 20% Discount: £6.40, but Finecast is normally only a 5% discount, so £7.60)
Battlesuit: £15.50 from GW (w/ 20% Discount: £12.55)
Commander = £23.50 from GW (So £18.95, but more likely £20.15 from discount stores.)

Then:
Broadside Box = £18.50 from GW (w/ 20% Discount: £14.90)
Now:
Broadside Upgrade: £9.00 from GW (w/ 20% Discount: £7.20, but Finecast is normally only a 5% discount, so £8.55)
Battlesuit: £15.50 from GW (w/ 20% Discount: £12.55)
Broadside = £24.50 from GW (So £19.75, but more likely £21.10 from discount stores.)

It's cheaper now HOW exactly?

Also worth noting, when codexes are gearing up for release you will see their stuff mysteriously disappearing from the FLGS/GW stores/online.

Alot of times you'll see this if it's going to be a new mold/new kit, or as stated above by the other 2 posters. (why I quoted )

I am going to agree with the others that posted and say he will most likely be turned into an upgrade kit, as the only thing that made the farsight kit different is the sword arm with custom shield generator and his double antennas (xv 15 jump pack antennas).

I'm pretty sure some folks in the trade forum had farsight boxes unopened if you really want the metal bits.

even if he gets pulled from the codex (like aun shi) they will probably still produce him and just pull his name and have him listed as a commander on the GW site.

While I like the idea of the upgrade kits, it makes the end model expensive. As per the GW Canadian prices I would save money all of $0.50 if I purchased an xv8 + xv88 upgrade kit vs a forgeworld broadside.

There was a new Farsight model sculpted but never released along with a couple other figures that were supposedly "test" models as proof of work for a new GW sculptor quite a few years back. Still hoping that gets released one day!

In finecasts's defense, i have to add that a week ago i purchased a finecast Thunderfire Cannon directly from GW.
I was my first finecast model and it was fine. I did not need to replace any parts of it..
Already assembled, it wreacks havoc to mankind's enemies

I'll see your Thunderfire Cannon and raise you my Incubi. So this is my third box of Finecast Incubi, and their swords are warped and bubbled with miscasts, the models themselves are cratered and unacceptable.

TBH, the biggest thing that bothers me, is they switched to a cheaper material, and to avoid the fluctuating prices of metal, then put the prices up....

I agree. I've dabbled in warmahordes, and their resin (although it isn't as detailed as finecast) is superior, as well as cheaper.

It does bother me that forgeworld is supposedly switching to finecast resin, considering they cost exponentially more than GW.

One of three things are possable.

1) he's simply getting Finecasted.

2) The new Book is coming out and he is going to get a new sculpt.

3) New book is coming out and he's just getting Finecasted.

This is one of the things that is really killing my enthusiasm about starting a Dark Eldar army, just looking at all the spindly detail on the majority of the range and then seeing "Citadel Finecast" under their pictures. Visions of endless returns...

There are myriad ways that web guys can mess up. The Sauron one is just the most amusing. Also, I'm using a rather expansive definition of 'web guy' since I don't think the web designers are responsible for the coding of the actual minis and the availability. I imagine that runs to an inventory system.

Just leaving it out there as a possibility.

Not going to happen. It's the wrong type of casting system.
And even if it did - the Forgeworld staff have slightly better QC than GWs slightly rushed 'batch check' methods.
