I've read bits and pieces of posts where people talk about what the best way to outfit different SW units are and I was wondering if someone could just lay it all out and help keep it simple for me. I got a bunch of new SW models for xmas and I'm not to sure how to outfit them with a few exceptions. I'll list what I have and hopefully someone can help.

As of right now I have:
5x Boxes of Space Wolves (GH/BC), most are normal bolter marines but three have Power Fists but I think someone mentioned that Power axes were better over Power Fists? Should I take off the fists and switch them for axes? Something else? For special weapons I'm thinking of doing mostly plasma with a couple of meltas but I want to take one box and turn them into Long Fangs, Rune Priest, Wolf Priest and a Lone Wolf. How should I kit the Lone Wolf out to make him really effective?

2x Boxes of TDA Wolf Guard, I know I want one to have a Cyclone Missile Launcher to go with my Long Fangs but I don't know about any other weapons for any of them. Should I make a TDA Rune Priest while I'm at it or keep the RP in Power Armour?

1x Box of TWC, this is a really difficult one for me because I think I read somewhere to make one have a hammer, one with a Storm Shield and one with the basic weapons? Not sure on that either.

I know I'm asking a lot but I'm still new so I'm not sure what would be a better investment long term. I'm only up to the ability to think about what my next game might entail and planning for that. Any help would be appreciated and who knows maybe this could be a new trend and someone might want to sit down and do a guide for each faction to help the noobs like me!

Id use magnets. Its not hard, and its totaly worth it. You can find them on Ebay. There tiny Rare Earth magnets. One in the shoulder & one in the arm. That way you can switch out power swords & power fists when needed. The magnets are cheap.

If you don't want to use magnets id make sure you have a Pfist here & there. Nothing sucks more than being in cc with a mc or walker & not being able to kill it, slowly watching a whole squad die. :(

Also, you can just leave arms off and proxy for a couple games while you get a feel for the army.

I want to do the magnets but that's just a little above my current capabilities lol but I'm going to do it for my tanks at least.

I've been doing the proxy thing but I think I'll give it a few more shots to see how it works out, it's just a bit tricky getting a lot of games so I was kind of hoping for some advice on what would be best to save time.

My suggestion is start the magnetic project in bigger models.

magnets are the best way to go. for my GH squads I always do one melta and 1 plasma gun. if drop podding on a LR I do 2 meltaguns in one squad but not very often. Bloodclaws are not a competitive choice at all. Only reason I ever use a squad is with friends when I want the chance of taking out their warlords in cc with lukas the trickster. (also way more expensive than hes worth.)

I always do a rune priest in termi armour since they are so squishy as an hq with only 2 wounds. you can run a couple and put one in a drop pod and jaws of the world wolf his warlord and closest squad first turn. (my buddies favorite tactic and man is it infuriating when he takes out 5 grey hunters, ragnar blackmane, and one of ragnars wolves first turn. incredibly demoralizing)

I only used lone wolf once and really enjoyed it but cant remember what the options for upgrades are but when I get off work I'll check the codex and make some recomendations

PFs are still good. They give you other options than power axes.

A PA and PF both are unwieldy.
The PF lets you threaten vehicles, but you can do the same thing with melta-bombs or krak gernades. Wolves can have a PF that cannot be singled out in a challange.
The PA is cheaper by 10 points. When your trying to trim points, its a good idea.
MotW is probably better in the 6th edition than a PA IMHO.

Yes. Thats what you want for your special weapons. You don't need that many melta in today's meta.

for lone wolf I like TDA, 2 fenrisian wolves, combi plasma, and frost axe. It equals 80 points. for an extra five though you can have a chain fist. or skip adding a dif cc wep and do mark of the wulfen and roll d6 atk modifyer. all up to you

That's another question I have, are chainfists worth the extra points over powerfists?

For a Lone Wolf, yes. For anyone else, probably not.

actually, now rereading the rules on it 2D6 for AP makes the chainfist seem worse than the powerfist. what circumstances would make me choose it over powerfist? The guy who was teaching me always told me to pick chain fist instead maybe he was setting me up for failure?

But wouldn't that be better because it still works as a powerfist against monstrous creatures which Lone Wolves are kind of made to go after in the first place but gives them the option of going after tanks like a Land Raider or something? After all you kind of want the Lone Wolf to die so you don't lose a VP for him still being around at the end anyway.

but the lower the AP the better

The CF is still AP2. When rolling against vehicles you roll 2 dice for Armor Penetration instead of 1.

So when you are punching AV14 you can actually penetrate! Compared to hoping for a glance with a normal PF.

So now your LW can be a heat seeking missile towards someones tank if they don't have any MCs.

So what about the GH as they are kind of a concern in case I want to field them without any WG?

I hear PA is the way to go but I don't have a BRB to consult and see the stats for it.
