I want to know how you'd play it.

To me, the RAW is clear (but let's leave the debate on that in the other thread), but I'd definitely play it that he can join a squad with any Mark. He's freaking Abaddon, after all.

This poll is unnecessary. The several threads that have arisen about the topic have already shown that the vast majority of people believe the RAW argument against is academic, the RAI answer is 'yes,' and that they would allow an opponent to do so.

Fixed, as this is not directly related. This is like amateur political polling with a loaded question and then trying to relate it to a different topic all together

The poll is directly related to the thread. RAW is not > than HWYPI. Don't get upset.

Your seriously that worked up about this you need to make a poll about how someone would play it (i.e. RAI) then update the other thread about the poll progress......

Best bit is most people/everyone can agree RAI he can join the marked units but its the RAW that causes people confusion. So surely a poll on RAW would have been better suited for this nonsense (which there are many threads debating)

I wouldn't be surprised if by tomorrow there's yet another thread debating this.

What people think the rule strictly is, is a separate question. Folks who think Abaddon can't, strictly speaking, join marked units can and will vote Yes on here if they would let it work at the table with a friend.

The other thread got locked as the discussion was going nowhere and getting hostile. Please keep it polite and don't make it necessary to lock this one too.

I play it as RAW states, he cannot.

Once this gets FAQ he won't be able to so I guess I should get used to it :(

I actually hope there's an Errata that rules it the other way. It does seem awfully silly to me that the supreme master of the Chaos Legions can't join a bunch of berserkers if he damn well pleases!

RAW he cannot join, which has been proven multiple times now.

HIWPI is that he can join, because I never play him so it would be an opponent wanting to do this, and I frankly dont care enough to stop him.

This thread is largely pointless. You ask me this, so i ask you this in return; given what situation? Am i in a tournament? A GT? At home? My local game store?
Without this information you will not recieve accurate information. I'm assuming most people think of friendly games when answering this poll.

Edit: I voted "Not Sure" because I couldn't care less in a friendly game, but in a tournament game I'd make sure and bring it up with the TO beforehand. I have a list of questions I try to get answers to so I know how to address things during a game.

As for why it'd be denied, its been brought up a few times that Abby might not want to show favoritism to any one of the gods, so only joins unmarked squads.

As I only play friendly games, and the one person who runs Abby deep strikes him right into the middle out my army, every time, this giving me Slay the Warlord, I would have no problem with it.

Also please leave the whether out not he can, RAW, out of this. It has no place here.

All tfg's use raw, but not all people who use raw are tfg's, I get that, but in this case it's so painfully obvious that Abby can join any unit that it seems odd people will not allow it, however I'm not a fool and realise at a tourney raw is used ( when it must be, or by tfg's to gain advantage) and this is probably how it will be played.

It may be painfully obvious to you... But as I said a fluff explanation exists for him to be limited to unmarked squads as well.

As HIWPI will vary from time to time.

Am I at my house? yes he can
Am I at the store playing friendly? Sure
Am I gearing up for a GT? No
Am I in a Tourney? No
Is the other player a douche and the only reason I'm playing is so I can get a game in? Hell no.

I personally don't think insisting on using RAW is ever a TFG move, and would argue it's more of a TFG move to feel entitled to having your opponent grant you certain concessions that the rules don't allow for.

Either one can be; either insisting on RAW in the wrong situation (if it's understood or been previously agreed to do otherwise, or when RAW is patently absurd and honestly breaks a procedure, or refusing to follow RAW and insisting that one's personal interpretation is the way that it be played.

I've been playing Chaos a lot, and I have and like to use Abaddon, but haven't been using him lately in part because I'd like to attach him to marked Oblits or Terminators, but am not comfortable that it's legal.

Drunk, raw is a second to last resort if something cannot be agreed upon, the very last is a roll off, raw is not and should not be the 1st port of call, a lot of this game would not work with strict raw.

Evidently we disagree, I think RAW should be the first port of call, at least in terms of authority, and substitutes used only when the RAW is untenable for some reason or another (e.g. game-breaking situations)

If you want to seek to play with some alternative ruleset designed at the time of play, that's your prerogative, but to assign some label to the differences is frankly puerile, which was my initial point, and perhaps could have been conveyed better.

RAW has to be the start, otherwise youre not playing the same game. The arguments I've seen when two players from different groups meet that have beeen playing different houserules, convinced that there the actual rules....

Raw is just an interpretation. The final solution is a dice off if you can't agree, orwalking away.

This really isn't the place for debating the merits of using the rules to resolve rules disputes. Back to the topic, folks.

I voted that he can join any squad. I believe that is the common sense answer.

I know fluff isn't rules, but we are talking about the warmaster... the man single handedly responsible for uniting forces from all 4 of the major chaos gods under 1 banner 13 times.

Now if you want to ignore fluff and go off RAW, of course he can't join any squad with a mark..... but if your the kind of player who ONLY uses RAW, or argues it as default position, you come up with rule interpretations like we had here last week.

In the BRB under flying monstrous creatures, the authors of the book forgot to put a comma between relentless and smash.

RAW (read a written) it says FMC's have a rule called "relentless smash" instead of relentless, smash, etc.

As someone who takes RAW as the default, how can you come to any other conclusion?

The simple answer is to use common sense, and that's exactly why I won't take issue ever if an opponent wants to join abby to marked units.

I would let my opponent do it. The game is not always about RAW. Sometimes, pure RAW is just pure asinine.

Besides, it's not as if having Abaddon join a unit of berserkers will break the game in any way, shape or form.
