Thus far I have only fielded my terminators with power-axes or power-mauls. I play 3 axes and 2 mauls. I have been thinking about middle ground power-swords; Does anyone play a bunch of swords? Also am looking for opinions on 3 lightning claw(paired) terminators backed up by 2 power-lance terminators assaulting out of a LR, maybe with a heavy flamer. Has anyone tried something like that?

i dont understand the power lance. the lance should be used for units with hit and run.

Agreed, the strengh/ AP bonus when you charge is nice, but for terminators i go axes and fists/chainfists, because it makes them able to tackle most threats even if a fight goes on through multiple rounds.

Depends on who/what your fighting, but i like to make my terminators a threat to everything and rely on terminator's 2+/4+ saves to keep them alive to hit back.

Chaos terminators are best shooty. Combi-weapon plus either a poweraxe or a cheap single lightning claw. DS them in, blow something up, then watch the enemy have to deal with termies in their back field.

Forget that. Power fist or lightning claw or power sword. An axe is just limiting.

Nearly all the time you should invest the points and give them fists instead of axes and claws instead of swords. The cost is not that high but the benefits are worth it especially as you do not get the bonus attack on the termis.

I don't see the point of using axes and fists on the majority of them. Though I'm not experienced enough to really judge.
Wouldn't it make more sense to give them weapons that let them strike at Int as opposed to letting them strike at the same time as everything that can negate their armor?

The things that strike at Int can't really impact other 2+ saves the same way Fists or axes can.

It depends on the Purpose And/or Marks on the Terminator squad really.
I try to always make sure I have at least 1 fist/chanfist in a squad though.
I don't prefer to take swords unless cost is really an issue. I prefer to take Dual LCs/A few Axes, and It's fine to fill the rest out with Maces.
The more I've been using Maces, the more I've been liking them.

Indeed, powermauls were hated by most of my gaming group because we got caught up on the AP4, but forgot the +2 stengh strike at initative, i've played a few games with my chaos terminator champion with one and he's managed to land wounds on his opponent so much easier and two lightning claws cost a lot for him.
i like powerfists on regular plebs though, with a chainfist hidden in there as they'll never get +1 for two ccws unless i spring for the specialist claws and it makes them a danger to everything. Mark of Tzeench makes them more survivable to hit back with them too.

I generally always go with Power Axies with 1-2 Power Fists. If I am running anything other than a termicide, I also have a power sword on the champion(tho a single LC is better).
The reasoning is simple. My Tzeenech combi plasma terminators are one of the few units I have that can reliably take down enemy terminators, and to do that they need power axes. The champ is there to take down enemy PF Sargent.
I definately do not agree on the all power fist arguments, the vast majority of opponents die almost as well to the axe, and that ends up as pretty significant savings. You only need more than 2 PFs against Tyranid MCs.

I was planning on running a Sorc with three levels and the sigil with MoT. Putting him in the Termie squad with combi-plasma and MoT. Not expecting much, but thought it'd be fun none the less.
What would you suggest for a 5 man squad like this? Two axes and three mauls or what?

Might want a chainfist or something in there is you've got the points.

I really don't see any point in giving them anything else than power axes and one power fist (maybe 2 if the squad is big, like 5+) They still strike at S5 Ap2 (S6 if you khorne them out) and they are ridiculously cheap, letting spends more points for combi weapons, chaos marks, and other goodies...

Why would you ever buy Power Mauls when you can buy Lightning Claws? Against T4 targets, S4+Shred is only 10% worse than S6, but the LC lets you ignore armor.
The Maul might make sense on a model with a Bolt Pistol (because you'd get an extra attack), but Terminators are stuck with Storm Bolters.

Here's what I'm running in my 10 man deep striking Nurgle termie squad:
• Typhus
• Level 3 terminator sorcerer with; sigil of corruption, blight grenades(just in case typus gets knocked out early), a spell familiar, black mace, and burning brand of skalathrax
Powers: Two from the Nurgle table(since they are all NASTY) and Prescience from the Div. table
• Champ with powerfist/LC and gift of mutation (versatile challenge monkey with this load out)
• Two reaper autocannons with chainfists
• Three power mauls with combi plasma/melta/flamer( magnetized and changed out depending on if I'm going against a heavy mech, marine, or horde list)
•Four pairs of LC's
Between the reapers, combi bolters, burning brand and psychic shooting from Typhus, I think this squad will be able to dish out some punishment the turn they DS.
I think having a mixture across the whole unit of AP 2/3/4 in addition to armorbane/shred on the chainfists/lightning claws plus the S.6 on the power mauls will allow me to really smack the S*** outta anything I come across, be it an IG blob squad/greentide, an assault termie hammer unit, or a dreadknight/bloodthirster, whether I charge or get charged.
Also the T.5 across the entire squad will make it that much harder for them to be brought down by bolters and other S.4 attacks.
I am not saying you should run this WHATSOEVER just thought i would toss it out there to give you some ideas on the options you have and the ones I find the most effective.
I honestly don't care for power axes (unless you are in dire need to save pts) as a Powerfist does AP2 so much better when you are already going at I.1 and aren't getting the bonus attack from dual wielding 2x CCW's either way.

Far to many points on that Sorcerer, and you can't have Divination.

I'm confused. Are you running a nurgle sorcerer or running Typhus?
And I thought the reaper autocannon was 1 for every 5 termies.

First of all, I did that math with a single lightning claw. That's 3 points. If you're going to add a second lightning claw, you need to include another attack in the profile, which makes the power maul look even worse.

Yes, the more expensive option makes the cheaper option look worse, Suprise?
I said the Main reason you'd take a Powermaul, over Lightning Claws, is because it's free. Your math also only takes into account basic Marines. The Power maul lets you threaten a wider variety of opponents, while also being better at handling 2+ save models.

because on terminators(like those being described in the post) powermauls are free while lightining claws aren't
