Veteran Wolf Guard Squad Leader

Hello, I met a local player here where my unit is for 6mo and he has GK and daemons. I left my armies at home unfortunatly which are getting mailed here but military mail takes around a month if you're lucky to get a package out here. He has been kind enough to let me borrow his daemons for a match this saturday. I've never used them or even seen the codex before. I have army builder (still trying to figure out how to work it) so I wanted to get dakkas opinion on what units are good for a 1k game. I dont want to but also dont want to get completely stomped over. We are both very casual and he is cool with proxying just doesnt have any daemonettes but we can proxy in something else for them etc. I have no idea what kind of GK army is being brought to the table. If anyone wants to drop a tennative list feel free and I may use it but I'm just looking for advice as what works with what and best way to use certain daemons.

Erm... put it this way, the GK codex was written to stomp all over daemons, so go as as you possibly can... or see if he wants to swap

If I do get squashed at least I can take solice in my puppies arriving eventually to rain down hell. I at least want to go down with a fight. Are any specific daemons good against gk?

To be honest, I've not had much experience of 6th. IIRC, most people favour Bloodletters and Horrors over Daemonettes and Plague Bearers. The trouble is Fellblades don't cut through Terminator Armour anymore. Does he have lots of Termies?

No idea. Just a 1000 point game so I would imagine not. I'm going to see if I can bring as many models as possible to the table and get in cc. gk are good at shooting, right?

Pink horrors for troops at 1k. Try to work in a couple of units of Flamers and Screamers.

This blog will be very helpful:
http://daemons40k.blogspot.ca/2012/07/beating-grey-knights-with-daemons.html
Keep in mind that there was a white dwarf update a few months ago that really buffed flamers and screamers. Both units are now some of the most powerful in the game and competitive daemon players spam them.
As for troops, they are all bad. I use plaguebearers and daemonettes because they are the cheapest ones and I'd rather use points on better units.

Nurglings cannot hold objectives. You need objective holders in 1000pts as much as possible. Your best bet is to go with plague bearers and camp on your objective. Like the above poster said you need the points for the better units like flamers and screamers.

How do Pink Horrors do for holding objectives? The 4++ is nice and I like the idea of them contributing via shooting, rather than the plaguebearers that just sit there getting shot at.

Horrors are a good unit, aalost of shots with a 4++ is nothing to sneeze at.

Herald of Tzeentch on disc, no other upgrades. Put him with the unit of flamers, you can deep strike them in with him in the middle, and wrap everyone else around that tasty large skimmer base, more flaming on turn one. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and put a Bolt of Tzeentch on each of those horror squads, it's dirt cheap and a nice way to take out tough targets at range.

Provided you do not get warp quaked off the board Turn 1, Daemons actually have a pretty good matchup against GK. GK die like the MEQ Daemons excel at destroying, cost a bit more and have a few special rules that do not nearly justify that cost.
At 1k I would run 3 units of 5 horrors for troops with Bolt. That eats up around 285 points. With 715 left, I would take a Tzeetch Herald with a disc (630 left). Fill out with a unit of Fiends, a unit of 6 flamers, and two units of 6 screamers.
I think that should put you right near 1k points and it is a dead killy list.

That's good to know. I've been thinking of running a small demons attachment as allies for my IG. I wanted to make sure the troops could contribute.
Although the new codex has been tipped for Feb or March, so I guess I'll just wait it out.

Right now, that appears to be a WD wave instead of a Codex.

Hopefully not, I don't want to have to carry around my old codex with a ton of WD updates to make it current.

Yeah, I think everyone is hoping it's an actual codex update.

Make sure you use the WD Codex update for Flamers and Screamers.
Let us know how the game goes.

How about BLESSING OF THE BLOOD GOD 2+ save vs psychic or force weapons, eat that GK.
Can go or is on: Bloood Thirster, skulltaker, khorne herald, fleshhounds and khorne DPs.

This. I've had a single Bloodthirster with BotBG tie up and destroy entire Paladin units (with and without Draigo). Especially when Fateweaver is nearby to make that 2++ rerollable.

I clicked that on a couple of them in army builder so that works out. Any other upgrades that are good? also to make it easier does anyone know if GW or any other companies have a way to purchase and download the codex's/rulebooks electronicly? or maybe not purchase but obtain

Hastings is saying codex instead of WD so we can hope.
Flamers are gods, screamers are demigods, and 2++ vs force weapons... well everything in that army for CC is pretty much a force weapon...

Having played both armies GK have some of their worst match ups vs daemons.
