I tend to just lurk around here and not post, but I've finally got something I want to post about, which hopefully might be of interest to some of you.... I've started a new minis company.

Hello from Farpoint Games, a new tabletop miniature wargames company.

We have a SciFi rules set called '2107', in development now. As the name suggests, the game is set in the year 2107, and players will take on the role of the commander of a Private Military Company. We plan to have a trial version of the rules avaible as a download in the next few months.

In the meantime, we are releasing the first figures in the range.

They are 1/56th (28/32mm) scale figures, cast in white metal. They represent soldiers of a Private Military Company and their supporting robots. While they have been designed for use in the 2107 game, they will also fit in well with many other manufacturer's ranges.

Figures are sold as fireteams, for example a four man Tactical Fireteam with a Support Drone costs £14 plus p+p. We also do a Platoon deal, which costs £85 plus p+p, saving you £20, and also comes with a free bonus figure.

We have a full release schedule planned, with a lot more infantry and robots already being sculpted, as well as vehicles later in the year.

Visit the website to see what's available, and find out more about the 2107 game universe.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Some interesting looking figures. I like the idea of the little drone support units.

The only thing that I will say is that the models look a little bit too round and over-inflated; they remind me of GW's RT era minis

I was being dense on the pricing - doh!

I've always been a big RT fan, so I'll take that as a compliment!

Thanks! I've got a bunch more that I'm working on - I do like big robots!

I dig the rt era style, personally. I, too, have always been a fan of it.

I'd love to get a scale comparison with other companies' minis. Maybe versus Manic Corporation and some Dust minis? I might use the as shock troops if the scale works out.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

Are you open to constructive criticism?

The first lot look good, though I think that the guns need bulkingup somewhat.

The second row need thinning imo. they're too rounded for me.

I like the walkers, though would love to see the rounded torso downsized to be no more than a crotch plate and have the torso protected by segmented armour plates.

I like the drones too, though again I think the guns need bulking up.

All in all, something I'll eagerly follow. Hope you don't mind the feedback :-)

The walkers look like the pissed-off version of Portal robots... Which I loveeee

Pretty neat models. The little robots and slightly cartoonish look remind me of XCOM a little bit.

I think the guns look like what you'd expect in real life, if you had to carry one. On a model, you want a bigger bad- looking gun. Make them bigger.

I also think I know what the scultor was envisioning with the helmets, but it didn't make it to the model. The robots look great. Hope its great skirmish rules.

I'm always open to criticism - although it's a bit late for these figures, as they are already cast!

Fair point on the guns - I know some won't like them thin; but I prefer them to be like that, it just seems more realistic to me.... which I guess is a bit of an odd thing to worry about on a scifi figure.

As for the second row needing thinning - I'm not sure what you mean with that... is it the figures themselves?

And for the walkers, I've got some new sculpts in progress at the moment - I'll give the 'crotch plate/segmented armour' thing a try and see how it looks.

I've not got any Mantic or Dust minis here; here's a quick pic with a Hasslefree figure and a Space Marine, if it helps. The infantry are mostly 32 or 33mm tall, the big robots about 60mm.

Looks neat I must say for a new company

I love the "ambiance" picture shots

Just curious though, wheres the audio commentary? Though I'm guessing it will be a future add on since theres a lot of things on the website to indicate quite a backstory on these

Do you plan to sell sets of the little tank drones and hover drones? Because I would love to buy some of those.

In fact, those little drones look like what I think GoA's front line war robots should look like...although GoA versions should maybe have a bit more nanotechy sleekness.

I don't know if anything will come of it, but you might drop the GoA guys a line and offer them your designs.

EDIT: What an encounter!

(First to make an Encounter at Farpoint joke! Booyah!)

There is something I really like about these guys. Not sure know what it is yet but the general style has a very nice appeal. I look forward to seeing more from you!

It should be working - I've tested it out on 3 different computers, and it works OK on them... if it's not working for you, maybe it's a browser problem. I'll have a poke around and see what I can find out.

Unfortunately not, because of the way the moulds are set up. If the first lot sells OK, I'll get a new mould done with just the drones in and sell them separately.

cheers

Well it worked on a different browser. Pretty cool stuff though the voice reminds me of Portal Turrets

Did you green screen the far back backgrounds with photos of Stalingrad or something for those ambiance pics? Looks really nice!

Agreed. I think they look quite nice, and would also like to see them side by side with a Marine (or a marine silhouette), and a Mantic Corporation figure. (Dust would be a bonus!)

The pics Kenshin posted are awesome, why didn't you post those first?

Also, while I'm not really in any need for any more armored sci fi infantry, those drones look awesome. I'd love to get a set or two of those. I don't even know what I would do with them, they just look really awesome and would be fun to paint up.

Plus, you could adapt these to "modern" skirmish games now that some of our modern militaries are using drones much like the little tracked one. I've not seen anyone else make minis for those so I can see them selling very well for you.

In fact, other than GW's very expensive and "anime" esque tau drones, I've never seen any really cool little drones like what you've got. Nice work

Yes, they are all in stock at the moment.... there's more infantry figures being made now, but I'm going to do a bunch more robots and drones to release separately. There's a few vehicles started as well, but they are further off yet.

Thanks - I wondered if it was a browser issue; I'll have to see if there's a way of fixing it.

Yeah, I thought that when I was drawing out the side view picture!

Wehrkind wrote:Did you green screen the far back backgrounds with photos of Stalingrad or something for those ambiance pics? Looks really nice!
Yes, a couple of shots of Stalingrad and then mucking about in Photoshop - I don't really know what I'm doing, but it worked out OK!

Lots of people are saying that - I think I'll do some more types of robots and drones and release them in packs on their own. Back to the sculpting table!

Thread Necromancy -
the site appears offline. Has anyone had contact with Farpoint games recently?
I'd like to get some of their stuff.

It looks like the OP (and person running Farpoint games) is Michael Lovejoy who did the Oathsworn Dwarves KS project

Since that did pretty well (and is in the process of delivering ? might have just finished?) it could well be he didn't have time to devote to both

try contacting him via Oathsworn (I guess if he got as far as ordering casts he's bound to have some left)

Got a response when I asked about the Farpoint minis -

"Hi Doug
I'm hoping to get back to them eventually - I put a lot of time and money into them, so it would be good to get them released again!
The problem is they just didn't sell; and the dwarfs we released on Kickstarter were much more successful, so for now we'll have to stick with the fantasy stuff.
But we will do something with them as soon as we get the spare time... I still have a box of them sitting under my desk!
cheers
Michael"

Yeah, this thread is pretty useless now since all the pics were hosted on their now-defunct webpage! Next time we'll have to copy them over to the gallery... especially since he still has a box of things to sell, it's just that we can't see what they are anymore

I applaud him for sticking with what sells. There are too many companies and game stores that focus on what the owners want and not the customers.
