I'm not sure what they were going for with the Blade. Maybe in some way they were looking for a fluff weapon, where the champion lets his opponent get the first hit and the champion's faith and courage will let him survive the blow. Kinda goes along with Jonson's combat theories, I guess.

Wow, I didn't think I would have to explain this, One champion has arguably one of the best weapons to date, the other champ has dull version of a power axe. I was pointing out the inequity between the champs in the same book.
