Instead take the chance of 1 shot not penning and multiply it 4 times. An assault cannon has a 81% chance of wiffing, as reported earlier, and a 19 percent chance of 1 or more pens. The Las, as reported, has a 15% chance of a pen. However, since the hull point damage on either is negligible, the AP 2 Las cannon doubles the chance to wreck the flyer.

As an aside, a twin linked plasmas gun in rapid fire range has the same pen chance per shot as an assault cannon but at 12 inches, and an additional Las shot. The Las twin plasma, when in range, is the best at wrecking AV 12 flyers of all builds, and maintains parity at 24 with the assault and Las versions.

Hull point damage isn't totally negligible. One shooting a flyer is ~5% with twin-linked lascannons, if the flyer doesn't jink. Lascannon has a ~20% chance to do at least a hull point.
The only good reason to even bother taking a shot at a flyer is you don't have another other target to fire on, or that the flyer is on it's last hull point.
Assault cannons do wonders vs AV10 and AV11, enough so that I wouldn't feel bad about taking pot shots at flyers.

4 rending shots is decent against other targets.

I'd actually say that the lascannon and assault cannon options are equal. Both work, and both have situations were one is better than the other.
If I had to choose, I'd always take the Las/Plas.
If I were lazy (which I am), I would always use the twin-linked lascannons, since the kit comes with those guns, and none of the other ones that I want.

On a semi-related note... does anyone know of a good place to pick up some of the builds for the aformentioned Razorback Turrets?

Supplied with the model is only a Heavy Bolter and a Lascannon. You can buy a Multi Melta, or varients of the other two from Forge World... but were do you get a twin-linked plasma gun for that? or the Assault cannons.

Also, what armies can even use those... I don't see Assault Cannon listed in the rulebook...

Some of these variants it's easier to convert the model with spare bitz.
