morning dakka,

I noticed that FW is selling a 3-pack of their deimos rhino kits (link) and I got to thinking that these might be cool to use for my post-heresy night lords army. the only thing that weirds me out a bit is the two bolters on top instead of the standard stormbolter. the main deimos rhino page on FW says that the deimos uses the standard rhino rules from C:SM, but how would that work when the weapons aren't the same? do you just count each bolter on the roof as a stormbolter and then only place one on there (unless you spend the points for the second)? would I run into trouble with this in a tournament setting?

side note: has anyone built this kit? if so, how was your experience with the resin bits? everything fit well and such?

But chaos rhinos don't have stormbolters... They've twin-linked bolters.

that's an excellent point; I completely forgot about that that makes this idea a bit more appealing, then. just have to chaos it up a bit... maybe grab some bits from the chaos vehicle upgrade sprues and such.

There shouldn't be an issue as long as it's clear what weapons it has.

Blood for the bloo... wait no, I meant for Sanguinius!

Which look exactly the same on a rhino's copula.

That's an excellent idea! I'm about 3 steps ahead of you. I'm using the HH armors for my Chaos Army already!

My point exactly.

So do you just not like the look or what?

I only ask because the new fw rhinos are just the look of the older rhino models fit to the newer chassis.

IIRC the older codices even said it was 2 linked bolters that fired as a storm bolter.

I don't mind the look of the current chaos rhinos in and of themselves, but they look exactly like the SM rhinos except for a few extra spikey bits. fluff-wise, esp for an older chaos legion like the night lords, that doesn't make much sense to me. so, I thought using an older rhino mark would make things more visually interesting for my army. I just don't want to run a-foul of any wysiwyg rules since the deimos rocks two bolters on the roof instead of the expected combi-bolter (which looks exactly like a stormbolter).

I have one that I use as a Razorback in my Iron Wolves army.

It's a lovely kit. Everything fit together beautifully.

That's what I mean. I have 10+ rhinos from early 3rd edition. They have the same thing going on. That's how the gw rhinos used to look. They remade the rhino kit in the middle of 3rd to the kit we have now. The fw kit is just the new kit with bits to make it look like the old model.

Anyone who gives you crap about wysiwyg is basically telling you that all the old rhino kits are illegal in their eyes which I don't think would fly in any gaming store I've ever been in. Especially ones with many veteran players.

ah, I get what your saying now. I didn't realize the FW look was so similar to the older GW editions. I haven't come across many of the older models, yet. thanks for that

I actually think the Pre-Heresy models would work out great for CSM. Much better than the silly spikey models they have right now.

But I can't imagine someone having an issue with this. You're not using alternate rules, just a better looking model. The size and everything doesn't appear different at all. It's the same as if you took a regular rhino and converted it with greenstuff and plasticard to look different.

That being said, I'm totally going to run preheresy autocannon marines as Havocs for my Iron Warriors army.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."
