I was wondering what kind of cases people use to transport their models in. I already bought a games workshop case and I really don't want to buy another, so I was wondering if there is a cheaper alternative out there.

The key to strategy is not to choose a path to victory, but to choose so that all paths lead to a victory.

War is beautiful because it establishes man’s dominion over the subjugated machinery by means of gas masks, terrifying megaphones, flame throwers, and small tanks. War is beautiful because it initiates the dreamt-of metalization of the human body. War is beautiful because it enriches a flowering meadow with the fiery orchids of machine guns. War is beautiful because it combines the gunfire, the cannonades, the cease-fire, the scents, and the stench of putrefaction into a symphony.

I bought a large tackle box when I found them on sale at a hardware store. The small slots are pretty useful if you have lots of troops.

I use the storage boxes that you find in the craft sections of places like Joann's and Michael's. The multi-compartment bead boxes are good for the individual troop models, while they always have various-sized boxes that can be used for vehicles and large creatures. With this, I can use the same boxes & trays for storage and transport, and adapt my system as needed.

As with Kevin48220, I use the multi-compartment, cheap bead boxes from Michaels. You can put 1-2 (sometimes more) models in each section and I can fit about 30 +/- tactical marines in one box.

Then I put all of my compartmentalized boxes into a plastic storage box/tote to transport them (along with rulebooks, etc).

Depends, though I started out with metal toolboxes and magnetized bases. Part of it depends on where you plan to travel with your figs. The tool box works if I'm only going to be driving somewhere. If I were ever to fly with them, I'd probably want a purpose made bag.

I use stackable plastic containers (they're about 9x12") and paint the bottom with magnetic primer. Magnetized bases stick to it decently enough and I can still see what's in there.

I use the same sort of thing with my army. When it comes to my vehicles though I use an old camera case. I managed to get some fome inserts to fill the space for where I needed it. I also use some craft boxes for my land raiders.

When it comes to protecting my models, I don't spare expense; I went with Sabol's Army Transport foam, as foam tends to be the best option for protecting your figurines. That being said, if you don't want to pay the premium for it, you can pick up hard plastic cases that come with foam (typically labeled as either gun or camera cases) for about $20 a piece. They either come with egg-crate foam or sometimes pluck foam. With the former, you'll just need to cut out the spaces for your models. It ends up being cheaper than the foam systems, but nearly just as good.

Hands, down KR cases. If you want bang for your buck they are the best by far. Don't let others tell you BF... because yes there good but hella expensive.

People get put off because they are made of cardboard, but meh. You can buy carry bags for them.

BattleFoam.

Better cases than KR hands down.

Maybe I'm just kinda cheap. I love battelfoams foam but hate the price of the bags. So I did a hybrid and got the foam I liked and bought big plastic bins at walmart for cheap. Works well and saved me a bit over $100 on a bag. Now granted I don't take my stuff on planes or anything crazy but it works well in the car.

Im planning on buying a KR case because not only do they support just about every major 40k event...they have the superior product.
...for now i have a GW case and some loose cheapo foam trays. I also use paper towel wads to put vehicles in my old GW kit boxes...

I've read a lot about this problem,

GW cases are good, but not value for money.

KR multi case's and battle foam are good and offer more choice and better value.

A lot of people go for the DIY route, I read a lot of people in the US get gun cases and cut foam to suit. Any kind of storage box or case can work, better if you cut foam to suit your army too.

I made my own too and have a few KR case's.

Shoeboxes and the boxes of Larger models. My entire Nid army lies within a shoebox with the only exception being my Swarmlord in his box.

My chaos goes in a shoebox

Grey Knights go in my stormraven box with the raven.

And finally the Blood Ravens go in the Large case. 2 Tac squads, 5 man scout squad, 6 man sternguard, 5 man Assault Squad, 10 Devastators, 5 Captains, Chaplain, Libby, Command Squad, Sgt Cronos, Aegis Defense Line, Dreadnought, Honour Guard, 1 (Land Raider Crusader/Redeemer) and any combination of 2 of (Rhino/Razorback/Predator/Vindicator).

The other 2 Rhino variants and the extra Land Raider Variant goes in a LR box, and my stormtalon, stormraven and drop pod in the stormraven box in lieu of my GK where needed.
