Here is a 10-minute interview from TempleCon where Dave shows off the new units for Dropzone Commander. I put up a thread with some blurry pics of these earlier here that I've asked to be locked to be replaced with this one, since I now have both the video and new pics from TempleCon.

Dave shows off and describes the models and abilities of the new units for each faction:

And a short video where he describes how he painted the Shaltari studio models:

Pics from TempleCon:

Overall, I have to say that the UCM land ship looks much better in-person! Also, the Shaltari warstrider being a Support choice, filling an anti-infantry role, and boosting the shields of the units around it is just sick. The flyer for Shaltari is also sweet. The rules of all of the new units seem cool, and boost holes in that faction's line: from the jump-jet and stealth walkers for PHR, to the crazy artillery gunship and tougher infantry for Scourge, to UCM's landship with drones and the sniper teams.

Even better than the new units, though, is the card terrain! (Last picture above) $45 for 24 1foot x 1foot road tiles, and 20 buildings. It will take away the biggest hurdle to folks actually playing the game, that of not having an appropriate table to use. All the demos for the weekend were run on it, and it holds up great!

All of this is set to release sometime in March once they build enough stock up (I believe the buildings may be first as I think the printing is already mostly complete, whereas the models have not yet been cast).

The cardboard terrain stuff is going to be awseme, I'll probably pick up a few sets. I'm thinking I'm going to perminatly mount the tiles on either some plywood or MDF squares.

Did you see their resin building kits? They were awsome, while a bit on the expensive side you get alot for the money.

My friend has the resin buildings, they are incredible! But card ones all the way for me due to cost. They can be used together, too- resin lobby with card building on top, for example.

Just remember the old saying when you mix... Resin before paper, feeling quite dapper. Paper before resin, you livin' in sin.

Idk I just made that up

Makes Sense.

The only way that makes sense to me is if you pronounce "paper" PAPPER.

I still hate the land ship. The card terrain however isn't too bad, it looks pretty thick so it's likely a lot more durable than what I've been making at home, and if I read that right you get a ton of stuff for that $45. Personally though I think it showcases just how utterly insane the resin buildings actually are, $45 will barely even get you one building whereas here you've not only got 20 of them but a surface to put them all on.

It still sucks not being able to get actual models for terrain, but I'm a lot less down on the game now than I was when the resin system was announced and I was thinking this game was just too rich for my blood.

Agreed, card buildings make it a Lot more affordable! $45 gets you a whole table's worth, and the road pieces are double-sided.

And yes, if combining you need to do card on top of resin... not the other way around . The card buildings were WAY sturdier than the thick paper ones we had printed.

I have to admit that I think the models look infinitely better with video and clear pictures. I could even learn to love the land tank after seeing it on the board with other models. While I still debate the question of aesthetic.. it is kind of cool. It also makes more sense to me the more I consider it. The UCM are aiming to conquer entire planets quickly and effectively and with as little time taken as possible. What we have is a portable air strip with the size being necessitated by A) the newness of the technology and B) the physical room needed to carry the drones. While I think this model would make more sense to sit away from the battlefield fluff wise.. it does make sense for it to exist.

That is also assuming that in a game as mobile as DZC it would be possible for this model to sit in the back. Something tells me mobility involved all around would put it near the action sooner than later.

Edit: Also the Praetorians and Scourge battle-suits. The models for 10mm look absolutely fantastic. I think they blow away all of the pre-existing infantry sculpts. I am very excited to see what the PHR end up with for their supposed upcoming infantry unit.

Night Wolf- the UCM carrier can also fit in a dropship (I forget the name- Albatross?). The control tower on the back folds down so that it is almost flat.

A PHR player at TempleCon had his walkers magnetized so they could actually be carried by their dropships. It was awesome!

The Scourge Battle suits are a great deal bigger then any other infantry currently out.

Nice but... did this need a separate thread?

Don't we have a DZC Thread here in N&R?

Yep, if you check it is now locked and replaced with this one . I asked for that because that thread's discussion revolved almost totally around the blurry nature of the pics, and we were able to get clearer ones and the video at TempleCon

(if you meant the really Old DzC thread, that was put up before the game launched, it is quite dated now and not really suitable to use anymore, imo)

I magnetized all of my PHR stuff so they can be interchanged in dropships, etc. It was a bit of a labor of love, but It was well worth it. Adds a lot, IMO.

RITides; I did see the magnetic locks along the side and I feel they add a lot of flavor. I will be curious to see what the Armour, Movement, and Damage Points stats will be. Also, if I talk about the model like it will not be dropped off that is simply an assumption of mine. I assume it will be able to go in an Albatross, but much like a Kodiak I do not see this being a front line fighter or needing to relocate often and thus being used in general as a drive-on.

I'd love to see pics

And I see what you mean- the carrier Could be transported by dropship, but depending on the range of the drones may not be by most players (just driving onto the board instead).

I am guessing the range will be infinite? The Hawk team plays it that way in the playtest battle-report that piperider posted. Although who knows what could change by the time it is released.

The range of...the drones? They were independent units with the swarm rule and 30-inches movement, with a M(f) of 15".

I'm not going to lie it was EXTREMELY tempting to buy everything they had for sale at Templecon. I wanted to wait on the game for a bit but I utterly loved the minis.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

This game has been flying under the radar since their initial splash/launch.

Is it selling well in your area?

My FLGS just picked it up . 4 of us already have forces, 4 more at another store, we're doing an 8-man tourney in May.

It had a slow start due to lack of stock, that's fixed now though . Hoping for a tourney for it at GenCon.

Pricepoint of entry seems to be an issue for many, myself included (currently). Still we have three here ordering stuff and I am lucky that one buddy is among them so I can use his armies to play. The game itself is excellent imho. So in due time, I'll have an army myself. The game deserves more credit then it gets. The only reall thing I'd criticise is that the casting quality of the PHR that I have seen so far still isn't matching the asked costs, to put it nicely.

I wonder if they were early PHR, though? My recent Shaltari have been mostly great casts. And they replaced everything I asked for from the early casts, too! Just tell your friend to email them about it the responses have been really quick with Simon answering them now.

Nope, quite recent figures actually. I was even able to put two blisters together from 4 and still I missed a lot of defects on the parts. It is not one or two major ones but many many small ones that add up. Mostly intricate parts like the tubes not casting properly. The Shaltari and Scourge we have here are near to perfect. My friend, who I built them for, doesn't mind really as he loves the game and doesn't really notice stuff like that. So he didn't want to call for replacements. I am quite picky about stuff like that though and as such would not dream of paying the asking price for PHR right now. I do hope that the UCM I will eventually get, will be to my expectations and if not, Simon will hear from me for sure. ;-)

Got it and I think at this point they'd love to replace parts rather than have an unhappy customer! My friend's UCM look fine but interesting about the PHR, I'll ask the guy who plays them here what his impressions are.

The game looks great and the rules seem cool, but I'm also put off by the cost of entry. When your starter costs $100 right out the gate and most things I'm seeing at just a fraction of an over point cost... it's a bit off putting. Just priced out a starter, a few models and it was $200 :/ and that was only hitting 1500pts if I tossed upgraded leaders all over the place.

I do think 1500 points will be standard for competitive play, though. So while a starter is high, a full playable army is reasonable imo. The $45 card city packs coming in April will make it much more affordable to play, too, because you won't have to buy any 10mm terrain (and you Need buildings for this game).
