So I just made up a list for use in our local twice a year tourney. I like it beacause it doesn't require me to buy that many extra models.

HQ
Eldrad Ulthran 210p
Karandras 215p

Elites
5 Fire Dragons in wave serpent with twin scatterlasers and shuricannon 205p
10 Striking Scorpions w/Exarch with Shadowstrike, biting blade and scorpions claw 212p

Troops
12Guardians w/EML and Emboldenlock 146p
13Guardians w/EML and Emboldenspearlock 154p
10Wraithguard and spiritseer w/conceal

Heavy support
3 scatterwalkers 180p
Wraithlord w/Bright Lance, EML and 2flamers 155p
Wraithlord w/Scatter Laser, Shuricannon and 2flamers 120p

So the plan is to put my HQ in the wraithguards (Karandras for counterassault and stealth since I do NOT want to ally in DE) and the lords in front to walk up. The Guardians and warwalkers stay home for objectives/firesupport. The Fire Dragons go hunting and the striking scorpions outflank for contest shenanigans. The extra bodies for the guardians are simply pointfillers.

So, thoughts?

I would personally buy more fragons over guardians. Having extra means you have a response to terminator squads, and that your opponent has to shoot more into them once they pop out.

Extra guardians...well the weapon platform is where it's at, and with emboldenlocks anyways, no need to sweat morale.

I would only take the biting blade, and maybe stalker on the scorpions. A single fist wont really change combat all that much(and could be challenged out) and if you want contesting outflank shenanigans movement is a priority.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

I'll consider what you've said, thanks for your input

I would recommend dropping 5 guardians, 3 from one and 2 from the other, to gain points to re-invest into a BL and EML for the second Wraithlord. You'll have more powerful ranged capabilities that way. The scatterwalkers pretty much have str 6 spam covered anyways. This way if someone spams landraiders for a list you'll (hopefully) be able to alpha strike and destroy one or more of them before it advances up the battlefield.

Karandras' Stealth will not work on the Wraithguard. It will only work on Aspect Warriors and the only ones he can join are Striking Scorpions.

As long as it’s not the Imperium...

He can't join other aspects though he can still join non-aspect squads.

And as long as one model in a unit has the stealth USR the entire unit has it.

Correct, but as per the FAQ their powers only affect units of Aspect Warriors.

The faq mentions exarch powers - these will not work on non-aspect squads.

Karandras's stealth and Baharroths hit and run are not even listed as exarch powers, they are usrs. So they work.

The most fun pheonix rule is the disciples rule. Any aspect warriors they can lead become fearless (ie Fuegan with fire dragons)
Due to the fearless rule changing in 6th, If any model in a squad has it, then they all count as fearless.
So if you have Karandras lead any squad (ie guardians) it becomes fearless, even though it's plainly not RAI.

You're correct. My bad.

Nah it's not - there were a lot of of players that thought the same
First time through I read the same as you. It also does feel a little 'lawyery' as the counter argument from people is always
'But thats not RAI.'

On the other hand, we don't play to RAI and how do we know RAI anyway? In the first 6th Eldar FAQ (IIRC), they changed the wording so ROW looked like it stacked. Then in the next faq, they clarified and said 'no it doesn't'.
If they'd left it alone, we all have been right all along.
Then they faq'd eldar psychic powers so no more fortuneing in vehicles, which had been a staple for eldar since at least 4th.

I await the next faq with interest. Just to see what else they do with it...

My group (not me) is of the belief that since Karandras' Stealth says this ability is conferred to any unit of SS he joins, only SS can benefit from it.

I didn't think that the SS exarch could take both scorpion's claw and biting blade. The wording is can take X, Y, or Z.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Are you the only eldar player?

No. There's a couple others.

What did they think to that?

In my area, I've found a grand total of one eldar player who said he didn't think phoenix lords should lead anything but aspects. And he conceded thay could, he didn't think they should. (stealth USR being a happy by product)

RAW - someone arguing for their own codex
RAI - other people arguing against the same codex.

Oh well, as long as you have fun during the game, thats all that matters

It can exchange it's pistol for the Scorpions Claw and its sword for the Biting Blade. And it looks badass on a model

Automatically Appended Next Post:
How about switching out both Guardian squads for two tens of DA with dual shuricats and bladestorm? Packs more of a punch, shoots better, shoots longer and has a better armour. For roughly the same cost.

This also gives the army a more elitistic feel. A Farseer possessed by the spirit of Eldrad leading the ghosts of the dead while the Phoenix Lord Karandras leads the warhost of well trained Aspect warriors
