These kits look awesome, but I'm not sure why Noise Marines are now Pre-Heresy.

More like Heresy than Pre-Heresy, right? I think they fit in with the timeline as-is. They were present at the drop site massacre, which is the next two books from Forge World.

I just thought we'd start to see the more outlandish forms of Marines appear towards the end of the Heresy. Use of noise weapons at the drop site massacre would suggest that these squads were present in the Emp's Children for a time before the Heresy.

I think that's exactly what the 'newer' background tells us...

Did you read Fulgrim and Galaxie in Flames?

Spoiler:

They had already been tampering with their geneseed and adding "sonic" augments long before Istivaan V. Apothecary Fabius had already modified Eidolon, who killed the Warsinger in front of Garro using his enhancements.

While they weren't possessed by chaos at Istivaan V, the were using the sonic attacks. I don't recall sonic weapons, though. You may be right in that regard.

At least until ForgeWorld changes it (looking at you re-designed Alpha Legion)

If they move it away from this:

I'm okay with that "re-design"

Edit: That does beg the question, of is there any modern official art of Alpharius?

Agreed, there have been some good redesigns to come out of the expanding HH series. That is one example, but I think that art work date back to the RT/2nd Ed when many of the Traitor Legions did not have expanded background and it was pretty much just the Four Chaos Gods with troops on the tabletop.

What I meant was going from the commonly known and accepted;

To;

It is at odds with what the fans know, and with existing fluff. It might just be personal taste, but for a Legion that specialises in subterfuge, covert action etc. dropping a not so subtle clue that
Spoiler:
your Legion has a second Primarch, when your Astartes spend effort to all look alike to outsiders,
seems counter intuitive.

The only artwork I've seen for the Alpha Legion Primarch is fan art.

Don't put too much stock in my memory of the HH. I did just read the first 4 books again, so the initial Istivaan reclamation and Istivaan III were fresh on my mind.

I bat about 40% when it comes to remembering stuff.

Exactly.

40% is unnatural and amazing when it comes to hitting in baseball, remember that Edit: Go 'stros!

Also dread, love that Alpha Legion Banner from the HH weekender. Any shots of my 2 favorite legions? Ultramarines and Iron Warriors

I borrowed the Alpha Legion pic from Logic_STC's P&M blog so I don't have any other pictures, sorry.

I have to admit that the Iron Warriors intrigue me (after the Blood Angels, Alpha Legion, Raven Guard, Iron Hands, Night Lords) but the Ultramarines have just never captured my interest.

I really don't see that as much of a change personally; more of a natural evolution. Hell, I remember seeing that first image when reading the Alpha Legion Index Astartes in White Dwaf back in 2003? So it's a good 10 years old. (Y'know, when White Dwarf was cool , I can't double check the dates on that though, if someone can confirm that it would be appreciated )

The main features are still there, blue armour (Looks shinier, which is a nice effect and not quite as vibrant as the original image.), some silver details (changed slightly on the backpack and added to the faceplate, which isn't too far away from what went before) the Legion symbol has remained unchanged, the only actual addition has been the scaled decoration on the breastplate and the Hydra, which was always associated with the Alpha Legion anyway...

I like it far more than the original, and frankly, if all of Forge World's changes are like that then I'll be a happy man. Didn't they have a poster like that for each legion? I'd like to see the others.

EDIT:
Damn, that took longer than I thought; this is to Dreadclaw's Alpha Legion post.

I think the biggest complaint might have been that instead of Alpha symbols, there are quite a few Alpha/Omega symbols.

They've been taking a number of liberties with the pre-heresy colors. Perhaps your Indigo Alpha is the post-heresy look?

Took me a little bit as well. I was comparing the two and thinking "they are pretty similar" until the "two primarchs" comment and the two symbols clicked.

Yeah, for a Legion that specialises in misdirection, secrets and subterfuge sticking their secret on the armour of a few thousand Astartes seems a little silly

But at the same time though, we're outsiders that have knowledge of 25 years of 40k history and fluff as it has evolved. The Alpha Legion isn't giving away knowledge that the average Imperial citizen or other legion marine would know. The way the symbol looks, it's the chained Alpha that we always have "known" but now it's designed to chain to the Omega symbol. Could be a little nod that a beginning is always chained to an end? That those in the Legion know that "We are all Alpharius" and that the legion is chained to itself? Or even perhaps that Alpharius is chained to his brother, giving more credit to the "one soul in two bodies" idea for the brothers.

I suppose that the omega could be said to symbolise them as the last of the 20 Legions, but to me it is just something that I struggle to see the Alpha Legion making any sort of public acknowledgement of

Alpha Legion 'redesign' totally not surprising!

We all know that Purple Power Armor was a bad idea anyway.

Indigo - maybe!

Blue Green - yes!

Purple - no!

Have to agree 100% with the 'combo Alpha/Omega' symbol as helladumb, given how secretive the Legion is...

The banner picture does not do it justice. The whole Alpha Legionarie's armour is woven in very intricate silver and darker blue chase work like lines. You had to get pretty close up to the banner to see it. The level of detail was actually quite astounding, lord knows how you'd get that on a model though.

Cool stuff, but not quite enough to make me part with money.

I'd still prefer genuine Warhammer 30k by Forgeworld, rather than just the Heresy.

They conquered about 2 million worlds, that's plenty of different civilizations, tons of Orks and Eldar, and of course various different aliens who were driven to extinction. I mean, the Tau Empire is just a tiny spec on the map, but GW threats it as a major power just so they can sell more models. Why couldn't there be other xenos races in 30k that have that same level?
