Hello Dakkans!

I like the idea of fielding an army with lots of monstrous creatures, and in fact JY2' Hive Fleet Pandora has inspired me to start a Tyranid army.

The only problem is I hate the current Tyranid models, or painting/modelling organics in general. So... proxies!

I was surfing the interwebs and found some amazing miniatures from Hitech, which I am thinking of using as Mechanicus proxies for a Tyranid list.

HQ
Flyrants x2

Probably not big enough for a Flyrant, some sort of walker should be used instead but I'm at a loss.

Elites

Hive Guard

Very nice terminator-sized Mechanicus models.

The Doom of Malantai should be relatively easy to proxy, some sort of mechanical appartus would suffice, but suggestions are welcome! As would the spore (drop pod?).

Zoanthropes

Reasonably creepy and fragile looking.

Troops

Tervigons and Gaunt swarms can obviously be translated into a Mechanicus Factory unit which churns out swarms of robotic creatures, but I'm not entirely sure what model I could use? Any suggestions? Kitbashed/Converted Necron Scarabs and Tomb Spyder? Converted cathedral sprue?

Fast Attack

Gargoyles
Again at a loss here. If I'm to keep the army nidzilla themed I can get rid of these guys, I guess.

Heavy Support

This beast could fill in easily for any of the TMCs,

Not too sure about this one however, it doesn't really look Mechanicus or kind of anything, really.

Biovores would be relatively easily proxied by Thunderfire Cannon or something similar. Penitent engines would also be great for converting into Smashfexes.

I could use the walker as a HQ and make the TMCs using Imperial Knights instead, there's a thought. Any ideas or relevant models to throw up, hive mind?

I'm a bit confused. Don't take this the wrong way (its your army, your money and your life, so it's not for me to judge), but your first sentence says you like the idea of fielding an army with lots of monstrous creatures, but you have designed an army with, well, no monstrous creatures in it. And say you hate painting organics. That's a pretty big contradiction in there. I appreciate you just want to use the rules, but for me, this would be beyond the realms of reasonable proxying.

Some cool models in there though.

Eh? What army design? I haven't posted an army list, just a sampling of miniatures which can be used to proxy tyranid creatures, limited to the Hitech range. There are two TMC class walkers in there, one of which I'm unsure about. With some (Tervigons, Flyrants) I need suggestions. And all of the above models are mostly non-organic. This is a concept post, looking for inspiration, not a will-you-play-my-army post.

Hmm nice Penitent Engine conversions. Should ask him how he did them!

A nightbringer torso with the cloak replaced with mechadentrites and various mechanical parts would pass for a flyrant IMO, along with a winged Dreadknight conversion.

The only problem I really see is that every game against a new opponent your going to need to say what everything is, and when you play a new opponent expect to need to tell them what something is multiple times. That and tournaments might have issues with the proxies.

Not tournament legal as none are GW models, probably, and its for fun friendly games at the LGS.

Anyway, I'm not asking for permission to proxy, I need model suggestions!

Why would those models not being GW stop him from playing in a tournament? GW pulled out of tournament support years ago.

As the OP is from the UK it is very different, most UK tournaments are either run by GW in GW HQ or directly affiliated with GW.

To the OP the main issue i can see is that of size, most of the models look like they are gonna be smaller than the tyranid models. Alot of people will think you are modelling for advantage. You may not be "asking for permission to proxy" but in a communal activity if other people think you are trying to cheat, you won't get anyone to play you.

Relictors: 1500pts

its safe to say that relictors are the greatest army a man , nay human can own.

My gaming group certainly isn't going to bellyache about the proxies. I need modeling ideas and suggestions, not proxying advice!
