Nice one medusa! I'm really psyched to do some painting with the atmosphere of the competition in the air but I've got other stuff I need to do sadly. I'll enjoy it vicariously through you guys for now.

Enjoy painting them, kes! Remember to take your time and thin your paints right down to the consistency of milk. Speed doesn't matter, spend as much time as you need on them, days, weeks, months, whatever gives you the results you want.

Can't repeat this enough.. ! Patience and a steady hand (with the latter often coming from the former) are the lynch-pins of painting. Especially with Infinity.. there are no 'fillers' that are particularly easy to paint I've found..

Well, after my thread a week back tossing between starting Nomads or Ariadna, I've finally got some models and thought may as well make a blog to go in the community showcasing as well. I'll leave which one I went with for the thread, but thanks to all those who helped out. In the end though, the determining factor was the paint scheme.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/537349.page#5803154

I presume I'm meant to put a link in here?

Of the 10 guys I got, I'm intending to get them all done in the next 2 weeks. Not sure if I want to pledge that, we'll see how the first one goes. I'm pretty slow at the whole painting side of things. And with the whole steady hand thing, I tend to find myself not breathing half the time. It's weird to get breathless from painting...

@rah - Could you use the format from the OP please mate? It makes my life a little easier and stops me making mistakes. I'll go check out your blog now, you should definitely make a pledge, the worst thing that happens is you don't make it in time and you don't get a +1 nin the Pledging OP. Nothing to lose everything to gain, it's a great way to motivate yourself.

Update on my blog.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/439688.page

Progress on it will be slow to a crawl as I am awaiting several minis but have not given the distributor a "rush" priority.

I'll see about putting pics of the rest of it up, while I wait, though.

I finished my Hawwa sniper last night. As usual, I'm fairly happy with the end result but completely pissed off at my inability to do these models justice. I'll get some photos up when I get home.

Muyib with rifle already started. My friend and I look like we're having another game of Infinity this weekend, and I want to have a fully painted army on the table.

I'll head over and check it out, you should add a link to the post though. 25% of Dakka hits are from mobile devices these days and the mobile theme has signatures turned off.

Done. Didn't realise the mobile thingy.

Even though I have a smartphone that can do it, I don't actually use it for forum browsing.

Finished Hawwa. Just needs a squirt of Dullcote and some desert tufts on the base. Photos aren't great because it's early morning and I have my desk lamp on.

Wow, I didn't realize how bad those Hawwa pics were. I'll try to get some better shots tonight.

For me, the main problem is eyesight. I have a astigmatism in my left eye, and while I have corrective lenses, I can't focus on tiny details. So my stuff ends up looking okay right up until I take photos in macro mode, which shows up all the little gak I can't even actually see. For my Tyranids, this is fine - they're just red layered over devlan mud, and grey and turqoise feathered on the edges of black plates.

Infinity models though, they're a problem. Any photo of them makes them look worse than I can actually see on the model itself.

+1.

Likewise. Astigmatic right eye as well as being myopic in that eye.
Corrective lenses can fix the myopia - but not the astigmatism.

Hence why I paint my models the way I do.

I usually see them from around arm's reach on the tabletop. I paint them so that they can be seen from that distance and are distinguishable from each other.

Nice Kestril, strong yellow although I think you probably need to thin the paint a bit.

I would say though that yellows these days are at least 1000 times better than they used to be.. seriously, at one time saying 'I'm painting Imperial fist marines" was the mark of the true sadist, equivalent of saying "I'm going to suspend myself from nipple chains above a pit full of wild animals that haven't been fed for some time"

That's pretty much how I felt when the 4th coat came around and it wasn't getting any brighter.

Actually, the "gritty-ness" there is due to the faulty basecoat. It was baking hot outside when I primed them and the heat made it very difficult to get a smooth coat. It looks fine at arms-length.

The worst part is that I have two more to go.

Red is the same. I had no idea when I decided to tackle Behemoth for my Tyranids. Having to do 5-6 coats of red to get an even coat... bleh. Yellow, I'd imagine, is far worse.

There are some tricks doing nice red and yellow without going mad. You should start with a light brown, then perhaps two layers of yellow/red and the job should be done. I personaly don´t like full yellow, so I always mix some other color into the yellow (soft brown or khaki...) and brown into the red to get them less shiny.
You can see it here...

As I said not shiny but...I dunno in German it´s "gedeckte Farben".

But the yellow in your pictures looks nice, think you´re emprooving with every mini you do.
