Hello chaps.

After having owned this White Scar for about 3 weeks, with very little use, it's displaying some very irritatating properties.

Its components seperate, as you you can see in the picture, and his very thick with big bulges in it, like porridge or something. What should I do? Just add water?

Add water, mix thoroughly. Also clean the pot's cap and pot rim, with all that dried up paint there it won't close properly so no wonder it's solidifying.

Shake it. Some paints will separate, but with a good vigorous shaking it should be fine.

I add a little bit of matte medium to mine. Help keep it workable. Definately clean the rims to ensure an airtight seal.

I put a little chunk of sprue in all my paints. This acts as a little agitator when I shake it, similar to a ball bearing in a spray can. I find I have to shake the paints less and it gives me a better mixture.

Don't add water to your paint pot, you risk diluting it too much, just shake it

I hate to say it, but the best thing you can do is use this as a learning experience and switch to Vallejo (or something else). I always used to have this problem until I switched a few years ago. Never had a single issue since.

Other than that, I concur with the other advice present in this thread.

I second switching to Vallejo. After 2nd Ed 40k, GW has stalwartly refused to design a paint pot that won't dry out. I have 2nd ed era paint still use without adding any water, while the newer style pots dry out in weeks.

If you don't add water it'll eventually dry out no matter what. Using a plastic syringe or pipette to add water and then stirring inbetween ensures there's no risk of diluting too much. Also shaking the bottle makes paint dry in the cap and rim, wasting it and forcing you to scrape it off eventually.

Each to their own, I personally dilute and don't shake.

Also this. I've gone out of my way to pick up cheap(ish) second generation paint pots on ebay to transfer some of my most valued paints into.

Do you just throw your paints away after the get thick in the pot or something? As long as you are careful there is no risk on putting in too much water. If you do, just leave the cap open for an hour.

1. Learn how to seal GW's worthless paint pots properly to prevent this happening again.
2. Add some water and shake vigorously. Not a lot of water but some. I have used minuscule quantities of flow enhancer in the past with a small degree of success.
3. Get off GW's line of paint. There a re advantages to GW's paints, th thickness being one of them (oodles of pigment) but the overall color range and frequency of color changes make using their line very vexing. I've still not found a good replacement source for the midnight blue they used to sell or their inks ( yeah the washes are fancy stuff.... I have other needs and uses fr the inks too...)

I paint enough that they are frequently shaken. I do think my paints with water outside of the pot but I don't add water to the pot.

Even if you shake your paints, over time they dry out. I've had paint that eventually is so thick that it does not even move in the jar when shaken, yet you can still scoop it up with a brush. Adding water fixes that and there is literally no downside to it.

And obviously I'm not talking about watering it down so much that it's milk thin--- that's what a palette is for.

Switch to Vallejo. 'Nuff said.

I have found that Vallejo Model color 'Dark Prussian Blue' is a good replacement for midnight blue.

seen the swatch. Think I have it. my answer is: no. It needs to be a blue that turns out purple when painted over black.

Buy vallejo paint. leave GW paint behind. its garbage
