Hey guys, I'm thinking about picking up a couple boxes of Khador Doom Reavers, as I enjoy the models and like the appearance of what they do on the battlefield. I haven't played a game yet, and I've merely spoken to a friend who has used them and has admitted they're a blast to let loose on the table. My question is this: which character meshes best with them to utilize their abilities on the table?

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

The Butcher, I think. I played Deadnight with one of the Butchers and a bunch of Doom Reavers and it was an enlightening experience! (Spoiler alert: I lost. Badly!)

The butcher, eh? All I have is Sorcha right now, as I got the PP summer deal:
Starter Set
Winter Guard
Widow Makers
WG Standard+Character

How would adding the DRs to the Starter box with Widowmakers and maybe something else work? Trying to go with models that I like combined with what I own.

Stick them in the front... that's what I do... then they die... but yay! you fielded them!

Actually sometimes I get lucky and get them up with minimal casualties and they take down a ranged unit or two... except for trolls.. stupid tough rolls.

Just be mindful of some of your other units, like Widowmakers.

Put them too close and the Widowmakers will be useless for a turn.

Forgot about Abomination...

...also space out your Doom Reavers so they don't accidentally kill each other.

More specifically, they rock when you can buff them with a
CTRL Area spell or feat. A few that come to mind include:

*Dark Champion Vlad feat. You give them +3 to everything
and watch them shred.
*eButcher or pButcher feat. You can give them Rage Tokens
to have an extra movement/attack sequence. pButcher just
makes their damage ridiculous.
*Forward Kommander Sorscha- Feat doubles damage. You
can probably two shot a 'jack.

There are probably more, but those are the ones that stand out.

Vlad1's Signs and Portents spell gives them a slight boost to accuracy and damage output.

And there's the Greylord Escort unit attachment to give the unit he's attached to Tough.

pVlad with the Doom Reavers is a blast. As was mentioned signs and portents helps them with accuracy and damage. Wind Wall helps to deliver them along with pVlad.

I really have not found a caster that they are not fun with.

Be mindful that sometimes they are used as great bait too. They are a unit that your opponent has to deal with so they can be great bullet sponges while the rest of your army gets into position.

Honestly, I've had the most fun with them when I've ran them with Vlad3. This either gives you a crazy run/threat range with Dash after Advanced Deploy--or you can stack them next to Vlad3 for a turn with Windwall--but pVlad does this better (as they block LOS to Vlad--they can't be targeted by magic--Vlad prevents targeting from shooting). I'm not a fan of this though--I prefer just running Vlad3, casting Dash and watching my IFP/Doom Reavers book up the field.

Regardless of caster, make sure to add the UA--definitely worth its points.

Why are more people not talking about Butcher2? There's nothing like seeing the look on your opponent's face when you set 36 Doom Reavers on the table.
