Yep Thank you kindly good sir.

@ Waaagh_ Baraon: Look for any ultra fine permanent pen with a nib in the region of 0.1 - 0.5mm. Staedtler make the ones that I use.

@Dr H: Thanks for reminding me of that tutorial, I forgot just how great that is, really useful!

@Big H: Cheers. Really wish I could get through the rest of the army a bit quicker though.

Some colour on the bunker, it's about half finished:

Test schemes done on the kitbash models:

These are a bit rough, I'm losing patience shading black all the time.

I had a bit of a practice at painting rust on the weapons for the Death guard.

Now this squad is finished that's the army done, I'll get an army pic up at some point.

Junk piles is painted up now. Went for the lazy option, a bit of sponge weathering and, with some thanks to DrH for inspiration, a heavy washes of Vallejo light rust with a second of regular wash in patches.

Applying the wash stained the "pink" looking "rust", that I airbrushed over the top, to look more orange / red. Also it pooled quite nicely around the rivets and recesses.

Cheers all.

Nice OSL in the bunker, and the rust piles came out nicely

The figures all came out very well also- for all they're the bad guys, the Death Guard are very well done

Army shot of the Apostles of Contagion.

Also some close up shots

The force is quite infantry heavy and lacking flexibility but it was made using models that I already owned with only a few parts that I had to buy in.

Next up i'll be continuing to work on the Necrons, need to change the way I paint black, it's too time consuming for the results that I'm getting.
After that for 40k I have the parts to build two chaos armies and an Ad Mech one, continuing my 41PL list building.

But I'd quite like to work on some non-40k models for a while so I'll be working on some of the small random collections of models that I have around, generally clearing the WIP's off my desk and building an 800pts Bolt Action German force that I've had on sprue for too long.

I'm really really itching to make a Dwarf warband for frostgrave, a few months ago I picked up a box of oathmark dwarves as they are nice sculpts but they really lack the leather armour, the winter clothing, baggage etc that frostgrave really calls for, so I'd like to try converting them a bit, that said I might just get rid some of them (I don't need 30) and see if I can find anywhere in the EU that sells the awesome dwarves that Tre Manor sells on RedBox games. Otherwise Scibor Makes some really amazing looking dwarves.

Anyway, back to models.

The fortified tank wreak is now finished, the barrel was fun to paint, should have painted the crates before the sandbags because of overspray and the sandbags are painted the same colours as the dusty ground, but nvm.

Finally have some objective markers to show, these have been worked on since 8th edition dropped ... yet there is only 6 of the 8 the set makes... I'll get there eventually.

Turquoise rims should stand out pretty well on most TT surfaces.

The bunker is finished now as well, with a happy little plabue bearer to scale

If anyone is wondering about this new background it's the play mat from Warlord games' Terminator boxed game that I was lucky enough to pick one up in their sale for £5, it's a 30" x 22" mouse-mat so I thought I'd see how it fairs as a background, might be better than my grotty spray booth.

@Meer_Cat: Thank you, that OSL was absolutely deliberate, it's not bad overspray from someone who jammed their airbrush somewhere it didn't want to go because they were being too lazy to brush paint it, no-no.

@Cam: Thanks, means a lot. I'll try and keep posting.

@DrH: Cheers again mate

Cheers,
OMN

So much good stuff!!! Where did you pick up the foamed PVC from and how pricey is it? I emailed a supplier asking about offcuts but they couldn’t be arsed to reply a second time.

The ruined/fortified tank is a wonderful callback and beautifully painted. Well done dude.

Foamed PVC's trade name is PAlight, there are a few model shops that sell the stuff otherwise it's used for cladding, like building cladding or architectural modelling.

The price isn't too much for a sheet of it, the real kicker is the price to have it delivered, due to the size.

Try http://modelshop.co.uk/Shop/Raw-Materials/Item/PVC-foamed-Palight/ITM6958

or some of the places that do plastic sheet cut to size.

Few tips if you do get some:
It cuts easily, much cleaner than plasticard, but doesn't dull the blade or tear like foamboard.
1mm is quite flimsy, but great for detail pieces as it's easy to cut
2mm is good for most things
3mm is very strong
not bought anything thicker so can't comment on them but use your imagination.
It's also really, really nice to carve.

plastic glue won't work on it. So use super glue. An article I read on using PAlight recommended using a thin superglue but I've found it just makes a bloody mess, use one of the thickr types preferable that sets in a long time, the pours in the material will soak up glue and it will set near instantly in the wrong place if you are not too careful

Been a while.

I'm still working on the Necrons, stuck on assembling the tomb stalker and painting the Triarch Stalker, which are the last things left that i'm aiming to paint for this army for the time being.
Finally finished clipping off & cleaning all the limbs etc for the tomb stalker, but ofc this is forgeworld, so ofc every single one is bent out of shape, not looking forward to pinning it all together.

Not convinced by the reflections on the war scythes, nice to try pushing myself though. The effect was done using a series of glazes building up using lighter layers, it's very rough especially in places where I pushed myself to finish them.

Some WIP shots of the Lychguard in the spoiler. I found it easier to paint them part assembled, if it wasn't for the comparative weakness of the torso-leg joint i'd recommend doing this for all Necrons, if you are trying a more complex scheme like me. Wish I'd done the same on the immortals.
Spoiler:

So like quite a few people it seems I hopped on the Warhammer Conquest bandwagon (if only for a time) not quite sure what to do with the primaris marines just yet, some I will be painting up to increase the size of a small group of Red Hunters space marines (they are a chapter that often fights alongside members of the Inquisition acting as bodyguards and shock troops. I have 5 of these converted & painted up currently, but have an eye for adding another 8, to make a small force consisting of a captain, two lieutenants a squad of intercessors and a squad of reivers. Painted models so far:

Captain WIP:

planning on swapping out the right arm for a bolt-rifle of some type, probably the sniper one.

With the other primaris that I have I might paint them up as either Blood Ravens or Crimson Fists, both chapters I quite like.

Other stuff: Alexis Polux, I finally got to work on this guy, after having him lying around for at least a year and a half.

Still Very WIP; his eyes are wrong for a start as well as in need of a good bit of, damage, weathering and the lights on the base etc. But I'm pretty happy with how he is turning out, even though I really need to learn how to paint metallic metals.

Also finished painting some conversions using Anvil industries parts. I just quickly slapped some paint on these just so I can mentally label them as 'finished'.

Here's a squad of infantry using a mix of Anvil, Victoria Lamb and Warlord games parts, I wish Anvil would make some heads with helmets to match the ushanka gasmak heads.

And lastly a small squad of skitarii, the arms don't quite fit the torsos so if anyone is thinking of trying this, use a bit of greenstuff to fill the gap.

Can't wait to see what I post up next time... whenever that is

Cheers

Well the scythes look great in the pics....

Nice Hunters, like the bases and dust.

Infantry and Skitarii bashes worked well - should the skitarii be a bit dustier though, as they seem to be in the same location as the Hunters?

whilst looking up colours for something I stumbled accross this blog: http://napoleonicwargamingadventures.blogspot.com/p/vallejo-triad-charts.html

The author has put the time and effort into compiling a list of triads of Vallejo's model color range.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BxBp_BdjWzPKLU00Z1MyazZkR3M

Hopefully this will be of some use for someone.

Assembled the legs on the Triarch stalker, still wants more work on the golden bits and the glowy parts are quite rough, think I'll work on the weapon next as I'm not looking forward to painting the pilot part.

I seem to have aquired a number of Dwarves of various origins, It's amazing just how much variety there is in size when you go looking for 28mm scale dwarf miniatures. Left to right: Red box games (US), Conqueror Models (UK), Oathmark (UK).

A short review...
Red box games:
These are really tiny, true scale and exceptionally detailed, Tre Manor is an exceptionally talented sculptor ... I only wish all the other Dwarves around and bits that I could use for converting were similarly scaled.

Conqueror Models:
I had not heard of these before not and it's no surprise since they primarily make things that I would not have gone looking for before now, such as 15-18 mm scifi, 28mm napoleonic and other, mostly metal, historical ranges. Their Dwarves are in a more Saxon 11th century style.

Oathmark:
These are heroic in scale, probably better suited to 30 - 32mm; plastic, multipart and with a good selection of options for equipment (bows, hand weapons and spears, plus shields), they clean up nicely, and are easy to assemble, but they look a bit plain and frankly boring. Still they are the best plastic dwarves without a GWS label on them.

I'm putting together a small warband, mostly for frostgrave but also for any other skirmish game I happen to pick up, I'm thinking of a band of miner / ranger /adventurers. So torches, pickaxes and plenty of travelling gear scattered around.
ATM I'm split three ways between using Scibor, Red Box Games or converting my own models, probably not RBG because of the relativity huge cost of importing the very small models from the US, wish I'd got them from the kickstarter however.
I may have accidentally contracted a slight obsession all of a sudden.

Been quietly working on these three in between working on other things. They are still very WIP just taking them slow, working on one colour at a time and seeing just how far I can push myself.

@MT: Thanks. Yea, good point about the Skitarii, guess I forgot about it.
@ Dr H: Cheers.

Thanks all.

Triarch Stalker is nearly finished:

I had a go at painting the weapon a bit differently.

It's supposed to be like this by MajorTom11

but I don't think I really pulled it off so I've stripped it down to try again at some point.

The Tomb Stalker is currenty being painted, here it is built.

Have to find some places to pin the model to the base after.

Finally got finished building some Bolt action infantry build as well
Germans:

and Russians:

I have had a go at painting the German officer (armed with an MG34 ... might call him "Arnold"), but I'm not too happy with the field grey so I'll try again.

Having painted guard for years I figured they'd be easy enough to batch paint, getting the colours right is a bit of a pain, most of the tutorials or guides that I've seen are either too simple or seem to use different colours. Since I know sweet FA about military uniforms I have a lot to learn.

Had an Idea for some fantasy bases, thought I'd try it out.

@MT: Not heard of Eden until you asked, no, the models are from Forgeworld.

@ Shas: Thank you very much, the white is really just a pale grey the camera has done the rest making it look whiter than it actually is.

Cheers all,
OMN.

Good work.
I assume you're painting the gun with washes?
From the 2 photos it seems as if you're missing the greenness to the inner glow. Maybe try a white before the green to make it really stand out. and then a yellow/green to yellow to "highlight" that.

It's almost weird seeing your toaster and postbox bits after looking at them in my bits collection so long. I forgot you made them for a second.

I've tried to avoid looking around FW since I got back into modelling, except for a quick poke to grab a weapon pack. Enough temptation elsewhere without looking at their goodies - although finding they discontinued some of the stuff makes me want to peek. I'd only end up grabbing something like those Tomb Stalkers to see what else could be done with them though

It was probably the great colour scheme you used in them that made me think Eden - blues and yellows seem to be popular in some of their scavenger types.

I liked the gun, even if it is different to MT's version, would have been nice to see it in place to get a feel for how it looks with the rest of the scheme. But if you're not happy with it, then that's the main thing.....

Chunky horde of infantry there. Plenty of research material available on uniforms, perhaps too much as it can lead down many rabbit holes.

Based look good on the skaven - getting a dirty flagstone treatment I presume?

@DrH: Actually the gun was painted with many thin layers with a lot of blending. I'll be re-painting it with the same colours that I've used in the other glowy bits in the army. Cheers!

@Fifty: I painted them yellow then added to black stripes after, I usually find it easier to do that way, since any mistakes can be more easily disguised as scratches etc.

@MT: Avoiding FW is a very wise choice to avoid temptation indeed! Too many nice things, actually they seem to be removing a lot of things that I would be tempted to buy however.

You've hit the nail on the head there with the historic uniforms, there are a lot of differing opinions on uniform colours and the lack of colour standardisation in the factories that made the uniforms doesn't help. E,g. one factory's "field grey" is different to another, add to that poor colour stabilisation in the dying process, weathering and that officers had to buy their own uniforms, means you would have a number of variations on the theme of "field grey" even in a unit as small as a platoon.
As a self confessed tread-head I'm much happier with tank camo schemes.

Yes I wlll be painting them as firt flagstones of some colour I've yet to decide... I'm going with the theme of an abandoned dwarven hall for the bases and I'm making a few small bits of terrain to match the theme.

Onwards...

I've been painted the tomb stalker, just forgot to take pictures, I'll try to get some next weekend (hopefully I'll have done more of it by then). Otherwise no progress on the Necron front. This is mostly down to me having knocked a bottle of very thin superglue over and sticking my mousemat and cutting mat to my desk also damaging my current main painting brush in the process. In case anyone is wondering I use a Rosemary & Co Series 44 Size 2 for most things.

Scum are nearly finished, just the grease / rust and verdigris used on the original models (that I've been putting off as I'm not too sure how I feel about it).

WIP of some Dwarven Tombs and a statue plinth (1/6)

For a while I've fancied having ago at making some trees using wire, so I bought some wire and am having ago, they are made of a mix of 1mm Aluminium and 0.4mm soft brass. If you are reading this and want to try it don't but half-hard brass (as I accidentally its too inflexible for this, aluminium or copper are fine or use soft brass as it holds its shape well.

There are loads of good tutorials about making trees, here is two that both go through the same steps but show some of the range of different materials that can be used to make trees of differing species.
