I normally don't comment on this blog as I have my own. I also don't feel a need to defend my tournament but will as the initial post heading was undesirable to my event and we continue to strive for a better growing gaming experience. As the painting scores are an average of 3 different paint judges that are judged seperately at different times then averaged together, I don't see any validity in this post that was written by a person that seemed to be having a great time all weekend. I am glad you were there Master Shake and appreciate any feedback you have for our tournament.

There is much more I could discuss surrounding the timing this post was published, the condition of all parties involved, and the process of determining best painted, but won't.

Thank you for attending the 2nd Annual Indy Open Master Shake and I hope to see you and your group again.

I saw his army at a local tournament last weekend and what was done at the time was pretty awesome. We were talking in our group about the Indy open paint rubric and when his army wasn't even finished he was going to get 35/45 points on the rubric. Every single mini is heavily converted or scratch built. He got everything done but 2 bases so I can believe he would be in the running for best painted. I did not attend the Indy open so I can't say what the other armies looked like but I know his is of a very high quality.

So a couple small things about this statement is you come across extremely biased. Now this is not to say that it wasn't an amazing army but looking at the painting rubric some of that is judges choices so by you stating he was 35/45 that seems more of a personal friend biased. I have seen many comps where people don't recognize conversions, or what it freehand etc and it is because they are done so well. Mannahiem can back me up on that one as he and I have talked in the past about that very issue. I always take it as a compliment when people can't figure out the conversions I do, although anyone who knows me knows I never seem to have an army (I always sell them after the event I made it for). Would your friend have a blog though or something that you could post so we could all go and see pictures of the army as I think most of us at this point want to see it. As for the basing me personally as a judge, no I wouldn't have given it to him as 2 bases is not hard to do...that's not even measured in minutes of work but for others it's an eh.

Alright looking at this thread kind of upsets me tbh. However, I will do my best to keep this rant polite and professional.

From the top
1. I have been to the indy open both years and it has easily been the best ran and funnest event for me throughout the season. The judges are damn good and even if they know the answer on something they boune it off another judge to confirm.

2. Three seperate judges moved around separately judging painting scores and I believe they recorded player nunbers example mine was 45 which was issued to me upon arrival. In addition, not everyone knows internet celebs actual names even if they saw it on a list. I only know a few by actual name because we have faced off and ran into eachother a couple of times.

3. The person who won the top paint score has also won best sportsmanship at various events and I trust me when I say if he thought he didn't deserve it he woukd of given it to the person that did. His army was pretty much 100% costume made and was down right beautiful.

4. If painting was rigged and I know the judges pretty well and made the finals both years how was my overall paintscore a combined average of 5 lol.

5. Painting is 100% subjective example I got 11, 2, 2,. Lol.

6. The most important one. Dont indulge in excess and then slander an entire club because you're mad with some results. It skews your message and makes your argument less credible.

That's it for now tk out.

It was my army. I had two scenic bases that I honestly missed while speed basing my entire army last week. I had painted up around 80 guardsmen, 22 marines, and 6 vehicles in less than two weeks around work.

I'll have photos of the army up on my blog in the next few days. I'll even avoid basing the two libbies before then

And just to clarify the paint scoring a little bit. I was down at 7:00am to be judge, the earliest time possible but the event didn't start till 9 and they did paint judging between round 2 and 3. It was the players responsibility to get to all three paint judges to look at their army. When I was standing with the first judge (who...gave me an average score last year) and noticed that my two libbies weren't based I told him I could run upstairs and have them based painted (they were scenic resin bases already primered) well before the start time and could get judged then.

That judge told me not to worry about it since the remaining portions or my army (either on scenic bases or standard basing painted & supplemented to match the scenics) clearly showed what those two models would look like after 15-20 (only that long for the paint and brushs to dry between coats).

I then proceeded to have two other judges look at my army who agreed with the first judge.

So bear in mind they weren't flat black bases, they weren't unprimered, and they were something I offered to remedy two hours before the event began but it wasn't an issue.

That said I was still kinda shocked to pull down best painted but was extremely happy as that means as much to me as best general or sporsman which represent the other two major portions of the hobby.

Oh, and the board was the battlefoam X-Board, textured with cork/sand, painted and highlighted with static grass and such added. It wasn't the board I wanted but I just ran out of time. I'm building the display board over the next two weeks before a local GT here in Minnesota to replace the standard X-board I've been using for the last year.

**Edit**

I'd also like to add that Master Shake told me in person he was just giving me a hard time and was super hammered when he posted (which judging by how he looked around 10pm I can believe if he kept going ).

I ran the scoring at the Indy Open. To determine best painting we took the top 5 armies based on the average technical score from all 3 judges. Each judge then ranked their favorites from 1 to 5. I reversed the numbers and added them together( so best = 5, worst =1) and added that together for all three judges. The top 3 was based on that metric.

Paint judging was headed by Sandwyrm of TheBack40K. He was backed up by two other talented local miniature painters.

Agreed and.(not to diminish you hulk) i never considered hulk an internet celeb as usually.that means people all over would know and reconise you i.e dave taylor, gmm studios brandon palmer and so forth. It now seems more so that the op is just a sore loser.
