Yep. Without any model on the board, you lose. But just houserule it with the people you play with. I assume you are using troops meaning any models, rather than the FOC Troops. Because you could have an elite or fast attack on the board and not auto lose (Tauros or something), you don't need to have a Troop unit.

On another note, apparently they are getting an update a la drop pod assault so that you won't autolose anymore.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Don't go getting rid of them all yet though, if the update Peregrine talks about does come, then they'll be back in.

And would your local gaming group really not allow you to houserule it to be like drop pod assault or something?

10 fliers?

Just dump another grand into whatever flavour it is this month, money is obviously not much of an issue.

At the end of any game turn if you do not have any models on the table you lose the game.

Depending on your available options maybe you could build an Elysian/Ally army for now until they get their update.

Eldarain has a pretty good idea. You should be able to pick up some cheap allies, plop them in an Aegis Defense Line, and survive until reinforcements arrive. Since you play Guard, you've also got access to the best group of alliances.

To clarify: FW have mentioned on their facebook page (in response to this question) that when they finally get the 6th edition update for the list done there will be some kind of "drop pod assault" rule where you can hold everything in reserve aboard flyers or deep striking and bring some of it on turn 1 to avoid the auto-loss. Obviously this isn't official and could still change for various reasons, but it's a common-sense thing to add so I think you can be reasonably confident that your army will work once the update is done.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Just throw in some IG allies. You can use this as a stop gap measure until the update. It is even decently fluffy as they can be forward scouts identifying the drop zone.

I personally use 3 tarantulas, plasma vets in a vendetta, and a primaris psyker attached to the vets. Space out the tarantulas behind cover and it is 45 pts very nearly ensure you stay on the board. (I very occasionally play a pseudo elysians list so I can't say if this is tournament ready or anything but it has worked really well so far)

Unfortunately it's a D-99 detachment so I'm kinds out of the ball park for ally's , fighting nids. Would sniper teams fill that gap ?

I don't know if Elysians have different rules in this regard, but you don't actually have to have the unite embarked at the start of the game. A unit may be deployed separately to its dedicated transport, the transport just can't be deployed with a different unit inside.

They have completely different rules from guard they are from IA8(right?) any ways forgeworld.

You don't actually field "allies" you use two codices to field a single army such that it can be played. As such you are not actually fielding an elysian 88 + auxilary detachment. You are instead fielding elysian 88 taken from two codices.

Doesn't really matter what you arm them with. Mortars would probably be better than sniper rifles though as they need to sit out of LoS or they will die and you will auto loose again. Any tough unit you can start on the board will do but if you want to stay in the game it better be pretty tough or any army in the game will wipe you off first turn (daemons and drop pod armies being the worst). I imagine you are using your heavies for aircraft? If not you can deploy tarantulas in an elysian list they just cost 2x the pts.

That's BRB rule, so should apply to Elysians
