A new Kickstarter by Dwarven forge aims at bringing unpainted or painted 3D terrain for less expensive prices.
Starting with 3 basic pieces.

Single sets (unpainted, but gray) start at 65 bucks and are made out of a really durable material.

For $1,000, you will receive 10 expertly hand painted sets AND a special prototype piece just three weeks after the Kickstarter project ends.

For $2,000, you will receive 10 expertly hand painted sets AND special prototype set just a few weeks after the Kickstarter campaign ends.

For $3,500, you (and 7 friends) will spend the day gaming, eating (and most likely drinking) with Stefan Pokorny. He will run your group through an awesome D&D adventure as well as give you a tour of the DF studio where you can see his incredible art -- including his jaw-dropping maps. You might even see a few original sculpts from upcoming sets. Stefan buys the food and drinks for you and your 7 friends.

Q. Are you planning Stretch Goals?

Absolutely! We have some INCREDIBLE Stretch Goals planned. As the campaign grows, we will post them. Our manufacturing costs go down as we cast more of these pieces, so it's entirely practical to offer FREE Stretch Goals if we receive enough support. Anyone pledging $120 or more will receive these Stretch Goal pieces for free.

I just backed it. Though I own lots of molds from hirst arts for this kind of stuff, the material will make a great set that I can take on the go. I spend a lot of time casting and creating things from dental plaster and don't want to take those things over to someones house/game store where breakage is common.

Looks pretty sweet! I already did one KS and got more terrain of one type than I had a use for, though, so I don't think I'll be onboard.

Interesting how little additional money they're charging for the painted sets (comparatively speaking).

Seems like a lot to me, but I'm used to painting my own stuff. The material as I see it comes ready to paint out of the box, so an hour with an drybrush will be pretty much all you need to look good and a few more hours of detailing would make them look great!

31k In about 3 hours? I think we got this funded. I'm wondering what the stretch goals are going to be!

I'm definately in for a couple sets. Its nice they corrected the issue with older sets where the wall was placed on the outside of the floor, rather than on top of it, making it impossible to have a floor on both sides of a wall without getting the layout off.

They have hit their funding goal.

Goal reached and first set of stretch goals active.

Looks pretty good, too. at 75k (which we'll most likely get here soon) you'll get 4 extra walls per set. So myself being a 120 dollar backer will get 8 extra. Looking forward to see what else they have in store.

I own a lot of their old stuff, and it is georgous, but my problem was that a lot of the wall pieces (not all) left a half square against the wall.

This means that a two square corridor is in fact a half square, single square, half square corridor. Since I like to be able to move my models by squares this was a real pain to me. we had to use the lines to move on.

I can see why they did this, its a real pain to make a set where there is a full square against the wall rather than half or quarters, (try it yourself on the images above) but it IS possible.

I'm glad they did it that way as it matches the Hirst Arts setup as well. We just set them up as either a single 5ft (two walls against each other) for very narrow passages. One thing they could do to help this would be to release 1x4 strips of flooring so you can make 12.5ft or 15 ft passages. For rooms and such we also count that half square as "impassible" and try to stack it with shelves and the like.

The problem is if you have two full inches of floor width in a corridor its even larger on the outside, so you'd need the 1.5 inch piece to go against the outer wall to fill in the map. They added some of these pieces, but I'd rather just circumvent the problem entirely by having all pieces fit on a 2" by 2" area.

I wonder if they have any other style sets planned in this KS (cavern, midieval town, sci-fi).

I like the idea but don't think I'll pledge. I still have a bunch of the mageknight wall/dungeons left over and this isn't adding anything too big that I want to get in on.

If this goes real well and they go by popularity then I'm sure we'll see an expansion for this set then the caverns.

Not bad, not thrilled about the losing a quarter inch to walls, making those 'squares' unusable.

I am not sold on the prices either... I have gotten Hirst reseller tiles for less than this. But being one piece casts, these may have value.

Good luck to them! I will watch to see how the stretch goals end up.

What process do you use for mold making and casting? How many molds do you plan have for this product and are theyto be manual or automatic?

Quote from chromedog
and 40k was like McDonalds - you could get it anywhere - it wouldn't necessarily satisfy, but it was probably better than nothing.

You might want to post this to the KS and not here.

If it is a PVC type material, likely it is high pressure steel molds.

They said it was a very hard rubberized material, sort of like a rubber mallet.
That is what sold me on it. The ability to throw all my pieces in backpack and take it to a club is wonderful. I love my hirst art cast stuff and will continue to make stuff, but every time I try to take that stuff anywhere it tends to break on me. Don't have to worry about kids, angry players, soda spills ect ect.

Maelstrom808- Wow you guys are intense!

Do you have any thoughts about the "unusable half squares" taken up by the walls?

100k Stretch Achieved!

150k is free corner pieces, 200k is more walls and "on deck" whatever that is.

More pieces are nice and all,but I was hoping for some stuff to accessorize with.

Heh, that was a particularly special dungeon, but yeah. We are lucky in that our host has a simply amazing collection of resources available for play.

We just treat them as full squares. It may mean giving a mini the "wobbly model syndrome" treatment, but it usually works out. It is a little frustrating that it's not all flush with the walls, but it's manageable for sure.

It's a bit dear, but if I still played DnD I'd be all over this. Would enhance the gaming so much.

Looks at flag next to Swara's name...?!?

My gaming group just decided to get together and get a 2x set - good times!

150k Stretch goal happened last night. The new 250k goal is an extra door per set, meaning for each set you get you get an extra:
1 Door
3 2x2 Floors
8 Straight walls
2 Corner walls

I'm thinking we'll see more floors for the next goal so you'll get an extra set for every ~3 sets you get.

Looks like we are in at the $500 level for our group. Should little more than double our current collection. Looks like I'll have a ton of drybrushing to do.

Day 2 and they hit 200k!
More bonuses with the stretch goals, looking like we'll trend past a million at this rate!

And I know there isn't a whole lot of data yet.. but I like graphs.
