Are there any rules for fielding Chaos Warhounds (the demon dogs, not the titans) in 40K? I could swear that there used to be rules for it, but I don't recall seeing any in the 'dex. If there aren't any official rules for them, would it be reasonable to use them as Fenrisian Wolf proxies?

Khornate Flesh Hounds are about as close as you'll get, though the warhound models are a bit weedy for the now 2W flesh hounds.

Nope, no non-Khornate hounds - and honestly, I don't remember there being any beyond 1st ed and the Realm of Chaos books
Likely you might be thinking of Flesh Hounds in particular.

As for Fenrisian Wolf proxies, this should work fine but they're too small to be reasonable swaps for Thunderwolves in particular, trying to mount Marines on them looks a bit silly without extensive work.

Yeah, same base, about the same size, same look: chaotic and hounds. They're fine for games, even tournaments

And here's the kicker:

5 flesh hounds: $50
10 Chaos Warhounds: $25

Go for it man, everyone does it

Excellent, I'm planning on it. How about this then, using a Vampire Counts Dire Wolf in the same capacity, only with a Nurgle affiliation instead of Khorne?

3.5 edition Chaos Space Marines could take them at least as wargear for characters.

Also to the question at hand, at the moment there are no "Chaos Hounds", the closest would be indeed Daemon Khorne hounds. They work well as Fenrisian Wolves too. They look like they will get cold though.

They could also work as a Combat Familiar for CSM.

As above, in the second CSM codex which was released in 3rd edition (edited by Pete Haines) characters could take chaos hounds the way Space Wolf characters can take Fenrisian Wolves now. The current codex has no such rules.

I'm using my old metal chaos hounds as allied Flesh Hounds now.
