Why does Kim-Jong-Un always have a look of amazed bewilderment on his face? It's like every photo they take is a shot of him seeing something new for the first time. His expressions are too legit to be set up. Is he really this sheltered?

The two are heavily intertwined. The hacker group grew out of the, now defunct, /i/nvasion board. Its "footsoldiers" so to speak, the people who give over their computers willingly to botnets to help with DDoS, or who physically show up or just harass people in general are the 4chan's Anonymous.

Here's what they have done wrong this time. North Korea may well see this as an attack "by the west".

First of all the North Korean government are not all that good at understanding the idea that the actions of a country's citizens is separate from the actions of its government. They don't really "get" that not everyone lives in a world controlled by the state.

Second, even if they do see this they are paranoid enough to believe that it is just a cover for government hacking.

They are like a bunch of kids poking a hornets nest and the claiming "but dad, i had to poke it. One of the stung me" when there little brother gets stung to death. The situation in Korea is very precarious at the moment and people being dicks like this is not helping. All this dose is inflame the situation. It dose nothing posative at all.

This kind of sums up my general feelings on Anom. They're not all bad people and sometimes they do good things. I'm not gonna complain about members of Anonymous making a coordinated assault on child porn sites. Go for it . But sometimes members identifying with the group are just douches, like when they try to hack government facilities, FaceBook, or steal credit card numbers, or when they cyber-attack companies opposed to Pirate Bay and harass prosecutors in the Megaupload case. Others mean well but I'm not really sure they're helping. I really don't think cyber-attacks against Israel are going to help the Palestinians, and attacking North Korea does hold the potential to make the situation more dangerous.

Oh, I know, and I am sure the US is hacking NK systems, as are many other countrys, but they are sensible enough to do it like all spying. They will be doing the cyber equivalent of dead drops and double agents.

Anonymous are dressing up in a clown suit and dancing around shouting "I haz all your PC's. I R L33t!".

One of the main ways to protect yourself from retaliation from spying is to ensure that if you ever do get caught it is very difficult to prove they were doing anything wrong.

Some of their recent crimes and hacks are against bad people, true.

A lot of their early attacks were against credit card companies and other people they felt were contributing to Big Brother/Imperialism/Whatever(can't be bothered with looking up their complaints at the moment).

They haven't just hit bad people. Some of their attacks have cost innocent people a lot of money, frustration, and time.

They want all internet to be free, no restriction on anything (including kiddie porn, depending on who's telling it), all music to be free, and so on.

I get it, but when they start shutting down record studios websites because they want free music and start stealing people's credit card information because they don't want to work, I have a problem with them. They've cross the line from "Freedom Fighters" to dickholes cyber terrorists. At least they've been focusing on people I don't care about, as of late.

I have yet to hear about Anon doing anything like that, there are different factions within Anon. So it might be that pacticular group so hating the entirety of Anon is quite unwise as some of them have actually done a lot of good things, if they really wanted to mess with us and steal our credit cards, god help us all.

The PS network attack was actually be someone outside of anon that claimed to be anon. They usually target people that hinder the freedom of speech.

Good on them for doing this, the only problem I see is the following, none of the regular people know what an internet even is. Noble intentions but they will get ignored.

You're grossly misunderestimating the NK's understanding of the internet. These aren't some country bumpkins who are just being introduced to the internet. Considering one of their greatest allies is China (who has openly hacked western news agencies), I think they are fully aware that Anon is attacking them.

Yeah, they know how to access metadata on .jpegs and exploit bad programming. Gods of the Internet, truly.

No, I'm not. I'm not saying they don't understand the internet, I'm saying they are deeply paranoid. I'm not saying they may think it is they US govenment rather than anon, but that they may think that anon IS the US govenment, or being used as a US govenment cover.

China say that the hacking of western news agencies was not them but independant hackers working within the country. Why should NK think any different to the US?

Why does Kim-Jong-Un always have a look of amazed bewilderment on his face? It's like every photo they take is a shot of him seeing something new for the first time. His expressions are too legit to be set up. Is he really this sheltered?

The two are heavily intertwined. The hacker group grew out of the, now defunct, /i/nvasion board. Its "footsoldiers" so to speak, the people who give over their computers willingly to botnets to help with DDoS, or who physically show up or just harass people in general are the 4chan's Anonymous.

If by "willingly" you mean download viruses they think is horse porn then yeah, they do it willingly. Those "footsoldiers" are really 10-15 year olds who still buy into the whole "/b/=anonymous" of the old days and log onto the board to be cool and post pictures of gore and kiddie porn to show how cool they are.. The new /b/ is a festering pit of children telling dick jokes and porn to look cool, as opposed to the old /b/, which was a festering pit of filth and villainy that occasionally got something funny done.

And as others have pointed out, one of the big "strengths" of Anonymous is that they're, well, anonymous. Many of the actions Anonymous has carried out in the past have been carried out by different groups, and there were a lot of rumors of infighting among the guys who were actually doing the hacking. Even where the governments of the world boast that they've caught Anonymous, they really haven't accomplished anything. It's like fighting Al'Queda, you can can kill/capture a hundred, and a 1,000 more will take their place. There's no way to prove that guy was an Anon. For all you know, he was a random fallguy, some random schmuck who was stupid enough to click that one link posted in the gore thread and had information planted on his computer. And even if he's a real hacker, so what? Anonymous has plenty more socially awkward teenagers to use for their purposes. Losing a few that were stupid enough to get caught is no skin off their bones.

And I highly doubt North Korea cares. They may mention it, and use it as an excuse to their people to say "Look, the US government is attempting to spread lies and propaganda, see how evil they are!" But I'm pretty sure North Korea's higher ups are smart enough to realize that if the US government wanted to hack their computers, they'd be a lot more subtle.

Actually during a few of the more recent raids the Hackergroups who were directing them would give out downloadable botnet tools. People downloaded them willingly, heck people have even been prosecuted under US law for downloading that software.

As for the argument about whether or not /b/ is any good anymore, I would leave that discussion to a different forum, but the consensus seems to be that it was always terrible and used to be better back in (several years before contemporary date). The idea isn't anything new.

And there is your two problems with them. First they are little more than terrorists. Some people use propped protests (see the protests outside parlement in the UK by anon) which is fine. Others use it DDOSing, cracking, and other cyber crimes to attacks people they deem to have broken what anon consider to be the law. They are nothing more than cyber terrorists and like most terrorists they are at odds with most of the population. They justify it with tortuous logic like "well, people don't know what's good for them" and the like.

Second they have no understanding of the effect of what they are doing. You say the NK govenment don't care? You don't understand anything about the basic psychology of dictatorships. Ego and face is everything. Something like this could be seen as an attempt to publicly humiliate the govenment, which it was. What other reason could there be? Dictators do not take well to public humiliation. It's part of the need for absolute control that drives them to hold on to power. Just look at celebrations in NK. People will keep clapping anything to do with the Kim familily for hours because no one wants to be the first to stop. They care about every detail of how they are seen. Why claim to be so good at golf, control the wether and that you invented the "double bread and meat" or hamburger if you don't care about image. This attacks the image of NK and of Kim Jong Un.
