It looks like its not as crazy as most pricing but some of the stuff still seems odd
Codex : Tau Empire 49.5 US 83 AUS
XV88 Broadside Battlesuit 50 US 74 AUS
I guess shipping costs on the codex must be higher?

Anyone able to hit the Australia flag on the GW website can confirm the prices.
You can't lower the Codex price in Australia without alarming everyone about the price disparity.
Concerning the other prices: It is more global prices reaching Australian level than the other way round

All those prices are correct, note that the only thing that wasn't released at a more reasonable price was the fireblade and darkstrider as they are still at the current price point for the single sprue plastic characters and single finecast characters respectively

$80. Dark Angels & Chaos have been $50 US, so I presume Tau will be the same. (as it's still Friday in the US as this is written, itunes America still has it as a preorder so I imagine it will be the same)
Obviously the data has further to travel hence the extra markup.
OrlandotheTechnicoloured wrote:The codex is a fixed size/weight item

The old soft cover prices here were $55 before the shift to hard cover, I think they were $30 US. I wouldn't think the weight on a codex is that much more than the old soft cover ones. Even allowing for the total extra weight of a new codex shipment over an old one, I'd say the larger price is because they can charge it here.
I could be wrong, but I think our mini's come packed from the factory. It would probably cost more in time and wages to have to compile them here, before shipping them to customers from the warehouse in Sydney.

Yes. In fairness, new Broadside is bigger than the old one, and comes with more options. But it's still pricey.

GW lowered all their prices in Canada about 4 or 5 years ago when they realised everyone was ordering from the US. They were about 50% higher than US prices at the time (despite the CDN $ being close to parity with the US $). After the price change they were about 20% higher than US MSRP.

Kroothawk has it nailed in one. They can't push the prices up here in Australia, they've already got 1001 nails already in the coffin on this side of the hemisphere.
Must say though, despite the rubbish prices/corporate dickishness the release schedule is nice and the rules (going by the Tau stuff i'm reading now) look to be semi decent without much jumping out and screaming over powered.
So whilst i'd never buy anything new from GW again, they game appears to be becoming playable again with a level of nailbiting excitement.

You guys do know in the bottom right corner of the GW site you can change country and see what prices are in different countries? You don't need an Australian to confirm, you can just check the site

Pricing is really confusing for the Tau releases I find. Some products are actually more expensive in Canada than Australia. For example, the Riptide is $100, the flyer and majority of the heroes are all more as well. This makes little sense seeing as the CAD has been pretty much on par or even higher than USD as of late. Yay for us being the new Australia!

This I don't get. They should offer a digital version if you purchase the hardback version,. I know this goes against their money-raking philosophy, but why should I buy a hardback book when I can have all of the codices on my tablet to take to tournaments with me? Conversely, why should I purchase the digital version when I want to have a nice, glossy hardback book?

I find it hilarious that they took all the complaints from Australia and thought, "Ok, they want more comparable pricing, lets raise it in the countries they complain about". Actually, no, it makes me very sad.

Obama has been talking about raising the US minimum wage, this is GW being responsive and getting out in front of that possibility! Didn't you want GW to be more responsive to changes in the marketplace?
Levity aside, at least Australia isn't the only ones being screwed anymore?

The codex won't be a different price, because GW don't do that. Kits have a more mutable price because, well, they have different components. The Broadside hitting the $74au mark was surprising - considering the size, I expected it to hit the $83au bracket, where the Carnifex, a kit of similar size with a large amount of options, sits.
Going through the rest:
Riptide Battlesuit 85 US 90 AUS Dreadknight sized kit in the Dreadknight price bracket. Expected price.
XV8 Crisis Battlesuit Team 65 US 80 AU 3 large models in a box - normal price for this is $91 (Thunderwolves, Bloodcrushers, etc). Surprisingly low.
Sun Shark Bomber 65 US 76 AUS Regular non-heavy flyer price. Expected.
Hammerhead Gunship 60 US 85 AUS Slightly more expensive than the Predator. Expected.
Pathfinder Team 35 US 48 AUS Standard non-Space Marine infantry squad price. Expected.
Cadre Fireblade 20 US 22 AUS Standard single frame clampack plastic character price. Expected.
Commander Farsight 50 US 54 AUS Standard mid sized Finecast character price. Expected.
XV8 Battlesuit Commander 41 US 45 AUS Standard mid sized Finecast non-Special character price. Expected.
Darkstrider 19.25 US 28 AUS Standard finecast small model price. Expected.
Longstrike 16 US 26 AUS Only comparitive model is Pask - nearly double the cost, normal for a Finecast price difference. Expected.
Farsight Enclave Shoulder Pads 13.25 US 14 AUS Cheap for finecast conversion packs. Surprisingly low.
So yeah, a couple of things are cheaper than expected, a price bracket down generally. Most are priced like normal for us. It seems the stuff they think will have problems selling - the triple pack Crisis suits and new Broadside, due to exisiting players having them already, were priced lower than expected, probably to get some sales. Everything else was put at normal pricing for us.
I think the main reason it seems it's better is the US copped the full price hike last year, while we only got some of it, things like small Finecast squad boxes (eg aspect warriors). The majority of the price hike didn't hit Australia, so prices are looking closer than usual.
